Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

Not so with me ,

I am buying auto mags since the first copy of Indian Auto Journal ( now Auto India ) came . Its not about money or fresh news . if you take good care, hard copies are for life , they become vintage as time goes by . Digital copy cannot match that .

I am trying to store info from bhp ( some selected posts ) , lets see what happens .

Books are books , computer can never give you a smell & Feel of 1900 something Ford T repair manual . ( I have it ,along with so many similar books )

No doubt that forums Like bhp have become THE BEST source of latest information & views but its a difference between a Karina & Madhubala , both have their rightful place .

There is another point , I still collect some old issues I missed of a pre BHP time .

Now I buy only two prime Auto mags rest is with BHP

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

To an extend this is true with me, yes, my expenses on auto magazines have reduced; whenever I see a copy of autocar or auto blid, I could not stop myself from buying it. But now when I get that temptation, I say to myself Team-Bhp, Team-Bhp..... 10 times, and the temptation goes away (50% successful till now )

A great website and a great pool of information and entertainment.

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

My addiction to Auto Car has reduced 100%. Previously, I used to buy every month. But for the last one year or so, I have not bought one 'coz TBHP is there. What ever information I need, it is here in our forum. Congrats everybody for making this forum such a wonderful place.

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

Totally agree.I used to regularly read various Auto mags; not any more.
There's a collective wealth of wisdom here which no mag can match.

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

Magazines are history, like telegraph. I bought them as I was fascinated with cars and bikes in my school days. Then I bought them to help me choose the right vehicle. But I always had to wait for these magazine people to bring out the car and bike reviews that I was interested in. Then came team-bhp. You want information?, just search on the forum or post a new thread and tons of info just pours in from all over the country. What more can I ask for.

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

I used to grab a copy of all major auto magazines since my college days and still cant resist buying one once in a while. (Now I buy What car? once in a while since it costs only Rs.50 while the others are mostly Rs.100 and sometimes Rs.150)

Reading one always reminds me of how good and unbiased Team-BHP is really!!

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

The main objective of all auto magazines is to praise each and every car they review. And the newest entrant is definitely the winner of any shootout.

Most of them have no idea about cars whatsoever. I have come across reviews where they state stuffs like
  • Vento's Handling is not good. (Autocar)
  • Beat's handling is good.
  • SX4 ride quality is good. (Autocar)
and the list goes on.

Buying most automag is not only a waste of money but also a waste of time.

Team-BHP beware, these auto magazine companies are going to sue you sooner or later. You are destroying their business.

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

I think TBhp made OD magazine poorer by stopping the subscription of a 7 yr continuous subscriber
I just love TBhp for being unbiased. The main reason for me switching over to TBHP was the one sided stand by all these auto mags that started irritating me, In fact I would at times pick up a auto magazine in a store that would have given 4.5/5 star to a bullock cart just because it had one of their advt sponsor car makers logo stuck on it

I agree completely. Each of these auto mags/TV auto shows end up contradicting each other when reviewing a car. One would say car X handles brilliantly, other would say car X handles poorly. Whom to believe in such a case?

I strongly suspect that auto mags are paid to write positive reviews and subtly hide the deficiencies. How many of the auto mag editors/reporters follow Team-bhp for scoops and news? I suspect there are many.

When you write them about issues you are facing with in your car, they may publish it for page space. But will never bother to reply about it.

Hence I have stopped reading these mags, won't waste a single paisa on them. T-bhp is more than sufficient for me.

Oh yes, this point is 100% correct !! Have you also noticed, that they never declare a clear winner at the end? It's always the plus points of all the competing cars and they leave the final decision to the viewer?

T-BHP is indeed saving 200-250/- per month on Auto Magazines, because I know the best reviews and stories are here

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

I bought this months Top Gear India magazine. I was buying an Auto Magazine after a long time. The main reason was that they had covered the new Swift. But sadly, it is not a review or test, but rather a first drive report on the new Swift, which doesn't add any value to the reader.

And worse still, they have rushed the report for getting the Sept issue on stands at the earliest. There are some glaring mistakes, like the VDi/ VXi have the integrated music system and alloys. Thoroughly disappointed!

Why can't they proof read before wasting precious paper?

Now, which magazine is a better read for the new Swift? The Sept ACI or OD mag?

I'll continue to subscribe to magazines, because this is one of the very few ways of spending points accumulated by credit card usage. It is also turning my 8 year old into a petrolhead.

Re: Team-BHP saving my money on Auto magazine

Very True.

Team-BHP is saving a lot of money on subscription of OVERDRIVE magazine. I used to subscribe this since late 2000 and I still retain each copy with me including those posters and calenders, booklets being given in the anniversary edition. It has now been 5 months that I have stopped subscribing to OVERDRIVE since I find to get my news on automobiles and any updates late by a month whereas logging onto to T-BHP I get my answers right away! Saved 125 bucks a month.

Love you Team-BHP!
