I am not exactly sure about the line between International and National brand of ciggarettes ?
I mean Wills , Classic , Gold Flake etc are just made by ITC under a licence from WD and HO Wills and Co.

...and then there is the Phillip Morris and Co. ...
I think brands like Jaisalmer etc. are the original ITC brands ...but I am not totally sure ..

Made by ITC under license from BAT (British American Tobacco, ex-owners of the BAR F1 team). Unless I'm mistaken, legend "WD & HO Wills" is a gimmick to make us think we're smoking 'foreign' cigarettes...I dont think BAT has a Wills brand anywhere else.

Incidentally ITC is nothing but BAT with a local name, so Jaisalmer is also a foreign cigarette. The only 'Indian' cigarettes would be those made by Vazir Sultan Tobacco (VST), the most famous of them being Charminar. Charms is hardly seen these days - they used to be the rage when we were in college, the 'denim' pack being a fashion statement of sorts.

Anyone remember Capstan? Not the 'cheap' Capstan that you get these days, but the ones that were ITC's mainstay before Wills came along - I used to flick them from my uncles packet as a kid because the tobacco used to smell so good.

Actually I have smoked a Wills King Size. It was 'Made in UK' or something like that. I forget. I smoked those for a week at those small 'thattukadas' outside the Museum in TVM. I asked the guy from where he got those - he said it was 'imported' but could not enlighten me further. Never seen them again after that stock ran out. I am convinced they were not fakes as I have not smoked smoother cigarettes than those, except maybe the 'imported' 555s I used to save up for.

Wills Kingsize was available in Kerala for some time. They were ITC products, similar to the Wills Silk Cut that were apparently being test-marketed when I was home during August.

I know. I am talking about the foreign made ones. It was in a gold/yellow coloured pack if I remember correctly. Price was Rs 3.50 in those days.

Gold/Yellow Wills/Golf Flake packs may be from Sri Lanka.

Started out smoking all kinds of Indian and International brands in school. Finally stuck to Gold flake kings for 2 years and then changed to Marlboro reds through college till 2002. From then on smoking Wills Classic regular.

Btw, I dont smoke much but smoke everyday!

Since all of you seem to have forgotten why I revived this thread - here it is - funny stuff. Shows that we are not the only species smoking.

http://www.quit.org.au/quit/FandI/fandi/c14s8.htm

The above link explains the link between BAT and WD and HO WILLS ....its all tangled up and complex ...

Steeroid ... I remember the Denim pack of Charms ... was so popular at that time.

But apart from that ... since almost ALL the ciggarettes we smoke are infact foreign brands ...then I guess this poll stands nullified ...

Interesting link Metallica. From the link above:

Cigarettes (locally manufactured): Ardath, Ascot, Barclay, Benson & Hedges, Capstan, Claridge, Commodore, Craven A, Escort, Freeport, Hallmark, Horizon, John Player, Kent, Kool, Sterling, Stradbroke, Turf, Wills. Imported brands: Lucky Strike and Pall Mall (Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation US) and Senior Service (J A Patrejouex UK)

Locally made means Australia right? Nice. We can go up to an Aussie paanwaala and say - Bhai ek packet wills do.
