Silvers and Blacks require huge tanks or a pond which i don't have. 3ft width is required. Beautiful fishes to keep, like mercury in water.

Rooftop tanks are placed at points where the load is distributed properly. Not sure if i can pick a random spot for a 700L tank inside the flat.

Shall ask around. My banjar red is almost max sized and is currently in a 6x2x2 tank at my grand mother's house where i used to stay. I go there once in two days or so to feed him and monthly once i do a 50% water change.

Sad that i can't take proper care of him and really want him to be in the flat. Wife keeps pressurizing me to bring him home.

And yes Arowanas are majestic fishes to keep

My cousin got himself a FX6 from fluval for his 8 foot tank. Damn that thing is huge. 25k. Saving up money to get me one of that :)

My 3 feet aquarium cannot accommodate it, otherwise I would have picked it.

My fish seller used to say that he had an arowana in his home which will consume food only if he is around and will not eat if he is not there. And hence he used to face difficult times when he had to go out of station.

Is your arowana also like that as you have mentioned you go there to feed him?

Fishes can be like that. But my arowana which used to eat Hikari carnivore sticks and mealworms, now eats only live fishes :(

So once in a few days, i dump some 20 rosy barbs, swordtails or mollies for him to gorge on.

Seeing a 2ft fish look right at you waiting for you to feed him is amazing.

I was going to feed my fishes a cabbage leaf today, but thought I would confirm here first. I read online that it has to be half-boiled (soft). Should I slice it into small pieces also? And is it fine to feed them cabbage?

Feeding them veggies is new for me. Let me start boiling peas and potatoes for my cichlids.. :)

deathwalker - I have goldfish. Gave them a boiled cabbage leaf after cutting into small pieces, and they were happily hunting for it! :)

I also tried veggies now - Frosted peas and carrots boiled. Peas was served after taking out the outer small covering after boiling. And the fish really enjoyed!!! (except for flowerhorn, he didnt come back after trying one). But the other fish happily consumed the whole quantity :) Peas were there favorite.

Remember not to go overboard :P

Thanks to my plecos who are crap machines, i have had to buy one more external filter. got one with uv.

So two external filters for a 4ft tank. Sigh...

Guys, couple of general submersible placement related questions.

Do we have to place the filter all the way down at the bottom just above the gravel or at the top section below the water level ?

Second, what is normal behavior of filter ? I have seen air bubbles when I keep it at top part, which doesnt show when its at the bottom (though it is throwing water out as per water current ) .... ?

My filter has a seperate pipe which takes in air from outside, and can be removed or submerged in water when only flow is needed (no bubbles).

I place mine on the top section (gives better results) but you need to check water level regularly as filter needs to be submerged totally in water always.

All the way at the bottom. Need to get the crap on the gravel sucked into the filter. Your filter may not be powerful enough to suck in air when kept at the bottom. Get an air pump separately for best results.
