Stargazing. Every rapture needs a Comet, and we finally have ours. ATLAS. Brightening every night, this could outshine even Venus in a month.

I had planned a Dubai trip from 26th March for 10 days. And even my hotel bookings were non refundable when I booked from booking.com. The hotel also was not willing to budge and give me a refund. But yesterday we logged on to booking.com and immediately there was a message pooping up saying. "Click to get a full refund of your booking due to the Corona virus" Goes without saying I clicked and immediately got the refund done.

As far as the Emirates tickets go, I got a voucher for the entire amount that i can use over the next year.

So I dont think it should be an issue for you to get refunds

Re: Safe recreational activities during the coronavirus pandemic

I just ordered an Xbox One X for me and the family. We were running out of ideas and finally took the plunge. This was not even on my shopping list or shopping horizon since I am an outdoorsy person! :/

Re: Safe recreational activities during the coronavirus pandemic

We've finally got to 50% staff manning the work station. Work from home for one week for me.

WFH Day-1:

Safe recreational activities during the coronavirus pandemic-a020f8ee3e3b416e926ed8f3d8bf898e.jpg
  • Skipped 1000, light exercise
  • Sanitized my fitness band, installed a protective glass and a new strap
  • Fixed an air lock in the hot water supply
  • Watched Jumanji
  • Attended a volunteers' meeting to spread awareness in the township starting Monday

Back in Jaipur, here's what my dad is up to.

Re: Safe recreational activities during the coronavirus pandemic

For me, it has been quite idle, as all my cousins have also confined themselves to their homes. Gave my car for a 'wash and touch-up' at Star Cars Customs [very near to the Ring Road, on the service lane]. Since then watching the 'Don' Donald in action, many videos in loop mode. Just cant get enough of the smooth action...just pure poetry in motion.

I have to ask this however stupid it may sound. But can you tell me how you fixed it?

I tried fixing it last weekend and now it's even worse with water coming out of all the 7 options. lol.

Please send close up photos.

Re: Safe recreational activities during the coronavirus pandemic

Being the youngest member of my apartment administrative committee, I very rarely attend meetings or take part in the intricate workings as they're often very bureaucratic and a sheer waste of time as no action is passed (much like our beloved parliament). However, I'm proud to have been fully part of their garden development and upkeep committee and instrumental in increasing the tree count by 14 and also planning the garden layout and laying the sod (more than 5,000 sqft). I'm proud of this and to this day seeing them flourish is like watching your own grow up.

Yesterday I had another idea which I'm equally proud of, trying to create awareness and removing the great stigma around this virus. You see, most apartments are quite small and there is no way we can have helpless people being shut-in, I couldn't take it myself today. The existing committee has been taken over by soul-less people who want to model it after a dystopian police state.

I myself generated all the printouts from my home printer titled "This is our home, let us make it one outside too", with clear instructions on wearing any light mask outside, preferably glasses too if one wears it, not blatantly coughing or sneezing near anybody, maintaining 2 meter distance and coming out in segments of 1 hour each split across 4 hours, i.e 4 pm through 8 pm with a break of 2 hours and the final walk reserved only for under 40 age group at 10. Yes we have majority elderly in the complex. Mind you all the walks mentioned above are strictly within the complex, people coming from office must wash their hands at home and then come back to the common amenities.

Also clear instructions are given not to touch aluminium bars, poles etc with also a facility of clean washing area with liquid soap (daily 1 bottle to be kept) in case any unwanted contact is made, also lift buttons should be sterilized each day. Also strict instructions are to give only thumbs up, namashkarams, or merely oral salutations, by doing this we're also taking highest precautions for ourselves and others in the complex, this place is home to me and I don't want that to ever change, got it approved by the committee (only due to one supportive person within the committee who is also young and dynamic).

That brings me to the topic at hand, we have gotten this far as a society only because of mutual cooperation and kindness, whatever society is corrupt or harsh today is devoid of those 2 aspects. From techniques of water harvesting, garbage segregation, reducing power consumption etc, we've not only religiously followed them all but I was instrumental in R&D and trials before going full in.

The reason I felt the need to share this today, is to inspire people that despite tough times ahead, a little humanity, helping mentality and religious sterilization regime will help us get through this. I've also ensured to mention that in these highly critical times, help of any kind be given (notified all the 3 doctor residents on the same too).

Life for the next 2 months will no longer be about simplistic yet time wasting activities, I'm stepping up to make a more meaningful life in the absence/shutting down of Governmental activities and shutting down of transport in general. Anyone willing to join can write about their contributions as well.

Re: Safe recreational activities during the coronavirus pandemic

I am always fond of cooking and gardening, this forced lockdown has given me the chance to try out new things on both the fronts. Plus, some old hobbies got revived like reading good books which were ordered but never read because of lack of time! All in all, some real productive things which used to be our support system before the age of social media got revived in case of me and I couldn’t be more happier for that. One disappointment is that some of my trips next month will be delayed but that’s alright as long as this pandemic ends without leaving any major damages. Sharing a picture of a dish made yesterday by your’s truly

That’s crispy fried chicken tossed in red sauce

So I have marked up the picture with details of work done on each numbered part.
  1. Carefully removed the spring from the plunger, corrosion had seized them together. Filed down the plunger a bit, greased both parts and put them back.
  2. Cleaned hardened rust from this rubber washer and put some grease on it to prevent it from cracking
  3. Removed it, greased it and flipped it. This part is the main culprit. It wears out and as a result the seal between the two black rings is broken. Flipping it puts the fresh side at work.
  4. Part is shot! This gives the click-in action which I can do without. In my case the spring corroded and has collapsed.
Apart from this, a smear of grease between the two black rings to make it slide easily and then a good tightening of the main screw will help the rubber ring seal properly. This is the last time, a repair will work, the parts are of very poor quality.

WFH Day-3:
  • Volunteered to go about in our township. Basically help get feedback and concerns of residents in view of partial lockdown enforced here.
  • Went and self declared the travel to Khajuraho done last weekend.
  • Gave the missus some rest and made breakfast
  • Watched half of Ford vs Ferrari
  • Worked on the khajuraho travelogue

Meanwhile, Mom’s got a new domestic helper at home. So he’s going a rigorous training session.
