I found the entire song online. It's turned out to be sung by an urban youngster; since I heard it via loudspeakers in a village and because it sounds rustic, I had thought that this coronavirus song was the work of a frustrated poor guy...

China can cry foul all it wants when people blame them. But the Tamil folk are talking plainly and point blank.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Can anyone experienced with company procedures tell me if car showrooms/service centers are registered under the shops and establishments act? If so, they'll be able to open shop from 25th with necessary safety precautions and with a halved workforce.

Meanwhile in Bangalore, the police have evidently been fighting amongst themselves for two weeks to help liquor 'transporters' - https://www.deccanherald.com/city/be...rs-829588.html

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

You are supposed to be out for valid reason, plus, you can not roam around in a vehicle, you have to walk to get your stuff in a stipulated time or order your stuff through app and get them home delivered. This applies for people who are not into essential services.

People who are into essential services [doctors / police / grocers / bankers] etc are exempted.

Stay safe everyone.

Maybe this is a similar way of the natural order? If you are dumb enough to believe that drinking a disinfectant is safe enough (just because some idiot at the top said it was), maybe you are the segment for which such statements/views exist. And will be made again in the near future!

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

A new dimension seems to be getting added to the covid issues. More puzzles to solve.

Off late I have developed an aversion to washington post - they seem to unnecessarily use way too many words! What can be stated in three sentences gets stretched to about thirty here - consistently!

Young and middle-aged people, barely sick with covid-19, are dying of strokes

"Doctors sound alarm about patients in their 30s and 40s left debilitated or dead. Some didn’t even know they were infected."

Quote:
Reports of strokes in the young and middle-aged — not just at Mount Sinai, but also in many other hospitals in communities hit hard by the novel coronavirus — are the latest twist in our evolving understanding of the disease it causes. The numbers of those affected are small but nonetheless remarkable because they challenge how doctors understand the virus. Even as it has infected nearly 2.8 million people worldwide and killed about 195,000 as of Friday, its biological mechanisms continue to elude top scientific minds. Once thought to be a pathogen that primarily attacks the lungs, it has turned out to be a much more formidable foe — impacting nearly every major organ system in the body.
...

Quote:
analyses suggest coronavirus patients are mostly experiencing the deadliest type of stroke. Known as large vessel occlusions, or LVOs, they can obliterate large parts of the brain responsible for movement, speech and decision-making in one blow because they are in the main blood-supplying arteries.
...

Quote:
one question is whether the clotting is because of a direct attack on the blood vessels, or a “friendly-fire problem” caused by the patient’s immune response.

“In your body’s attempt to fight off the virus, does the immune response end up hurting your brain?”

Brain clots usually appear in the arteries, which carry blood away from the heart. But in covid-19 patients, he is also seeing them in the veins, which carry blood in the opposite direction and are trickier to treat. Some patients are also developing more than one large clot in their heads, which is highly unusual.

This is probably the most promising development on Covid for India. Here are a couple of interesting links about the trial. Sourced from the official website of the vaccine trial.

Details about the vaccine
https://covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/about

Details about the trial
https://covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/ph...rial-explained

Insightful and factual interview with the scientist
https://covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/in...-sarah-gilbert

To summarize what Sarah Gilbert and Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute are saying.
  • The prospects are very good according to Gilbert.
  • Adar puts the probability at 60% if not more.
  • Serum is manufacturing before trials complete to save time. Plan to hit 2 million doses by the end of May and 30-40 million doses by the end of September.
  • Adar is hoping to start India trials very soon. Has got tremendous support from the authorities.
  • Serum is able to set up manufacturing quickly as they have setups for the Chimp Adenovirus from which the ChAdOx1 nCov 19 vaccine is based.
  • Serum is injecting 500-600 crores and repurposing a Pune facility for this. Currently self funded.

This potentially means that we might have a vaccine before the year is out which tremendously accelerates things. Fingers crossed

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

I just happened to take note of this interesting finding and wrote it on a rough paper to share it here. Information sourced from world o meter website. Lists out the country wise total number of tests performed against total positive cases caught. Too early to comment anything but looks like there is a predilection towards colder countries.

Putting in that much money based on 60% probability - that's a big risk to take. But it's great that someone has the cajones to take such a risk. If Adar Poonawala manages to pull this off, it will play a big part in reviving India's economy.

BTW, isn't Adar Poonawala also a bhpian?
