I believe RBI is issuing commemorative coins this week. Does any member know where and how to procure them? This is a photo I received on WA. |

You can buy commemorative coins from the India Government Mint website. The available coins to buy or book and their prices are all listed here. You can also visit personally and procure the coins.
Couple of pics for now :)
1: Two misprinted (?) Rs.10/- Notes. (Are these of any value?)
2: Page of my collection. Rs.1/- coins. Some pre-independence ones in there as well.
Stopped collecting coins many years back, and just sort of dusting the album now and organizing them better.
Got some kashmir and hyderabadi coins and a couple of ancient unidentified ones. Shall scan them sometime later and put it up here.
For the first time I purchased a commemorative coin from the Govt. This was from the India Govt Mint. Did it as an experiment to check if it actually works ordering something from a Govt agency through the web. Bought a Rs 100 coin of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Photos below. Now I will try for more.
My grandfather had got me a couple of these commemorative coin sets. Nice to own them :)

The ordering process on their website is so weird and it is slower than the slowest turtle. I gave up after trying for few minutes using the website and then the app. were you able to place your order easily ?

Agree 101%. After a few tries I made it. They confirmed on email. Then silence for three months. Then viola.
I actually thought of pursuing coin collection as a hobby only after seeing this thread. I used to pick up at least one or two coins from each country I visited and tossed them into a shoe box. That collection or dabba of coins has partly grown or got lost. My daughter, as a child started taking care of them by sticking them in a coin book. Thanks to her some from lesser visited countries are still around.
Where aircraft scale models go I know what to savour and what to not bother over but with regard to coins I'm actually clueless. So for starters I've decided to stick to Indian coins and notes and build a collection around that theme.
Does anyone know where in Delhi-NCR does one buy coins from. Your help will be deeply appreciated.
Some more for the viewing pleasure of our readers......
Denmark 5 Kroner
Hungary, 100 Forint
Nepal, Rs 10/-; Bhutan, 1 Ngultrum
India, Rs 5/-, Jawharlal Nehru, India's first PM
San Marino, 50 & 20 cents

Please don't :D with a naughty 4yr old in the house i am pretty sure buildable scale models won't stay built for long :D
I had scanned some pre independence coins, east india company coins and some coins of kingdoms. Shall put em up in here later tonight. I had managed to identify some of the old coins thanks to a friend of mine, but two still remain unknown.
Think i got most of them on the side roads outside Mysore Palace way way back when i was a kid.

Wow. Looking forward to that.
Scanned images (front and back) of some of my coins. Feels weird when you are holding such aged pieces of history in your hands :)

clap: serious collection pieces. Congratulations. Would you know how to clean these old coins to get the hardened grime off and make the shine come through.

Thanks :)
I really don't wan't to go digging into that rabbit hole, heh heh. But am sure there should be plenty of youtube videos out there.
I really wish i could get someone to identify the two coins adjacent to the 1883 Kutch coin. On one of the coins i can make out, what i assume, a god and goddess or king and queen next to each other.

My wisdom from watching
The Pawn Stars on TV suggests that the risk of damaging the items when trying to clean them is far higher than leaving the dirt and grime as-is. What I want to know is how to preserve the coins without causing further damage and maintain the shine of the newer coins added to the collection.
