I normally stay away from 1:500 due to size and weaker quality but this was a rare find. I think one other BHPian too has this.

IL-96-300; 1:400 scale; diecast

An-124 Ruslan; 1:400, diecast

Unique and rare additions to your collection
Really like the IL-96, Puntin uses its sometimes for official visits.
As suggested by SKanchan you need a An-225 to complete the collection.

After buying a few 1:500 models for the first time I also feel the accuracy and details leaves much to be desired compared to the larger scales.

Foxbat you are on a roll. One big model after another. Looks like a loooot of cabinet space has been made. You undressed the model right in the hotel room....you couldn't resist mate....

The cockpit windows of the A350 look like the eyes of a raccoon. Happy landings.

I bought it from https://www.wafflecollectibles.com/ and shipped it to a US address and picked it up from there. They have sales a few times in the year and thats when I order most of my models.
They will ship to India but shipping costs and customs duty will make the price exorbitant.

Alternatively you can buy it from this Indian website https://dbjets.com/in/p/Singapore-Ai...craft-model/49, Skanchan, VNarayan and I have bought from this guy many times. Prices in India are much higher compared to the US as all models are imported.

Congratulations!!! Its a truly beautiful looking model.
The SQ A350 easily looks the best among the three A350s in your collection.

re: Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships

Thank you for sharing the anecdote. I prefer liveries and tail fin numbers that have a real aircraft and story behind them. So bear with me as I say pass.

But maybe you can reconsider..................

Aircraft registered as G-BOAC first flew in 1975 and was nominally considered the flagship of the UK fleet of Concordes. I regret never having flown in this iconic aircraft. The fares were always too high for a small entrepreneur and my economy budget!

I was offered this model by DB. It looks fabulous but being a 'what-if' model meant I was not interested.

He even has an Inflight200 Air India B747-400 VT-EVA in AI's old colours livery.

re: Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships

McDonnell Douglas MD-87; 1:200 scale, Hogan diecast model

Model is just under 8 inches in length.

MD-87 was a member of the famous everlasting DC-9/MD-80 family. When it comes to size variants by stretching the airframe this family takes the top slot with 11 different fuselage lengths if you include the Boeing 717 which was a take on the MD-87 albeit with new engines. The MD-87 itself was a modification of the DC-9 Series 50. Till the early 1980s the DC-9 family was the best selling twin engine airliner ever with 926 sold. Including the MD-80 series and the Boeing 717 the total stood at 2323 only exceeded to best of my knowledge by the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.

The MD-87 carried typically 130 economy class passengers. For purposes of comparison a Airbus A320 of say Indigo carries 180 pax. It had a real life operational range of ~4000 kms with a full passenger payload. Its engines were the P&W JT8D-200 series which were a refanned version of the JT8D early turbofans that powered the venerable Boeing 727s. In the 1970s P&W (and McDonnell Douglas) decided to go down this route of a quick upgrade to an existing proven but very old design and got it to the market by 1980. Boeing instead went with General Electric who along with SNECMA of France developed a wholly new design the now ubiquitous CFM series and brought it in with the Boeing 737-300 in 1984. Eventually the Boeing & CFM combination ruled partially due to its fuel efficiency per seat-mile.

Interesting factoid - the JT8D was developed by the Swedes into the Volvo Flygmotor RM8 with a Swedish afterburner that powered the Saab Viggen. The Yanks refused to let the Swedes offer the Viggen to us in the 1970s in the DPSA (Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft) programme that went to the Anglo-French Sepecat Jaguar.

Caravelle III; 1:200 scale model from Hogan

Model size length ~6 inches; wing span ~7 inches

Caravelle was the third jet airliner ever to take to the skies after the de Havilland Comet and Boeing 367-80 the precursor of the Boeing 707. The prototype first flew in May 1955 pre-dating the Tupolev 104 by a month. The Caravelle entered service in 1959 with SAS and Air France. Seven served with Indian Airlines and were the pride of our fleet in the early 1960s to early-1970s. They were retired rapidly from 1977 onwards following a ghastly crash at Mumbai in 1976.

The Caravelle III which along with the VI was one of the two most produced versions

Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships-caravelle-2.jpg
In the early days of jet flight there was quite a bit of experimentation of the most ideal way to place the engines – under the wing, on the fuselage rear, two under the wings and one under the tail, in wing roots et al. The Caravelle was the first tail mounted engine design.

Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships-caravelle-4.jpg
Note the prominent wing fences designed to hold the airflow closer to the wing and thus improve flight control at high speeds. The two Rolls Royce Avon turbojets were civil versions of the engine that powered the Hawker Hunter. The Caravelle was as noisy as it was beautiful. When you stood at the visitors gallery in Mumbai watching a Caravelle take-off you could hear the sound roaring even after the aircraft was well over the Arabian sea and banking towards the north or south.

Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships-caravelle-5.jpg
Note how the tail plane is placed half way up the tail fin to stay out of the way of the engine efflux. Also note the tail fin root extension over the airframe’s roof – that’s for greater stability. It was also used to pack in radio electronics.

Very nice, coincidentally I was just thinking of buying this model from DBjets last night but at the last moment resisted temptation.

This is the 2nd Caravelle in your collection I guess along with the Corse-Air Caravelle VI.N posted on the 1st page of this thread? The other one must be huge in comparison as its a 1/72 scale.

The yesteryear liveries are the best compared to modern ones.

The bigger one was well over a foot long. Had bought from Airbus's shoppe at their plant in Toulouse. I gifted that away. So now I have only this one. My very first diecast scale model was an Indian Airlines Caravelle made locally 1:200 received for my 13th birthday. Sadly it disappeared somewhere in the 1990s.
