You can find them, most of them do these things. It's just that you have to closely monitor them and provide them enough time. I trusted my interior guy and realized later that the trust was misplaced. Basics like electrical point shifting were not done correctly.

You can budget approx. 2K per sqft. for a basic studio farm house. My brother got one done in the outskirts of Chennai for 1850 per sqft. Any fancy materials will be on top of that.

I am surprised. Most of the bigger interior guys ( including HomeLane and LivSpace ) will have a good designer. Just ask for them. You may have to pay them separately for the services. They will help you coordinate everything in your home from color/design of walls and wardrobes, curtains, lighting, furniture and everything inbetween. Some will also do interior and garden plants as well.

They usually work with you taking your inputs on lifestyle, hobbies, color preferences, etc. The downside is the designs sometimes "look" great, they dont "work" great. If you are not careful, you will end up with more of form over function.

But I am looking for an Interior Designer who understands my requirements, abstract thoughts, lifestyle, crazy ideas and then translate it to a Design. This should includes minute details like recommendations on decor/artifacts,curtains all the way till shades of paint, wardrobe design and artistic elements. The interior designer should be able to fill the gap of my lack of creativity
I'm in the same boat as you are. I was able to reach some of the individual designers who are ready to consider end to end interiors, but their work and timelines are not convincing. And most of the corporate (read livspace kind of people here) designers work based on their existing designs and expect to choose something from there. Market is flooded with interior designers but most of them just work like carpenters. While I'm still looking for one, you can checkout Aantrik Home Interiors. They have some designers who are ready to work with custom end to end interiors.

Good Luck!

Check out the Humble Carpenter team. They are on Instagram and other social media sites. They can be reached out directly and they do a good job of the understanding customer requirements and bringing it to reality.

Re: Home Construction / Makeover / Maintenance Thread

Someone I know lives in a rented accommodation . There is a problem of seepage on one of the bedroom walls and the paint chips off regularly. All efforts to identify the source & prevent the seepage have failed.

They have decided to no longer invest on repair, but "hide" the seepage. What is the most cost-effective way, if any, to make the wall look better? Can it be covered with something that will last?

PS: Changing the house is not an option.

Re: Home Construction / Makeover / Maintenance Thread

Guys,
Looking for recommendations for a contractor who can take up interior renovation works. Should be able to take a lead on electrical, carpentry, plumbing and paint works. Anyone that you have worked with and are happy to recommend, please let me know. I’ll be going through this thread, but just putting this out.

The least expensive long term solution is to call a seepage specialist and inject chemicals in a 1 meter grid. That will seal the wall against seepage.

Thank You. Will this work even if we have not been able to identify the source of the seepage? Almost half the wall is covered in seepage.

Since you are in Delhi do you know of some specialist who can do this in Rohini?

This will make the wall impervious, but if the leakage source is some where else, then it will appear after some time (say ceiling, other wall etc). A good waterproofing contractor can analyse and advise you after examining the site.

Best bet is to search online. Manufacturers of water proofing compounds can also help identifying suitable contractors.

The leakage is definitely somewhere else. I think they have tried prevention to the best of their abilities hence the decision to just hide it.

What can it be covered with? Will wall panels work?

Re: Home Construction / Makeover / Maintenance Thread

Off late there has been this concept of eco friendly houses / villas / bungalows. I am keen to look at any contractors / architects to see how well they can design and execute a project of a minimalistic design and amenities.

The idea is to live there in a couple of years from now. I have travelled to Kochi / Kerala / Guwahati / Shillong / some part of Bangalore even and the houses that we come across in these regions and over Social Media are just jaw dropping.

How expensive these are is something only an expert or someone who has built these would know?

Do share (PM/DM) incase you are in the know of anyone who can be looked at for a project keeping the eco / natural habitat concept in mind.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Home Construction / Makeover / Maintenance Thread

Dear Members,
I have to decide between Berger and Asian paint solutions for waterproofing of terrace. There are a few <1mm cracks on terrace, that allow water seepage during very heavy downpours.

I have to decide between Berger PU Roofkoat and Asian paints dampproof ultra. Both offer similar warranty and temparature reduction.
Please share your experiences of using either one.

If you are talking about houses sporting a vernacular architecture they are usually 10 to 20% more expensive than normal. That's been my experience with our house. What I would suggest is to pick some houses you like and find out the builder/architect. That's what we did. DMimg you the name of the architect.
