The "Thumbing up a ride" thread.

I'm not sure if such a thread exists. I tried looking for it, but in vain.

Anyways, I guess the header gives away the purpose of this thread. But then again I'll explain as I am pretty much jobless right now.

So! It all started when I went online to book a flight ticket from Bangalore to Bhopal for diwali. Holy goodness! It's coming around 14K. It's a big number for a jobless guy. Checked train tickets, but I'm more of a Volvo guy. But will have to change two volvos to get to Bhopal. Then I thought maybe there's a BHPian who'll drive up to Bhopal during Diwali time. (Is there anybody?) My mind started hallucinating. Stopping here and there to click a picture. Stopping at dhabbas and restaurants mentioned in "Highway on my plate" book. Might even bump into Rocky and Mayur. You never know!

Back to reality now. Money will be paid for the share of fuel expenses, any break-downs etc. Separate payment for hotel and food bills. Proper behavior. The owner of the car and the hitchhiker can get to know each other before the journey commences and all the questions. Maybe someone here can come up with a questionnaire. Or everyone can contribute with what all one must know before giving a ride to the hitchhiker.

I'll start with

1. Name
2. Job/designation
3. Copy of DL
4. ______________
5. _______________

So who's heading toward Bhopal, Mumbai, Nagpur or Ahmedabad anytime soon?

Re: The "Thumbing up a ride" thread.

If there is someone to share my fuel bill, then I can give him a ride even if I have nothing to do where I'm going. . Of course, If time permits.

Jokes apart, a nice thread creative420. tbhp is a prestigious community so are its members. However, I would advise to know the other member real good before clubbing the trip. Even though we are like minded people, its more fun traveling with a known person.

btw, I travel Sulthan Bathery - Bangalore - Sulthan Bathery atleast once in two weeks.

I so agree. It's always more fun and safe to travel with people you know. I just thought that the car-owners can save some money on their fuel and well this might just help BHPians bond better, if they start tripping (no pun intended) together.

I was also searching for such a thread for a very long time. I hope it becomes one busy thread so more and more BHPians get to travel together.

Awesome! And how many empty seats? I'm sure Bangalore-Mysore route will surely find some takers.

Re: The "Thumbing up a ride" thread.

Mods. can you shift this thread to Route/Travel Queries section. I guess it'll be more apt there. Also can you change the header to "The Long-Distance Carpooling Thread"?

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

I travel to Mysore almost every weekend, if not once every 15 days.

But now, considering the petrol price hike, I will have to relegate to using public transport :(
