Re: The Scale Model Thread

Casually walked into Hamley’s few years back and came across a pack of 1:72 scale cars. A single box had a total of 5 cars: Audi Q7, VW Golf GTI, Volvo C30, BMW 3 series and Alfa Romeo Brera.

The cars looked too cute to be left alone on the shelf and I brought them home. Found them in my cupboard today while searching for a Yi IP camera.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

We went on a nice fortnight’s holiday to the EU Zone after a long time. Of course there has to be a lot of driving and other car related stuff too, on any of the holidays I take. But then thats a story or bunch of stories for another day and maybe another thread or thread(s) as and when I feel like creating them.

For now, I shall confine myself purely to some lovely little scale model vehicles that I acquired on this visit.
1. A genuine Metal Meccano Dinky Toys 10 Ton Army Truck from the 1960’s or 1970’s. No idea what scale. Bought at a Flea Market Jumble sale in Interlaken, Switzerland from an elderly Swiss couple. It shows signs of foxing and rust. I shall gently restore it with petrol based solvents and perhaps repaint the rusty bits too. Luckily Bangalore weather won’t cause further damage.
2. A plastic Alpine Mercedes Bus also dating back to the 1970’s, no idea what scale but also bought at another shop at the same Flea Market Jumble Sale from an Senior Citizen German Gentleman. He had a bunch of other cars including a few Ferraris and an Isetta and so on. But they were all too big.
3. Mercedes Benz - 1:87 300SLR Silver Uhlenhaut Coupe - truly lovely shape.
4. Mercedes Benz -1:87 300 SLR Silver Roadster
5. Mercedes Benz -1:43 W125 1937 Silver Bolide
6. Mercedes Benz - 1:43 Red Pagoda 230 SL
All these were bought at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. And all faithful reproductions of the real ones in the museum.
7. Porsche 356 No 1, 1948, 1:43 Silver
8. Porsche 718 RS60 Spyder, 1:43 Silver
9. Porsche 550 Spyder 1:44 Blue
10. Porsche Diesel Schlepper Junior Tractor in Red. Beautifully detailed.
All these were bought at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. And all faithful reproductions of the real ones in the museum.
11. Mini Cooper R53 Souvenir Switzerland Car in 1:64
12. Mini Cooper R53 Souvenir Switzerland Car in 1:43
Bought in Zurich or Lucerne or somewhere, just because I like Mini Coopers and own one too.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

I'm slowly but surely building my collection, will buy a couple of Tomica's when I heard back home to Bangalore in a few days.

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231003_0544445272.jpg

As always I got some more Hot Wheels (from left to right)

Honda CR-X (looks like something 7 year old me made in NFS Underground 2)
Ford Bronco R in a Black/Red Borla livery
Honda CB750 Cafe
Dodge Charger Hellcat

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231003_054621963.jpg

I never had much luck with finding the Centy Toys "Queen 70's" Padmini models as the two colours I wanted (Taxi and White/Light Blue) weren't available anywhere I looked, online or physical. During my weekly visit to the one of the two places in Borivali I buy Hot Wheels from, I found this thing hanging around, so I bought it immediately.

Also does anyone know any good physical stores in Mumbai to buy model cars?

Re: The Scale Model Thread

I am on this sort of indefatigable Porsche Mania. Because I went to their museum and all recently and I ve always been Porsche mad and Ive collected many scale models too.
So I got this off of eBay. It just arrived today.
1:64 Kyosho. Red Porsche 904 GTS. Lovely little thing.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

What’s better than one Range Rover scale model? Two? Or perhaps multiple. Added a white SV to the collection which joins the black one which i did a semi black pack treatment as well as the previous generation model in 1:18 scale.

Those Range Rovers look awesome Benny.

Latest addition I bought one of those Premier Padminis from Centy toys and got it painted in exactly the same shade of the Premier Padmini we owned back in the day. Even added the registration number BLF 1139. This was our first car in India and we had taken delivery on Jan 1 1989. It was a Deluxe BE in Ambi Grey shade.

Automania at Prabhadevi is your best bet. They have a great collection.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Went to Oberoi Mall to pick something up and of course I stopped at Hamleys and found some odd twin packs of Hotwheels. Saw this pack with a white Nissan Silvia S13 and a Datsun 520 so I got that to use for a few photoshoots (you can also get these two in the Nissan 5 Pack set)
The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231003_161341665.jpg

As I was about to pay I noticed something, in a shelf next to the cash counter was some Majorette Race Trailer sets, got the Bilstein set with the Jaguar F-Type and old school Defender 110.

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231003_160843906.jpg

Saw this Dacia 1300 Majorette model at my usual place in Borivali, being a massive James May fan growing up I absolutely had to get this.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

This was something that was missing from my collection. And I finally got one.

Bought this 1:18 model of Ayrton Senna's 1989 Mclaren Honda MP4-5 made by Minichamps from Ebay.

Just so stoked to get hold of a Senna car.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Was wandering about the City today with a good friend who is also a Merc enthusiast and owner.
We were casually looking at a superb old Mercedes 280S which is for sale and lurking about near Cubbon Park. After that we toodled along to the Mercedes Benz showroom where we were looking at an AMG Tuned GLA and the LWB 4 Cyl E Class and all.
I noticed and grabbed this wonderful 190 SL in 1:18 Scale. No price off, but heck what a gorgeous car! Mercedes-Benz cars Quality is really something else.

Oh Lord! won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

Then when I came back home, I found a lovely little 1:43 Lancia Fulvia which I had ordered on eBay from Italy, had reached.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Came back home to Bangalore for a week and I think I went a little crazy with the Hot Wheels purchases.

I bought 22 cars in total (excluding 4 cars I'll show separately) and I've split them into 4 groups so I don't overcrowd the photos (3 groups of 5 and 1 group of 7) and for some reason most of the cars ended up being American. (Sorry for the terrible pictures)

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_202610951.jpg
Group 1 (L to R)
Dodge Charger Drift Car (Looks like a Police Drift Car because of the bull bars and blue lights)
Custom '68 Camaro
Matt and Debbie Hay's 1988 Pros Street Ford Thunderbird
Mustang NHRA Funny Car
'86 Ford Thunderbird Pro Stock

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_202646477.jpg
Group 2 (L to R)
Ducati Desert X
'89 Mazda Savanna RX7 FC3S
'18 Honda Civic Type R Police Car
'20 Toyota Tacoma
Mighty K (modified Kei Truck)

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_202716672.jpg
Group 3 (L to R)
Porsche 928S Safari
'89 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG
Volvo P1800 Gasser (Hot Wheels Legends Tour)
HW Braille Racer Twin Mill
HW-4-TRAC

The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_202755077.jpg
Group 4 (L to R)
Corvette C7 Z06 Convertible
'62 Corvette
'18 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
'64 Chevy Nova Wagon
'80 El Camino
'92 Dodge Viper RT/10
Ken's 2024 GMC Hummer EV from the Barbie Movie.

Here are the other cars:

1. Nissan Fairlady Z (400Z) Nismo GT500 from Tomica
The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_202904085.jpg
The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_202944135.jpg

The car is Matte Black and the the rear window is silver for some reason, comes with just Nissan and Nismo branding you need to add the Bosch and Race Number stickers yourself but I won't, looks like a Prototype test car that way.

2. Hot Wheels Scania Rally Truck
The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_203100908.jpg
The extended black part retracts into the back of the truck to make it looks like spare wheels on a Dakar Truck.

3. Hot Wheels Monster Truck Barbie Ultimate Camper
The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_203113464.jpg

4. Centy Toys Ambassador VIP Car
The Scale Model Thread-pxl_20231008_203120638.jpg

All this was bought at just two shops.

12/22 cars, the Scania Rally Truck and Tomica 400Z GT500 car were all bought at my usual place in Bangalore, Playport at Church Street.

The remaining 10 cars, Barbie Monster truck and Centy Ambassador were bought at a rather unexpected place and was actually unplanned as I was happy with my initial purchase.

On my way back home I was having a cup of coffee near Gurushree Hospital in Chandra Layout. And to pass the time I was looking up random toy stores and found this highly rated place called Funmates just a few hundred meters away. From the pictures it looked like a regular toy shop but they had some treasures waiting for me inside. They had a great selection of Hotwheels near the counter and even some Majorette models. In another part of the store they had the bigger cars like the Monster Trucks and an entire section practically dedicated to Centy Toys. Extremely helpful staff, highly recommended it if you're in the area.
