Also, is there any app which is better than ETMoney in terms of user interface and ease of use. I've seen Groww but didn't like it. The UI feels cluttered and the informations are not easily accessible. I don't like to invest directly through AMC's page as that would make me go to different AMC site and I like the consolidated portfolio view that fintech apps provide. So is there a better alternative to ETMoney that you guys use.
Have you tried MFCentral?
I don't use any of the investing apps on the phone, but going by the quality of their UI on the desktop, I can recommend MFCentral, and Zerodha.

Did ETMoney open a demat account? then you are tied to the app as you cannot redeem these investments using any other app.

Otherwise to invest in MFs in a non demat format I use MF Central.

I have MFcentral in my phone but never made any transaction through it. Didn't know it has a desktop app either. Surely I should try it.

No Etmoney didn't create any demat account. I think Motilal Oswal or those type of companies do that and you can buy only regular funds and not direct funds unlike Etmoney or Groww or MFcentral etc. I should give MFcentral a try now. I already had it in my phone but never used it for investing.

Groww does create a demat account. You can invest in direct funds too, just that you are then tied to that app like with equity shares.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Did anyone try doing lumpsum in UTI AMC today? Looking at the crash today, I went on a MF shopping spree but somehow UTI didnt allow me. Kept showing 'technical error'.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Is there any tool which can be used to compare mutual funds returns to a customized equity portfolio? I want to compare the returns of an equity portfolio that I have designed with a few mutual funds across a few trailing years that should be helpful in my future investment decisions.

Thanks.

A basic query:

What is the NAV considered when we place an order for a MF? Is it the NAV at the end of the day of the order placed or of the day when the order is actually processed?

Example: Market crashed on 4th June and if we placed an order on 4th June, then it will consider the NAV of 4th June or of the day when the units are credited? Asking because, the very next day, Markets recovered.

Normally it will take the NAV of the day if the transaction is done before 2:00 pm the very same day.

On platforms like Groww, if you place an order before the 2pm cut off then for most types of mutual funds you would get that days NAV.

I invest directly on AMC portals as you have a cutoff of 3PM to get the same day NAV.

So I did get NAV of 4th June itself. Units were allocated by 5th June early morning. UTI ofcourse had some issue, so I went with other AMCs that I invest in(HDFC for example).

That’s for 3rd party apps i guess. For AMC portals its 3PM as long as its not liquid fund.

Thank you for the clarification. Anyone is aware about Upstox policy? Like how one mentioned about Groww, the cut off is of 2 PM. I missed the bus as I was more focused on other numbers that day!

This was a widespread issue on 4th June, where many people invested before 2 pm in different apps like Coin, Groww etc and were expecting same day NAV, but due to some delay at clearing side, lot of them got NAV for 5th June( including myself), due to which they couldn't get units at lowest price. This has highlighted in many tweets.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Folks,

I have started recently a STP from a liquid fund to an equity fund. The liquid fund gets redeemed on say Day 1, whereas the purchase of the equity fund units happens on Day 2, the transactions in both cases are visible on Day 3. If this the normal process?

I use Moneycontrol portfolio management to track my investments. Is there any better option available as there are some issues I am facing with Money control such as:
1. There is no option to track the PF investments,
2. There is no option to track the monthly contributions to PPF investment.
3. There is no option to track STP transactions.
Should I opt for a paid subscription or any other PMS available?

If you are specifically asking about Money Control Pro subscription and if it provides options to track PF, no it does not. The primary difference (and a very significant one), is that you get research on some very good ideas, no ads and it you are in mobile, stock analysis insights for stocks in your portfolio.

I've been at the investing game for some time now and one thing that stands out is the fact that, there is no one tool that let's one track everything under the sun. But money control sure does come close. There used to be something called Perfios which has now shut down retail usage and has gone b2b. I'm closely following the Artos project that someone who has a similar vision is developing but not yet jumped into it.

Personally, I use money control and roll-my-own version of Google Sheets with tons of mathematics that serves my specific purpose. I do things like xirr, cumulative investments and roi over time, position sizing calculator and many more in sheets.
