Re: The Scale Model Thread

This thread must be renamed: "Toy Car Collection Thread" as it is not worthy of being named "Scale Model Thread".

This is the harsh reality as all one gets to see are cheap toys!

What do you mean by functionality? A 1:18 model usually comes with opening doors, hood & bonnet, steerable front wheels. Wellys are priced anywhere between 2400 to 3000 rupees.

I agree. Ideally, anything below 1:18 should be classified as a toy, but i guess we could squeeze in 1:24, coz there are a lot of budding collectors who want to start small. But any smaller & its most definitely a toy.
Sad to see very few additions to this thread in the last couple of months. Guess the Rupee-$ screw-up is affecting import plans for all

You Sir, could not be wrong more.

You want to call my models toys, fine by me. Any kids touch my models/toy they are in for it.

A kid of say 8 years of age, buys a model car he will call it a toy. I buy that very same model it become a treasured possession. Worthy of elaborate macro photography and long texts on this forum as to what is so special. The price is totally and utterly irrelevant.

I like my models and I like looking at what others like. I only wished I had toys like these when I was a little boy. I'm 54 years old, so I'll damn well buy any model I wish/can afford. And I call them models, because I'm 54 and not 8 any more.

I stand by what I say. Please see what quality models other members have posted in early pages and you may understand.

I did look at the first pages of this thread. Look at the photographs on the first page. Some very nice cars, some very well photographed. But in all honesty, nothing that special. I really don't know where you would get models here in India. But in most of Europe you would find these sort of models in good toy and hobby stores and obviously good model car stores. I read that the owner enjoy them, I like looking at them, what's wrong with that.

Actually, the two model cars I posted are maybe not that special, but you'd be hard pressed to find these models in the colours I purchased. I posted a few weeks a thread about my visit to Techno Classica in Essen Germany. Absolute mekka for classic car fanatics and car model enthusiast. Tried to get two more of my models. There must have been literally tens of thousands of models, but nobody had the one I had. So I consider them rare now!

The stig figurine is next to impossible to source in India. Will have to be imported - again difficult to source a good / reasonably priced one, similar to the one KRN6789 has. Incase if you do find one, buy 1 for me too man, we'll touch base later

Re: The Scale Model Thread

I hope this qualifies to be in this thread.
Dear mods, please move it to appropriate section if it does not belong here.
I've been thinking for a very very long time whether to put it up here or not. However, finally here it is.

I had made my first scale model in 2006 and frankly it was something that I stumbled upon by chance.
Browsing through the web, I came across this concept where you could print a vehicle on paper and then cut it and make sub assemblies and finally the main assembly.

It seemed very interesting and I took it up as something that would keep me occupied for a while.

I spent close to 2 months, with about 3 hours daily, every evening after returning from office.
With the lack of proper handling tools some parts became even more difficult to make.

All in all, the model consists of about 180 individual pieces, put together in sub assemblies and then the final assembly.

Since I was relatively younger then and never had a camera until much later, I only have the pics of the final product and not those in between.

I will let the pics do the talking.

Model : Yamaha R1
Dimensions: 14" x 3" x 5"
Made of: A4 Paper (normal print grade)
Tools used: Canon Printer, Glue, Spoon (to make creases), Bottle Cap, Blade & Scissors

Much later after 7 years (this year) I decided to try my hands on a Mini Cooper Countryman S (Tamiya Kit). I'll post that separately with more details and a bit of tough luck that i ran into.
