Out of these, the Kashmiri Gustava is outstanding! (At a short glance, details of more stuff later!) But it is an acquired taste as I discovered!

And the Thekwa from Jharkhand/Bihar is an all time favourite snack too!

ramzan in mumbai

hey v-16,
you really know your food. the way you have lined them up. I just wanted to know if we can get any authentic haleem in mumbai. Last year i went to Hyderabad and had the most filling haleems and Qubani-ka-meethas during ramzan.
gonna hit mohamed ali road this weekend with family and splurge on the goodies. If only I could have the raan all by myself...mmmm......selfish....greedy....mmmm...... .

Hi Abid. Welcome to the Forum.
The best Haleem or Khicchda is available at Bohari Mohalla. You go into the lane of Taj Ice cream (famous for one of the best Sitaphal ice creams) and
this guy stands just diagonally outside the shop with a big Cauldron full of the best haleem you can have.
Right consistency, right colour, not overtly douzed with spices or red chillies. Served in small "watis" topped with slivers of fried onions, mint leaves and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Though he is generous with the Desi ghee he will willingly put as a garnish, i refrain from it.

Another place you can get good (but not to my liking) Haleem is in Delhi Darbar (Jaffer Bhai's) at their Grant Road eatery.

Abid, please go through the board rules before posting. Also introduce yourself inthe appropriate thread. It will help all of us to get to know you better. Enjoy your stay here.

Sohail, Haleem and Khiccda is the same thing. Only in Hyderabad its called Haleem, which is a renamed Khichda as called in Awadhi cuisine.
Here is a Wiki link to the same.

Anytime Khanak. Lets meet up. Any day but one has to go post 11.00pm as that the time Vallibhai starts.
We can start with a Khichda/Haleem and then go on to Vallibhai.
The Minara masjid lane is somewhat overrated and overcrowded for hot food except the Nihari at Chinese Grill but its not available in the night.
Sohail make a programme and then we shall go with a big gang. Not this Saturday, ive got some other engagement. Maybe the next weekend

Has anyone been to Mondegar recently? Are they done with the renovation?

Someone recommend the Rippon Club to me for Parsi food. Anyone been there? I believe you can't get in without membership and you need to be a bawa to get membership or something like that.

@The resident foodies. Are the places in Saifee ambulance galli open now or are they there only during the Holy month of Ramzan? Couldnt resist from visiting there now as i had tangdi kababs from the guy opposite the haleem guy. Was delicious.
Gogi we seriously missed them in our meet. Mouth wateringly delicious
