I too want to invest in Quant but their Flexi cap Fund size is very less as compared to others. So not completely sure about it.

To which sector does Quant Quantamental fund belong to?
Will invest lump sum into it and not do SIP.
I would personally go with the following allocation:

UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund - Growth Option - Direct Plan - 25%
ICICI Prudential Nifty Next 50 Index Fund - Growth Option - Direct Plan - 25%
Nippon India Small Cap Fund - Growth Option - Direct Plan - 25%
Quant Quantamental Fund - Growth Option - Direct Plan - 25%

The first two funds would beat most large cap and mid cap funds, while also providing the safety of investing in leading large- and mid-cap companies. A small-cap fund is usually an absolute winner over a 15-20 year horizon.

The fourth option is valuable in my opinion because 'quantamental' funds combine the human experience and intelligence of fund managers with artificial intelligence and machine learning strategies to enhance fund performance. These are niche thematic funds that will take off quite quickly. Quant's Quantamental Fund is already doing really well, but do check them out thoroughly for your own satisfaction.

In the event you're still hesitant, I'd suggest replacing the Quantamental Fund with Quant Flexi Cap Fund - Growth Option - Direct Plan.

Hope that helped!

Your index fund combo is absolutely spot on, Large cap - Gives stability to portfolio, Mid & Small cap - Provides the potential for beating the market due to its high growth high risk nature.

The third fund though, I would prefer going for any US Index funds than an active one. This gives you some coverage in the US markets and a hedge towards USD vs INR.

Just my opinion though!

It does make sense to invest more widely. For instance, investing 5% in gold does have merit too. But I would prefer to allocate 5% from each of the four funds I've suggested to further diversification (including investing in US stocks), rather than replace any of the them

See below for a link to some good US ETF and index funds.

Not directly, but there are funds that invest in 8 big US players that are now betting big on AI (Alphabet, Amazon, AMD, ASML, Meta, Intel, Microsoft, and NVIDIA).

Mirae Asset NYSE FANG+ ETF has more than 50% exposure, while 3 other index funds have more than 33% (see https://www.valueresearchonline.com/...-to-ai-stocks/).

Among the active funds, Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund has around 16% exposure to them (one of the reasons I like it).

Do note that the %holding of overseas holdings is dropping over the years. While they have not sold any overseas asset, the rate of investment is reduced.

I have been actively investing in both Mirae Asset NYSE FANG+ ETF Fund of Fund and Parag Parikh FCF. But, Mirae has stopped taking SIP's in foreign funds since last month. Not sure if this has happened in other fund houses. I am currently looking for an alternative.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Posting some updates on the comparison made earlier, after adding some more categories. Few important notes:
1. These are subjective picks, some similar or better performing funds may not be in this list
2. Please use the image only for reference: it is valid only for the date written on it.
3. If a member intends to use this chart for taking investment decision, my humble request is that you do due diligence:
a. Open the links in the spreadsheet file and verify that it is the correct fund
b. Verify the fund rating as of current date
c. Use at your own discretion and risk .

The information is provided in good faith, however I do not gurantee 100% correctness of the data shown. If there are glaring mistakes please let me know so that I can correct it.

The spreadsheet work best as Google Sheet, so copy it to your Google Drive and open from there.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

For the purpose for investment education to my son, I am investing his saved money in the mutual funds which are purchased in my PAN. For him I have used new portfolio numbers so that his investment value can be seen isolated. Investment is in Mutual funds.

Now what I want an app on my son's mobile so that he can see value of his investment. I do not want to see him my complete portfolio of investment. So I am looking for an app where I can enter Mutual Fund transactions manually, which then Son can track independently.

I tried searching for an app but no success, all Apps require PAN linking and automatic fetching of holdings using PAN number.

Please check out the Google Sheet posted in the post quoted above. On the Summary tab you will find a dummy portfolio. Please study the formula in the NAV row. You will have to go to https://www.google.com/finance/?hl=en, search for your fund, and change the fund ticker "MUTF_IN:******". Apparently it is important to remove space after : colon. This Google Finance function will fetch live NAV value. On mutual funds running on SIP you will have to regularly update invested amount and allotted units.

This sheet works only from Google Drive. You can put the file in your son's Google Drive, or on your's and share read only link to him.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Hi Experts -

I have a question. How can I as an MF investor cross verify the stock holdings of a fund?
Not through what is published by the fund house, but how do we cross verify the actual holding? Probably through the stock exchange, etc.

And even if for example if stock exchange shows that ICICI Pru MF holds 1 million shares of HDFC Bank, how can I check what part of that 1 million is for the ICICI Bluechip fund.

Is there any way for this?

And the same for the bond and cash holdings.

Why don't you make an excel/google sheet and manually enter the transactions ? You can pull current stock price/nav automatically and it will display all info like amount invested, current value, profit in % etc. I have one for managing my entre portfolio of stocks, mutual funds & crypto apart from debt and assets that you need to maintain manually. The excel auto pulls nav/stock price/crypto price from authorized source. You can search on Youtube on how to prepare one or download a template. On Google Sheets its fairly easy and automated.

My Mutual Fund portfolio is giving great returns as of now. Following are the XIRR and fund diversification My entire equity is for long term goals only. I have a contingency fund having 6 months expenses and debt instruments for short term goals like expensive travels or purchases.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

I wanted to share something , not related to investment but a general observation.

I met one of my old colleague recently while I was taking a walk post lunch in the campus. We went to have coffee nearby. Conversation moved to investments and out of the blue she shared with me her portfolio ( I have no idea why).

She had 40 lakh investment with impressive profit of 20 lakh , so overall 60 lakh. When I asked her what's her debt ratio, she seemed to have no clue. She said it's managed by her uncle and I took a look, it was 100 percent equity. In a concerned tone, I informed her of the risks , as we are currently in a bull market. She said she will buy more if market crashes. I didn't discuss any further.

Reason I wanted to share this here is this same carefree attitude I see in reddit as well. Lot of new folks have a misconception about equity compounding. Personally it looks to me that youth are being misguided.

Or am I thinking too much with my "go by the book" approach of distributing your portfolio for down side protection.

There is nothing wrong with a 100% equity portfolio as long as it is not borrowed money and investments are not in penny stocks/shady businesses. As long as one is not near to their retirement stage and having enough income streams from salary or any other means, it should be okay to bet on good companies for a long period. Her PF and NPS(if there) will take care of the debt part.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Bhpians - I have been asking in multiple forums the same question repeatedly just so I am moving in the right direction. I know am taking a big step and want to be as accurate in this as possible.

I am in my early 40s and really want to look at a retirement in another 10 years, so want to go a little aggressive on my MF investment to build a solid corpus. I work in IT.

As of now, I do have a sizeable corpus spread over MFs (ELSS, Hybrid & Equity), I have ongoing monthly contribution in PF & VPF which I'll continue & also some cash lying in my bank account (more than required for my 6 months expenses). I also have a medical insurance to the tune of 50L cover which is active, to take care of any medical issues that could arise. I have no financial commitments (loans etc) more than 1L at the moment and don't intend to take any home / vehicle loans (might look at a vehicle lease for 2 years, vehicle costing less than 20L, but NOT a mandate to take this step)

I plan to invest a monthly SIP of 50K in total to start with (no lump sum) and may increase 20% Y-o-Y (haven't thought about it yet). Based on discussion with @SmartCat, have decided to go for 5 funds with 10K in each. Decided upon the Direct plan & Growth and will be investing on Coin platform (Zerodha).

I have looked through multiple portals to check the best performing funds over 5 years and 10 years across all categories and found below.

1. Should I move my bank savings to some private finance company as they give a 7.5% interest compared to 3% in major banks?

Suggest me the best 5-6 funds (1 for next year too ) please. If there are solid performing funds which are not part of this list, please add it as well.

7 Year Performance (credit to the original source ET Online)

Since you already have investments in MF, you can start your SIPs in the existing schemes. Tracking portfolio would be much easier.

2/3 equity funds are enough for one goal, but if you insist on 5 funds
1. Nifty 50 index fund, 40%
2. Nifty next 50 index fund, 15%
3. Nifty midcap 150 index fund, 15%
4. Any active smallcap fund, 15%
5. S&P 500/Nasdaq 100 index fund*, 15%

Point to point returns will have recency bias, so a much better way would be to look at rolling returns.

*Most AMC’s are not accepting new investments in international funds, but ETFs of the same can alternatively be bought through demat account.
