Usually when I'm driving calmly, I listen to Hybrid- Soundsystem and Lifehouse

but when things start heating up and when I see no car on the road except mine, my choice of song is NFSIII's intro song!

though its short but damn it gets the adrenaline pumping!

check it out -

driving in the city, anything will do, but on long drives i avoid slow and melodious songs - these put me to sleep and we don't want that happening, now do we?

some of my favourites:

Dire Straits - Walk of Live/ Sultan's of Swing/ Tunnel of Love/ Heavy Fuel/ Romeo and Juliet
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69/ On a day like today/ Best of me
50cent - In da Club
Deep Purple - Highway star/ Smoke on the water
Robbie Williams - Feel/ Hot Fudge/ Better Man
Eagles - Hotel California
Police - De do do do/ King of Pain/ Spirits in the Material World
Manowar - Warriors of the world united

last, but never the least

Enigma - Sadeness

My current favourite is:

"Jaoon tore charan kamal par vari" from the film Sur Sangam; sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Pt. Rajan Mishra. Last fortnight I discovered this song, tucked away on my USB stick, during my drive to Udupi from Bangalore. Since then I have been listening to this song again and again while driving.

Listening to music keeps me calm when I'm stuck in traffic, which is most of the time in a city like ours. Usually music by classical maestros like Dvorak, Debussy and Tchaikovsky are the ones that I find most peaceful. And let me just say that having a 6 CD changer is the most handy thing ever, since I can just put my favourites in without scrounging for changes while I'm on the road.

But whenever I'm driving on a long stretch of relatively empty road - a pleasure I allow myself at least once in a month - I like the smooth tones of jazz by artistes like Miles Davis, John Coltrane The Seatbelts, Wudasse Ethio etc.

For me, it differs a bit by the terrain that I am driving in.

If I am in the hills: Dillagi by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
If its raining: Boondon se baatein, by Asha Bhosle for movie Takshak
If its a straight smooth drive: Peppy Kishore numbers sung for Amitabh

In Bangalore traffic: calming Mantra chants to help keep cool!
