I did not know that:Shockked:. Thank you, one gets to learn something to learn everyday:). I had two other aircraft in my mind.

In Soviet service during WW2 and later, the Consolidated PBY Catalina got the NATO reporting name "Mop" and the Douglas A-20 Havoc got the name "Box".

Another one from DB Jets?

Thank you. Yes, sourced from DBJets.

I only went for this because I was looking for an A321 in house colours and this seemed like a perfect companion for my AI A320neo.

Thank you Kanchan. I had no clue the P-63 was given a reporting name after WW-2. Nice to learn something new. clap:Because of its ruggedness the Soviets liked it while at the same time heaping scorn on the Hawker Hurricane Britain had donated. You are getting dangerous :D

I think you mistook Foxbat's post as mine, Thank him. I had no idea about the P-63 . I knew and have read about about the very similar looking P-39 Air Cobra that had the world's first tricycle type landing gear installed on a fighter.

Man. This is one smart model. The B757 filled such a vital segment in terms of size-range that I often wondered why Boeing discontinued it after just 20 odd years.

Sufficient aircraft continued in use after the war for them to be given the NATO reporting name of Fred. By 9 May 1945, operational units had still 1,148 Kingcobras on strength

Wow!!! We all learnt something new today. I did not know the Catalina flew in Soviet colours. And I definitely did not know about Fred and Box. Now which Shakespeare line were you talking of:-)

In reference to the Douglas A-20.

IL-76TD- 90VD Candid Volga Dnepr Air Freight carrier::1:200, plastic, Airlines home model
Decent quality. Not quite in the league as HobbyMaster/JC Wings but still attractive given that IL-76 1:200 models are not easily found. This is an airline model distributed by Volga Dnepr. Original maker not known

The IL-76 needs little introduction to readers of this thread. The IL-76 is long range heavy lifter for both civil and military applications. 960 were built between 1974 to mid/late-1990s. This versatile aircraft was modified to serve as an aerial water bomber, space mission zero-G training craft, the A-50 Beriev AWACS and the IL-78 aerial refueling tanker.

The IL-76 by design is four engined, T-tailed with shoulder mounted wings and a large full width tail ramp. The engines are set closely together such that their efflux washes the double slotted flaps to aid lift. The cargo hold has a clear size of 66 feet long, 11 feet high and 11 feet wide. The IL-76 is designed for transporting 40,000 kgs over 5000 kms in 6-hours.

The four 12,000 kgf engines gave it only a marginal hot and high capability in Indian environment. When it entered service in 1986 it gave the IAF real strategic lift capability. With the demise of the USSR sadly this capable aircraft was not developed beyond the mid-1990s though the potential for upgrades were clear.

In the title IL-76TD-90VD TD stands for conversions from military aircraft and 90VD stands for the more modern more powerful Aviadvigatel PS-90 engines of 16,000 kgf each. There are for such aircraft all operated by Volga Dnepr. The IAF operates 17 IL-76MDs. I wonder if we will up-engine them with the PS-90.

The mighty Gajraj!!!! Nice looking model sir. Congratulations. Its a pity that none of the reputed brands like JC, Hogan, Hobby master etc make models of the Russian heavies in 1/200 scale.

I wish for that too.
Some IAF IL-76MDs received some minor internal upgrades, details of which are unknown. But the most distinguishing feature of these upgraded IAF IL-76s is deletion of the Tail gun turret and the Tail gunner cabin- which essentially makes it look like a civilian IL-76TD.

IAF IL-76MD KI-2664 (former K-2664) - possibly another "Upgraded" One. Tail gun turret deleted:

Thats a rare model in 1:200 Scale and seems to be well detailed :thumbs up

I see you have also started collecting multiple models of the same plane also (this one in addition to your 1:400 Il-76) like Kanchan and I do :D

I think this model must have been procured from one of your industry contacts.

1:400 Boeing 747-430 FC Bayern Munchen "Together We Win" Special Livery Registration: D-ABVU

The popular German Football club, FC Bayern Munchen, used this plane on their 2015 Summer Pre-Season tour in China. It has FC Bayern Munchen Logo with "Together We Win" written beside it and same in Chinese.

Narayan, I ordered this from the Aircraft Model Store and despite my requests they shipped it with the declared value = price of model + international shipping costs! Luckily no customs duty was charged.

Great looking Jumbo. Congratulations!!!

Didn't you have an LH A330 or A340 as well? LH's new livery just looks so boring. The old livery, like the one in your LH models, looked elegant.

I find it amazing that they manage to mark such minute details in such tiny 1/400, 1/500 scale models.

Outstanding quality and attention to detail. A masterpiece in 1:400. Congratulations on this great addition to your Lufthansa fleet.

Yes I have a Lufthansa A340-600 in 1:200 and 1:500 Scale which are now at my parents house and a Lufthansa A320 in 1:100 Scale which is on my office desk. I agree the old livery is way better.

1:400 Boeing C-17A Globemaster III CB-8003 No. 81 Sqdn Indian AF "Skylords"(Gemini Jets - GeminiMACS)
The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III ,as you all know, is a large strategic and tactical airlift military transport aircraft. It was developed for the United States Air Force (USAF) from the 1980s to the early 1990s by McDonnell Douglas(acquired by Boeing in the late 1990s). The C-17 was designed to operate from runways as short as 3,500 ft and as narrow as 90 ft. In addition, the C-17 can operate from unpaved, unimproved runways. The thrust reversers can be used to move the aircraft backwards and reverse direction on narrow taxiways using a three- (or more) point turn.

The C-17 carries forward the name of two previous piston-engined military cargo aircraft, the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II.

Indian Air Force & the C-17A
The Indian Air Force placed an order for 10 Boeing C-17s though US's Foreign Military Sales program( with an option for six more). The first IAF C-17 arrived in India in June 2013 followed by the second in July 2013. The C-17s are based at Hindon Air Force Station and are operated by a newly raised IAF squadron - No. 81 Squadron "Skylords".

Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships-skylords.jpg

By the time the IAF decided to have six more C-17s, the production of C-17s had already ended( in 2015). Five White Tail C-17s were produced by Boeing before production line was shut. Four of which were quickly ordered by Qatar. The IAF acquired the last ever C-17 and it arrived in India last month (CB-8011).

It took the total number of C-17s operated by the Skylords to 11. The IAF is the second largest C-17 operator in the world after the USAF, which as 222 C-17s. IAF C-17s are serial numbered from CB-8001 to 8011.

Gemini Jets makes really detailed 1:400 models like yours and the Lufthansa 747 and Emirates A380 I had posted. But they do charge a premium for it.

Is the 1:200 hogan diecast or plastic? Strange they left out the serial number otherwise seems to be well detailed.

Great catch for your fleet Sandesh. Even though it is 1:400 it is very decently sized and being a Gemini well made and detailed. Congratulations.

I get the feeling that the 1:400 of several models are actually less than half the length of the 1:200s of the same aircraft. What do you folks have to say.

I have had the same feeling many times but whenever I have measured they do come to be half of the 1:200 scale models.

I think the perception is due the huge difference in volume of the fuselage and other solid parts. Length,Width and Height each will be 50% of the 1:200 model.

But Volume(LxWxH) will be 0.5 X 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.125, i.e. only 12.5% or 1/8th of the bigger model.
Model manufacturers are ripping us off as the prices are definitely not 1/8th for 1:400 models!
