Although my driving music playlist has plenty of devotional songs, I only have one song on Sai ram. After 6 hours of driving, that song came up. Then something incredible happens... Watch in full screen if it is not clear. Pause when the emoticon appears.

Behold the power of music...

Re: The Music Thread

Off lately playing Your Wilderness on loop by the Pineapple Thief.
Do check it out and also Versions of the Truth with Gavin Harrison on the drums.
Truly amazing.

Re: The Music Thread

These new generation of classical singers make me feel that the Indian classical music will not only survive, but thrive.

Re: The Music Thread

AbbyV is such a talent, effortless and elegant. I am awestruck on the ease with which he switches between Raagas and also has a mesmerizing voice.

The video was posted earlier though.

Here is a recent favourite of mine. She doesn't usually sing pure classicals, but when she does, she does full justice. Very joyful singing.

Re: The Music Thread

I just happened to chance upon a band called Thievery Corporation:

Difficult to genre classify them, but they bring together elements of world music, new age, club, "groovy", chillout etc.
Thank goodness for real musicians performing instead of programmed computers (unusual for this kind of music)

Re: The Music Thread

Was watching Modern Love Mumbai the other day. Must say, it's got some good musical numbers. Hooked to Mausam Hai Pyaar (max relate for me, at the moment) and Shuru Se Shuru. Been listening to them on loop since yesterday.

Re: The Music Thread

He was controversial and a lot of people were put off by the content. But boy was he a gifted lyricist, singer and songwriter. Gone way too soon. India's Tupac Shakur moment.

Rest In Peace Sidhu Moose Wala. Here's one of my favourites where he goes deep.

Re: The Music Thread

Hello everyone. I would like to request fellow musically inclined members to help me find a high quality version of this chant.

Its the Buddhist chant "Om Mani Padme Hum" by Ani Choying Drolma. Even Shazam has failed me this time.

Re: The Music Thread

Sharing this high-voltage performance of the devotional song on this auspicious day of Varamahalakshmi festival.

If Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's rendition of the song is sublime, his disciples have taken it to another level.

Also notice how the lady in Tanpura is enjoying the performance, unlike the tanpura players who wear the most boring look on stage

Re: The Music Thread

Just sharing a light-hearted but superbly done parody of MJ's classic "Beat it" by Weird Al Yankovic, which by the way reached #1 in Australia's charts while MJ's original only reached #3

I remember his album Running with Scissors that I bought in 1999, when I saw the first song was about the latest Star Wars movie. As a Star Wars fan, I was amazed that he described the entire story of the movie in the song as Obi Wan Kenobi, from beginning to the end. That is some crazy song writing skill...

The other song about Pentiums really hits the nerve with techies... Here is a version with lyrics, so that no details is missed.

Will watch. But seeing as I've never watched a Star Wars flick, it may fly over my head. But his musical genius should still make for good listening.

And what's more - please look out for a biopic on his life and early career, his rise to fame, Madonna's bad influence on him etc. There's a trailer doing the rounds online....and was it Elijah Wood portraying him? Check it out!
