Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Meanwhile, Kerala is witnessing a spike in numbers after the Onam festival. But small numbers still considering no one really bothers to get themselves tested anymore and treat it symptomatically.

Masks have also started disappearing. Me? I am paranoid and wear masks although I have resorted to cotton masks most of the time and change to an n95 in crowded places only.

Yup, the number of fever cases have really spiked after the Onam festivities.

So after 3 vaccine doses, 2 covid infections (1 which resulted in hospitalization), me and my wife have tested covid positive for the third time! Symptoms are very mild compared to the first two times. I have fever and cough, while my wife has fever, cough and diarrhoea. Hopefully we'll be back up and running by the end of the week.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

I read there's now a lot of H1N1 flu about. IS it like an "ordinary" flu, or worse?

The flu jab is one of those many things I didn't get around to.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Has Covid really ended? I don't see anyone wearing masks! And people stare when I do.

China is still going full blast against it. Do they know something the rest of the world doesn't?

It's the reverse I think- the rest of the world has realized that it is futile to try and solve a medical/public-health issue with law-enforcement tactics. China apparently hasn't!

Let me be honest. For me, Covid has ended. I have not worn a mask in the last 2-3 months, I guess. I go to my air-conditioned office by air-conditioned shuttle, have attended crowded weddings and indoor events (>500 people), have travelled on AC trains/buses/taxis; in short, other than the 2-day-per-week WFO and once a year vaccine, it is back to pre-Covid life.

That's how dictatorships work. Once a 'strong' dictator takes a decision can't admit to mistakes and has to double-down on the policy come what may. There is also the upcoming Communist party congress coming up where Xi Jinping is expected to be coronated again as the supreme leader. One more reason why he can't show even the slightest weakness.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

My paranoid brain can't help but wonder if it's really "covid-19"

Whatever happened to herd immunity and as we start getting exposed the intensity will come down etc etc?

Relax !

Chinese population has virtually zero herd immunity because of the "Zero Covid" policy. Now that restrictions have been lifted (perhaps due to widespread protests), there is bound to be increase in infection rate (and hence fatalities).

There is NO new virus. Infact, there is no evidence of a NEW variant. Remember, Omicron and its sub-variant are already very *transmissible* but relatively Milder compared to Delta (That does NOT mean that it can't kill). Its highly unlikely a new variant will emerge which is more lethal and at the same time more transmissible than Omicron.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Dear all -

My wife and I are due for our COVAXIN second shot. Does anyone know where to get this in Chennai? So far I have tried Apollo Hospital(where I took my first dose) and Madras Medical Mission. Apollo said there are no vaccines available in Chennai since last 25 days in any of its branches. MMM said a similar story.

Would be helpful if there are any confirmed COVAXIN centers in Chennai or Tamil nadu.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Try the new GH (Omandurar complex) as well as King Institute. Either of them are sure to have it.

Is the Cowin app not still functioning and useful? Or... did you start there before coming here!

Thank you Thad.

Cowin app does not show Covaxin at all. In fact i get reminders that am due but am unable to find any centers for covaxin in Cowin in TN and AP.

I tried primary urban heath centers. I was told there is no stock.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Covid seems to be regarded as a thing of the past. I recognise the feeling: I have it too!

If one vaccine is completely unavailable, we should, at least, be allowed to take a different one.

Unless/until it flares up again, I'm afraid that not much thought is going to be given to it. There should be something more scientific than keeping our fingers crossed, but that may be the best we've got
