Hi

Saw your post on the below thread.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/shift...thread-87.html (Home Construction / Makeover / Maintenance Thread)

A simple easy solution is to temporarily block the flow of water and then, break about half feet of plastering around the affected area. Use a normal welder from any road side shop to do a quick weld on the hole. Any stick welder (arc welder) can do this for you.

As long as the pipe is iron (GI pipes are iron, do a simple magnet test) arc welding will fix it for sure.

The prices are lesser than wooden ones. The feedback in general is good. To me, it looks like a no-brainer. However, if it's so good, why most people on a budget don't go with them and instead go for wooden ones?
I am exploring this as well. Has anyone here got a steel kitchen installed? A feedback would be great to have.

What I have heard is that it's like glass, hence if you keep something hot on it directly then it will break. So stick to granite in my opinion.

PS: I have never used it so don't have a first hand experience.

I have installed Godrej Interio wardrobes in the bedroom. It has been 2 years and there are no issues. The best part was the installation. It took just a couple of hours and there was no drilling involved. The interiors are customizable and you can make changes at a later date, which I think is not feasible in the case of the wooden wardrobes.
Having said that, I am not sure if I will go for metal cupboards in the kitchen though. I am guessing that there could be more wear and tear and scratches and dents.

Thanks. This is enough. I am going for it.

For the kitchen, it's the carcass that is made of steel. For the pull-outs, we can opt for wooden ones.

Can you please also guide which store branch did you opt for?

I got it from their main store in Kasturba road. Only the order processing happens at the store, everything else is through their warehouse.

re: Home Construction / Makeover / Maintenance Thread

I have a query regarding waterproofing house from inside. I live in a rented row house, build quality is not very great. In the last November, when it was raining hell, I found about severe water leaking problem with house. Water was literally running down the wall in stream. Post that I talked with the owner and got the waterproofing done on the outside.
My question is do I need to do the insides as well? There are cracks along the walls from where water was coming in. Also the white putty on the walls has come loose. If I press it, it moves or even falls on its own. What would be solution for this? Do I have to get the house repainted and get the cracks sealed?

We had done that the last time the building was painted at our own cost and it made a difference so we want to do it again this time.
We used Damp Proof from asian paints, the other major manufacturers have similar products as well.
This is a rubbery paint, that acts like a water proof cladding. It has been 3 years since we applied it, the dampness issues are by and large addressed. Only flip side is the surface can puncture (ex: on some spots, our dog decided to scrape the paint), this can be addressed by painting over the patch.

The application process is straight forward and can be done by any painter- clean the surface and paint 2-3 coats as recommended. Note that for slightly larger cracks, the cracks need to be opened up and filled with a crack filler.

There are couple of Indian good quality brands as well which are location specific. Ex Madhu Industries in Bagalore or Aparna vennister however as you need only 1 window not worth hunting around and checking quality.
I will be renovating my ground floor house in Bangalore soon and we all would be moving out the the 1st floor.

I'm looking to soundproof the windows in the road side hall/room.
  1. Is there any other good brands in Bangalore that make good uPVC, aluminum or wood windows. (@amitk26's post is close to 2 years old. )
  2. I think for sound proofing, we would need to avoid aluminum since metals can conduct sound better. Is this correct?
  3. When we do install a uPVC or an aluminum frame window, can we install a metal grill for security later?
After reading about sound proofing windows (https://www.doorwindowbasics.in/2019...-in-india.html), I'm planning to go with Tilt and turn type windows.

2000rs per sqft? For a 7'×3' door it would cost rs 42,000. Double check the price and get a quote from few other places.

1. Not true. Metal conduct heat, not sound. Metals, because of their high density, are very good at blocking sound. Please note that blocking and absorbing sound are very different subjects. You need to block outside noise, so metal will serve your purpose. However a very thin and flimsy aluminium frame will not suffice. Both for structural rigidity and sound isolation, choose thick and sturdy aluminium frames.

2. Should be possible. You can even have the grill independent of the window frame.
