Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

We do believe in Vastu, but then there can be many views on the same. While construction of the house from which I am typing this, my parents did read about a lot of things.
My society builder was not getting bookings at that time, so dad gave me Vastu suggestions. He got excellent results. But same is not applicable to our house. We have actually spoiled the entire design just in order to follow the Vastu, but actually those who have door facing the wrong direction ( i.e. West and South ) have got much much more success than us.

So its true, but a lot does depend upon individuals fate too. And last but not the least, Vastu alone cannot solve issues, hard work ( i.e. input ) by humans has to be made.

Hire an expert and pay him some money. The house will have good Vasthu. He will even give a certified report to show your wife . Money is the cure of all evils, including bad omens, bad planets, bad vibes, bad magic.
All you need is the right money and the right practitioner

There's superstition for you in a nutshell.

Pardon my bluntness but if you put your foot down and move into this house, every illness, every fall, every minor accident, every major tragedy, every examination score, every automobile mishap will SOMEHOW be attributed to that damn bad vastu. And sooner or later you will get fed up and sell your place off. My advice to you is: either DON'T check a place's vastu at all or, having done so, abide by it. There are no half-measures!
Newpunter

I can completely understand the dilemma you are in.

I am an architect and in Hyderabad there is no way anybody will even rent a flat unless it's vastu compliant.

Now, my stand is that I dont believe in it. But just as noopster has mentioned here there's no half measure for this problem.

It's a very similar situation like in old cartoons - 'What you dont see cant harm you'

Now that you have seen the problem, every problem, every trouble will get attributed to vastu. Unless you are extremely strong and are willing to take responsiblity and act accordingly.

Having lived in various parts of the world and being an architect, whenever I have moved into any flat/ house I have always checked the vastu of the place.

In fact, I have lived in a 100% vastu compliant house in London and led a paupers life - also lived in a 100% anti vastu compliant flat and led a king's life.

Now some might say, that as per my astrology and my wife's astrology that the anti-vastu house suits us.

See, once you get sucked in to this game, there's no turning back. There can be a million arguments against vastu as there might be a billion for it. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

I am sorry if I have added to your confusion rather than solving your problem. But that's my 2 pence.

Whatever your choice - all the best.

PS: If you require the rules/ tenets of vastu, I can PM/ email them to you.

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

Slightly off-topic.
A few years back when our company was going through a rebranding exercise, the finalised logo was taken to an astrology/vaasthu expert. He strongly suggested against it because the logo was enclosed in a circle. His reasoning was we will be going in circles and never grow upwards. I jumped in and quoted examples like BMW, benz, etc and got the experts opinion veteod.
Post the new logo, even the 2008 recession didn't stop our growth.

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

It is all in the mind , even after the house being perfect as per vastu, incase of any mishap or uneasy period everything will boil down to Vastu correction and et al. so there is no end to it .
My wife has been advised by some astrologer that i should always stay upward of 3rd floor to have a prosperous life ,now my wife is totally against us building a duplex house.I love gardens, dogs bcos of some quirky logic i have to compromise.

My belief is you should be comfortable at this place in terms of location , ventilation, neighborhood etc.

Even in my case ,my BIL was totally against we purchasing the current flat since it had west facing main door and was suggesting to consult astrologer to find suitability of the place for my stars .

I went ahead and purchased this place bcos the adjoining plot was a Corporation park and no one on earth would build a high-rise building, which will affect ventilation and privacy . If i had bought the east facing one ,ourselves and the next building family would have been peeping into each others homes , the distance is hardly 25-30 ft.

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

I have given up. I talked to my wife last night. I showed her all the comments on the thread and it looked like she was coming around. One hour later, it was back to the same. You cannot reason with someone who is scared. My friend has put a fear into her that if we move into that house, my health would be affected :| .
I cannot express how frustrated I am. I am the kind of person who would go and stay in a house if someone says that it is haunted, just to prove them wrong. I am against all kinds of superstition and it feels very frustrating that I have to give up on my dream house due to some stupid superstition.

Ok since you are not interested in the particular house. How about letting us know the details. Maybe one of us will pick it up instead.

PS: Show this to your wife somehow blanking out the PS. She might agree.

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

AFAIK Vaastu contributes greatly for harmony in the home, sense of well being, prosperity and financial status - of the Vaastu consultants!

My wife's uncle at B'lore, retired from HAL, has since become a Fengshui consultant and is reportedly doing much better now than when he was in service!

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

Do believe in vaastu to the extent that it has an ancient origin and has principles linked to nature and science.

Would follow it to an extent but not go out of the way to destroy something which is allright just to allign it to vaastu.

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

Our civilization survived and thrived for 1000+ years without this vaastu nonsense.

Unfortunately it has become a major epidemic nowadays and people scare you to the point that you feel you have to tow the line.

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

A link from wiki on vaastu to add to your misery!

Please read the first sentence which I quote here for your reference:

"Vastu shastra (vāstu śāstra, also vastu veda and vastuvidya, "science of construction", "architecture") is an ancient doctrine which consists of precepts born out of a traditional view on how the laws of nature affect human dwellings"

The inference for me from the above is, assuming it is a valid architectural doctrine, it was relevant at a certain point in time when human habitats had a different shape and complexion.

The problem today is, vaastu - giving it the benefit of doubt and assuming it was a credible architectural practice at one point - today has become the preferred occupational choice of those who do not find gainful employment elsewhere. Ok I am ready to be flamed!!!

Every bloody purohit and jyotshi has also become a vaastu expert!!

So please do not let yourself be sucked into this trap. If you are a believer, believe in the blessings of the almighty and do what your brain tells you is the sensible thing to do. If you are not a believer then all this stuff would not matter to you anyway!

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

After what happened ( the incident that made me start this thread ), whenever someone says Vaastu, my blood starts boiling and I have to control myself from shouting at that person . I control my anger and just ask them one question : "How come no one in the west or developed countries have never heard about Vaastu, but on an average they seem to be leading better lives us who live in vaastu compliant houses?"

Re: Do you believe in Vaastu ?

@Newpunter- I just re-read your old posts and something you said struck me-that you will never find another house like this again. Pardon me but that is defeatist thinking. Keep searching and you surely will. Regret is the worst of emotions- it will just suck the joy out of everything you do.

Harbouring such strong feelings against vaastu is counter-productive. Vaastu is a benign (pseudo-) science: it has a set of rules, some may call arbitrary, but for any belief system to work, it must be obeyed without question. Like I said before, either embrace it fully or not at all. In your case, since your family is sensitive to vaastu, I suggest you bite the bullet and focus only on vaastu-compliant residences from now on!

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Noopster. Indeed, after this incident last year, I was in a very bad mood for almost a month. It was only after I moved on from it that I realized that I was wasting my time and effort on something that is over and will not come back.
But I will not stop my fight against Vaastu. It is not as benign as you think. It is a scam that many people are using to fool innocent people. There is no logical reason to believe that changing the location of the kitchen will stop disputes between couples or that moving your bedroom to a different direction will improve your job prospects. It is a superstition, just like Astrology and instead of accepting it as science, we should start fighting it.
