re: The Coronavirus Thread

A Madhya Pradesh man returned from the Gulf and did the rituals for his mother's funeral, in which he fed 1500 people in her memory. Too bad that the guy had Covid.

And we breach the 3000 mark. Last few days have seen a steep climb. 500+ on 1st April, 600+ on 2nd April & 500+ already today (can easily touch 700 today). Extension of lockdown seems highly probable if the curve isn't flattened next week.

1500 people in a funeral feast? Even weddings on our part of the country don't have more than a 1000 guests. And what, he works as a waiter. Some things don't add up. Media sensationalism?

re: The Coronavirus Thread

Couple of days ago, there was news about doctors provided with raincoats, sunglasses and masks instead of PPE for treating coronavirus patients. How does this help anyone to protect themselves?

The Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai opens its doors to medical fraternity engaged in treatment of Covid-19 patients, reports TOI.

IHCL has offered four more properties owned by it to accommodate doctors and nurses; in addition to providing packed meals to hospitals.

True effect of the lockdown is expected to reflect only between 10-14th February. Hopefully we will do more and more testing to make this lockdown a success.

Antibody testing has started as well. Rapid tests will simplify the testing and also allow us to test many more. Attaching the algorithm I received from my senior.

Potential coronavirus vaccine 'generates enough antibodies to fight off virus'

Quote:
A potential coronavirus vaccine developed by US scientists has been found to produce antibodies capable of fighting off Covid-19 in the first peer-reviewed study of its kind.
The vaccine, which was tested on mice by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, generated the antibodies in quantities thought to be enough to “neutralise” the virus within two weeks of injection.
The study’s authors are now set to apply to the US Food and Drug Administration for investigational new drug approval ahead of phase one human clinical trials planned to start in the next few months.
Scientists across the globe are racing to develop a vaccine to protect against coronavirus, which has infected more than a million people worldwide and claimed 50,000 lives.
The first human trial of a vaccine began at a lab in Seattle last month after a team of US researchers skipped animal testing, which is used to establish effectiveness and safety.
Dozens of other teams around the world have potential vaccines in development.
But the Pittsburgh research is the first study on a Covid-19 vaccine candidate to be published after review from fellow scientists at outside institutions.

The finalized testing algorithm for antibody tests is now available on ICMR website. It is slightly modified from the previous document. Kindly ignore my previous uploads few posts above.

re: The Coronavirus Thread

Story of a 34-year old who beat the virus:

Quote:
Abhishek Kumar, 34, remembers March 27 as the day he felt a fear he had never known before. It was his seventh day in Kasturba Hospital’s Covid-19 ward and he had begun to experience severe difficulty in breathing. Around him were at least two dozen other men and women – many of them wheezing and gasping for breath just as hard. Could this end like the gloomy news items he had been reading from all around the country and the world for the past week, he thought. It didn’t. Abhishek, a Peru-based marketing executive with a pharmaceuticals major, is now back in his Dombivali house with his mother and wife, having defeated the virus. And as he looks back, he believes two factors helped him get through – the absolutely “peerless and fearless” doctors and nurses of Kasturba, and a piece of news he received later that day: his mother, who was admitted to Kasturba soon after he tested positive, had tested negative. He says he knew then that he will have to pull through.

Call me biased, but I'm of the opinion that women are best suited when it comes to protecting people under their care!

Here in Singapore we received free reusable masks for the family - initiated by the government and the condo management setup convenient collection time for families in each block. So from next week, the recommendation is to step out only for essentials (groceries, food, clinics etc.) and exercises in nature parks with safe distance keeping.
