Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

The eighth edition of the Hollywood franchise - Fast & Furious, has been released in India. Named The Fate of the Furious, the action movie is directed by Felix Gary Gray who's also known for directing "The Italian Job". The screenwriter of the film is Chris Morgan who has been with the franchise since the third movie - Tokyo Drift.

The movie boasts of a star-studded cast, including Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren. This will be the first time since Tokyo Drift (2006) when the star cast won't include Paul Walker, who died in a car crash on November 30, 2013.

The movie's trailers have shown that Vin Diesel's character - Dominic Toretto, has turned against his friends and family. The film has been shot across the world at multiple locations, including New York City, Havana and Atlanta.

The first movie under the Fast and Furious name was released in 2001 and was able to instantly form a fan base, largely constituting of automobile enthusiasts. The makers then released 6 other movies under the franchise - 2 Fast 2 Furious, Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious 4, Fast 5, Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7.

Sharing two reviews from the English Movies thread:

Outrageous !!! One word to describe the movie. From the first race, to the car-flying-all-over scene till the tundra scene, everything is outrageous. But, watching this outrageous movie at IMAX 3D is fun.

From the trailer, you can make out the plot that Dom goes rogue against his family. WHY? Well, the reason is not so convincing and a bit far fetched too.

Dom meets a super villain while he is living a peaceful life in Cuba and things start moving. The super villain is also an expert cyber criminal/hacker and literally can control anything and everything from her office in mid-air.

Honestly, I think they should stop making F&F now. There is really nothing new to offer, in terms of story or emotional content. All they can do is create a visual spectacle and numb the audience with over the board special effects.

The entire scene in the 2nd half shot in Tundra is my pick of this version and totally worth a watch.

Overall, watch this movie in IMAX 3D if you can, or watch it as world TV premier on Star Movies later.

My expectations aren't too high, due to the disastrous Furious 7. Will still go to see it though.

Its a lot better than Furious 6 and 7. A very decent one time watch, provided you leave your brains outside.
Honestly, the series pretty much lost the plot after Fast5.

They should really just stop. FnF 7 was sooo bad. Frankly, it just seems like the rerun of the old movies with new clothes.

There's a 10 movie 2 decade plan in play. Next one in 2019 and another one in 2021.

Re: Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

Honestly the series wouldn't have got this far had Fast and Furious 4 failed. It was here, where it was more action less cars.

First ran for novelty, second part itself didn't bring anything new. Third was independent and forgettable. 5th again was decent. 6th went downhill. Haven't seen 7th yet. 8th is in theaters this week, let's see if i can catch up.

Not interested in the F&F series anymore. The main reason being they have deviated from there primary plot of street racing. Fast 5 was the last F&F that I actually enjoyed despite being low on the street racing part.
If I wanted to watch cars doing impossible stunts I'd go see the Mad Max series.

Re: Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

I too felt Fast & Furious is leaning towards Rajnikanth kinda action sequences.

Entertainer in a way, but then... something is missing.

On a lighter note.

Re: Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

Went and saw this movie today. Movie itself is nothing much to write about. As all others have mentioned F&F series are becoming typical action movie but even then it was not great to watch. Thankfully watched it in IMAX 3D (though the prices in bangalore are way too much for it) which turned out to be saving grace.

P.S : Guess the open ending means that there is atleast one more installment in the making.

Re: Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

Went to watch the movie yesterday and have to say I did not like it. The only saving grace is the character played by Charlize Theron.

F&F is now just about meaningless stunts and Bollywood brand of humor.

Not 1 but 2 more in the pipeline!
It's been confirmed that the Fast & Furious series will have two more installments and the tenth one will be the final one.

The way F&F series is going the "filmy" way when it comes to bizzare and unrealistic stunts I wouldn't be surprised if they hire Rajnikanth or Rohit Shetty to act/direct the oncoming films.

Re: Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

Watched the movie yesterday. A typical F&F genre, action, and story line. Nothing too exciting, nothing too boring either.

Watch it if you are F&F follower and have watched all previous 7 installments. I would say it is still good enough because I never felt bored during entire 136 minutes of the show.

I watched this in 3D , that's why I liked it a bit more.

Re: Fast & Furious 8 premieres in India

Watched this movie, felt it was a waste of time.
Somehow, couldn't connect with the movie especially due to story-line.

Was rather bored in spells. May be my expectations were high.
Overall the action is taken too far.

Next installment, I will watch after getting more reviews.
