Veteran Film Actor Pran No More

Veteran film actor Pran Krishan Sikand, (12 February 1920 – 12 July 2013) popularly known as PRAN, who was one of the top villains of yester years, especially during the Golden Era of Bollywood cinema, passed away at the Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, today, at age 93. Pran was ailing and undergoing treatment since a long time. In 2000, he was named Villain of the Millennium by Stardust. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2001.Very recently in 2013, he was conferred with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award (the highest film award instituted by the Govt of India).

It is ironical that children were not named Pran in our country, when the thespian was very popular at the peak of his career, as it bode an ill-feeling, owing to his screen image.

He acted in over 350 films and was also known as gentleman Pran off-screen.Among his well known films are Ziddi (his first film and also the one in which Kishore Kumar sang his first song), Halaku,Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hain, Kashmir Ki Kali, Waqt, Zanjeer, Don, Amar Akbar Anthony, Upkaar, Parichay and Sharabi among the 350, he acted in, during his career spanning six decades. Zanjeer catapulted Amitabh Bachchan to super stardom. The last rites of Pran Sahab are to be performed at the Shivaji Park crematorium, Mumbai, at 12.00 pm tomorrow 13/07/2013.

May his soul rest in peace. A great actor indeed.
I think he was the only villian to have been paid more than actors for his role in films. That itself speaks high of his high demand due to his exceptional acting skills and people demand
