Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

I bought a 55 inch Mi TV 4K (Slim version) last year. Super happy with performance at much lesser price than the Big brands. I owned Samsung 40 inch LED TV in 2013 which got damaged after 4 years and started showing some screen fading. I also got a LG 49 Inch LED from USA in 2015 which did a brilliant job. Compared to both, and given the really busy lifestyle in cities these days, where you cannot watch TV for more than 2 Hrs in a day, I personally felt the Mi TV is a good compromise. Sure there will be compromises which is expected at the price, but it does 80% of the job at 50% price and this is good enough for me.

Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

This is really not done. Legality might be on their sites, but ethically, its just a massive misrepresentation of the TV’s capabilities.

While I understand the rationale that the panel is indeed 1080p, and would work fine with external sources, locking down the SW to 720p seems like a crappy move to me. I guess conveniently omitting any relevant tech specs on the manual also helps their cause.

In my parents house, we have a 43 inch Mi TV 1080p 2017 model and a 48 inch Samsung 4K Curved 2015 model. While its not a fair fight considering the prices, I’ve always been surprised at how different both look, even when playing 1080p or 720p content.

I personally just bought a LG 55 inch 4K TV (UM7300) over a Mi TV 55 inch, because the LG supported AirPlay. Looking at Mi’s business practices, I’d say it was a close shave.

My 1.5 years old Panasonic non-smart 40 inch LED TV running on firestick shows these stats on hotstar.

I was almost tempted into buying the Mi TV but thank god I didn't. Will stick to the tried and tested Japanese and Korean brands (just like my cars )

Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

I find this funny - since this is teambhp let me put in perspective of cars

You are saying that top speed in speedometer of car is listed as 240 kmph but in actual you are doing max at 150 kmph

it can be due various reasons -

a. Accelerator - are you pumping optimized enough - in tv context it would mean settings

b. Road - are the roads quality to take on 250 km - in tv context it would mean network cables, wifi signals etc.

c. Traffic - is the traffic allowing it, in tv it is the internet bandwidth in full throttle

d. Tyres - are tyres supporting the speed, in case of tv it would mean the supported ports e.g. RF, HDMI, USB

e. Gears - are you in the right gear for the speed - in tv context it would mean OS settings and tuning

f. Driver - are you trained enough to drive at 250 kmph - in tv context it would mean your technical knowhow to club all together the hardware and software

g. Engine Tune - is your engine tuned for that speed, in tv context check the app limitations etc.

h. Weight and Load - is your car bearing more load and passengers - in tv context it would mean how many apps or resources are free and available

So, its not that the specs provided are wrong you need to see other parameters too.
I too am using Mi TV happily and definitely Samsung and Sony provide a better experience but as others said it provides 80% capabilities at 50% price so no regrets.

hope this helps.

Its more like buying a Verna with only 3 proper tires with the 4th & 5th tires being a space saver.

This is not an issue of compromise but simple non delivery of what was promised. I did not agree to the '50% price' to play 720p video.

Engineers have visited, taken pics and videos of what I have shown here and taken note of the fact there is a problem. Further tests to be conducted by Mi engineers this week.

Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

This is a quick test to ascertain the TV's native resolution if you don't want to trust resolution checker apps or OTT apps reporting a lower resolution - Use a macro lens to shoot a closeup of the TV screen when it is on, and count the number of horizontal pixels in a centimeter (and extrapolate it to the width of the TV) to make sure that it is a 720p display indeed.

You can do it even for a mobile display with much higher DPI:

Did he get back to you with a resolution for your issue?

Hmm... To me, more like - my speedometer shows up to 220kmph, but the car won't go that fast because the car came with H rated tyres.

Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

To check true resolution of a smart TV:
Open YouTube app, play a true 4K UltraHD video and check best resolution it can display, the highest quality shown is the true resolution of your TV.
Here is a pic of my LG 4k TV:

To check true resolution of a non-smart TV:
Plug in a CPU or Laptop using HDMI port, go to display setting and check the highest resolution that can be displayed.

Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

As others have mentioned, there is a limitation to the graphics capability of inbuilt hardware that drives the screen. I don't think it is ethical, but technically the television does support full HD for external sources.

In my opinion, one should not purchase a smart TV. Use a TV as a display panel, buy the required gadgets to use the TV panel. For privacy reasons, it is better to have television microphone turned off. Also, you don't want usage statistics from television being shared with third party.

In your case, an Amazon Fire Stick would work better, faster and give you full HD glory without a heart burn.

Well, I have a 32 Inch Mi TV 4A Pro in my bedroom and it has 720p resolution. But I too connect a firestick to it and it shows the same resolution as you. Even though the TV is 720p, if watching Hotstar on Firestick it shows 1080p. I even confirmed with Amazon Prime Video on firestick and it too shows 1080p. I don't use the "Smart" part of Mi Tv so cannot confirm what it shows there but will check tonight and report back.

Btw, I too love MasterChef.

On the Mi TV subject, just want to let you know that I have the Mi TV 4 55 inch 4K bought during its launch in India in May 2018, and I am getting the correct 1920 X 1080p resolution on Hotstar. Since the TV in question here is 43 inch one, can someone else with the same model can confirm if this is a specific issue with particular TV, or are all TVs of same model having this issue?

On the same subject, if someone wants to check the true resolution, play the 4K ultra HD video from YouTube and turn on the "Stats for Nerds" option from YouTube setting (3 dots).

Attached is the resolution from YouTube on my Mi TV 55 inch.
