New technique to fight piracy-Degrade quality.

Microsoft has launched a new technique to fight piracy in its Windows Vista operating systems
Quote:
Vista would "downgrade" the quality of all video and audio, if they were not output via approved connections on the PC.
Microsoft said only the quality of "premium content" would be lowered, and only if requested by copyright holders.

Poor Microsoft. The harder they try the faster their products get hacked. Vista FR (Final Release) is claimed to be on millions of desktops worldwide permanently free even before its been launced. And the same source indicates that all features of these "free" Vistas are completely enterprise-class.

I was thinking of upgrading my laptop to Vista. But I think I'll hold that for a while now

Old pros like me usually wait for Service pack 1 before upgrading, at least on office PCs and Servers. Either SP1 or one year after release.

Even if they stop playing video and audio it won't matter.
A person who can create a cracked distro of something touted to be crackproof will have enough sense to create a workaround for this too.
Anyways there are enough third party tools available. Unless they plan to do something with the screen itself, its not going to matter.
