Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Respected F1 commentator Jean-Louis Moncet claims that a GoPro camera mount caused Schumi's head injury.

And MotorSport is carrying the story that GoPro shares have fallen nearly eight percent as a result of those comments.

Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

This is a tricky situation for GoPro.

In some countries, attaching anything to your helmet is illegal.

While Formula 1 helmets are about structural integrity, skateboard (and I'd imagine ski) helmets are about spreading the impact and they often shatter to do this.

I can see how something hard and small, like a GoPro mount on a helmet could do damage.

Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

A doctor who treated Schumacher at the Grenoble hospital said at an interview that Schumi has indeed woken up from his coma and that recovery from injuries like Schumi's have ranged between 1 and 3 years.

All that Schumi needs, is time, he says.

He is still visiting him periodically and somehow I get the feeling from what he said it may be more than three years.

Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Quote:
A former medical delegate for the Formula 1 World Championship, Dr Hartstein – who believes the decorated driver is still for all intents and purposes – said: "Life expectancy for a comatose patient who does not improve neurologically is measured in months to a relatively few years."
The world, Dr Hartstein said, is now watching the "long goodbye" of its greatest racing star.

This article seems to me a lot more sensational in its claims.

Quote:
Michael Schumacher is allegedly close to death and he is losing his battle to recover from the devastating brain injury that has left him in a coma for close to a year.
A doctor has now admitted that the German racing icon’s family are currently saying a “long goodbye” to Michael Schumacher. However his wife, Corinna, is still hopeful that her husband will “walk, talk and feel again” and she is remaining hopeful.
Dr. Gary Hartstein, who knew Schumacher throughout his Formula 1 career, has now admitted that he is concerned for the driver’s fate and he has told the Mail Online that as more time passes it is unlikely that Schumacher will recover from his injuries.

Either way, my heart sunk when I read the title of the 2nd article. But I still have hope that the great Michael Schumacher will beat the odds, like he always has.

#ForzaMichael

Just read on yahoo india that Michael is paralyzed and in a wheelchair .
He cannot speak and has memory problems . The statement was made by former racing driver Phillipe streiff .
He is getting better but everything is relative .

Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Apparently he is now reacting to sounds of his near ones - family, dogs, etc, with tears. So there is some reaction from him.

Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Apparently MaurizioArrivabene (Team Principal Ferrari F1 Team) got a sms from Michaels mobile (msg sent by his manager and family) congratulating the team for winning the Malaysian GP.

Let's all hope that it doesn't go the same way for him as it went for Freddie Hunt, son of the late great James Hunt.

Freddie obviously was subjected to very high expectations and attention when he made his F4 debut, and he just couldn't handle all of it. So he went to Argentina for a few years for some soul-searching.

He's 27 now, and currently racing in the Clio Cup, aspiring for a Le Mans seat in the future.

Wishing them both the very best.

Re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

The condition of Michael was the subject of fresh concern on Thursday evening following a remark from Luca di Montezemolo, who said: “I have news and unfortunately it is not good.”

The former Ferrari president, who said he was “always checking up on the driver”, was speaking to journalists in Milan, and added: “Michael was a great driver, and we experienced a long time together in both our personal and professional lives. But life is really strange. He was the most successful driver of Ferrari and in his career he had only one accident, in 1999. But unfortunately a fall in a ski accident has broken him.”

Sabine Kehm, Schumacher’s manager has declined to respond to Montezemolo's comments.
