Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

Hi,

I have a Jazz Select edition bought last May and also a Swift Diesel (Sep 2007).

I've done approx. 9100 kms and I can vouch for this car. FE is between 11 - 13.5 kmpl in city. On the Highway I get between 16 - 18.4 kmpl.
Worst I've got on the highway is 13.75kmpl when I did very spirited driving, touching 110kmph in third gear.

I would suggest you go with the Jazz, you'll love it.

If you would like to talk to me, pm and I'll share my contact and we can talk.

What I like
1. Extremely smooth. Fatigue is more in my Swift.
2. All round visibility.
3. Huge amount of space for people, things. Infact you tend to keep things in the car forget and think you've lost them.

Drawbacks
1. Highways - Lack of acceleration. You need to downshift, revv the engine to generate power.
2. Inside the City - ground clearance is bad. You end up scraping bumps quite often.

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

The Toyota etios though a great product, is not as well built as the jazz IMO. In fact many feel the jazz is better built than even the Honda city.
also the jazz has that feel good factor which is somewhat lacking in the etios.
the etios is more like A to B transport, whereas the jazz definately has more sense of occasion. if you take the honda city as the benchmark, i would say the jazz is closer to it than the etios.
These are my personal views.
My vote goes to the Jazz!

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

My vote goes to the Etios VX purely for the VFM quotient but looks like you have already finalized on the Jazz. Good luck.

The Jazz is a better looking car with modern styling while Etios is plane Jane conservative. The Jazz stands out in the crowd while the Etios will soon become a common sight on the roads.

Engine-wise, the Etios has better low end torque and should perform better in the city. I had a chance to check out the Etios VX version and found nothing bad about the interiors. They were pretty decent for a car priced at around 8L. Most of this talk about poor interiors of the Etios must be specific to the entry level J and G variants. The VX looked more than acceptable in terms of interiors. Even the door closing thud and boot shut noise was on par for a 8L rupee car.

I need not talk about the interior space. Its well known that both Etios and Jazz have oodles of cabin space.

You might get the Jazz delivery the same day while the Etios is sure to have a long lead time.

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

Thanks all for your great advices! I finally booked Jazz a few days back. Registration will be on Mar 31st, and delivery a couple of days later.

The offer I got was 55k off + back and side sunfilms + reverse parking sensors. I plonked on some accessories, and I got some discount on that too, but the reverse parking sensor was dropped.

Can't thank this forum enough for helping me decide!

Congratulations. I did not see this thread but totally agree with all the +ves written about the Jazz. I have compared it side by side to the City and it is a truly amazing car. The attention to detail during design is simply phenomenal. Have fun ...

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

Saw the thread today.Found it very informative. Suhas307 and Adimicra have said everything I would have liked to say since I also own a Jazz since Jan 2010. I would also reaffirm that I have not found any faults with the gear shift or the pick up and I have been driving this and other cars for quite some time now to know the difference/ problems , if any.So congrats on taking a decision which I think more people should be taking!

Only petrol big hatch which matches Jazz on FE is Swift/Ritz.
U don't have to believe me - check the TBHP reviews or AutoCar road test data.

This is my first post, so please excuse any indiscretions.

I've read up almost every thread in Team-bhp on Toyota Etios and Honda Jazz X. Still can't decide between the two - hence this SOS

Situation is that I booked Toyota Etios on Dec 3rd itself. However, reading up the threads here has now given me a massively premature buyer's remorse (or should that be booker's remorse? )

My main considerations are:
- Lower running and maintenance costs
- Interior space including luggage space and fit-and-finish
- Most importantly, lower TCO (total cost of ownership - this includes the resale price say, three years from now).

Given that the Etios is not yet on the roads, what would be your take on this issue? If the re-sale market (or availability of spares and/or service) for Jazz is going to go south due to the introduction of Brio, I'd rather definitely NOT go for it at any cost now.

Thanks a lot in advance!

PS: The Honda dealer in Bangalore is offering me only some 26k off for the Jazz X. If it were 55k as mentioned in other threads here, my decision would have probably been in favour of the Jazz X.
Welcome on board mate! The good ol hatch vs sedan scoop Love it!

Regarding your purchase, if I were you, I would go the extra mile and get the Jazz select. I dont need a USB, height adjustable seat and other extras. As far as the Etios goes, well its incomparable on terms of quality when it stands against the Jazz, the Jazzy being so well equipped and ominous road presence, despite it not selling well, whenever you see one, its like wow! Its a different question when you want a cheap sedan, then Etios it is, but do you want to wait for 6-8 months for the delivery?? Think of it.

Jazz has premium quality interiors, has a bullet proof Honda engine, so running costs are low, interior space is awesome and resale value of Honda will always be good in India. Am just vouching for the Jazz instead of the City because I found the interiors and overall build quality much better than the ANHC. Doesnt get the 1.5 motor, but the 1.2 is a gem of an engine.

Balls in your court, my verdict: Jazz up your life, Jazz all the way

PS: oops! didnt see your booking words COngrats man. Awesome purchase, post some pictures and initial drive impressions.

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

Congrats!
One thing I can surely tell you. You may feel you may have gone against the the tide by getting a Jazz, seeing its sales charts.

But believe me, there is nothing like owning what you want and enjoying it to the core.

When I got a 8.3L top of the line Fusion 6 years back, people said I was crazy not buying the then newly released NHC. But even after 6 years, the car still lits a smile on my face,

I guess you just need to see the value, you are looking from your car and then go all out for it.
Jazz is awesome piece of machinery. Take good care of it and it would serve you well.

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

The Jazz is a great decision. I agree with the opinion shared by a couple of others here; what matters is what your needs are in terms of owning a car for traveling from point A to B or if you want to shell out the extra dough for the comforts on offer. Whether these added comforts are VFM or not is a purely subjective and personal opinion and there is no point flogging a dead horse again.
If this were my choice to make, I most probably would have reached the same decision as yours. The Jazz is a wonderfully built car and offers tons of space. It also has the proverbial snob value and attracts attention, something which I dont think the Etios does. Though, in a way even the Nano attracts a lot of questions from curious people.
IMHO, it is more an apples: oranges comparison but I understand where you are coming from as I have a similar issue (Punto/ Manza diesel v Jazz petrol). Just my 2 cents worth
I wish you many a safe mile with your Jazz, I am sure you will be pleased with your decision every time you pass an Etios (no offence meant!) Better to be this way than to be unhappy in an Etios while passing a Jazz!

Absolutely, many a times its better to follow the heart. rather than the head which keeps overcalculating. And as @ampere says from experience. I am sure that a couple of years down the line, you will be glad that you chose the Jazz.

Re: Toyota Etios VX or Honda Jazz X?

Thank you all for your great advices! My car was delivered on April 8. Have attached some pics below. Highlights:

=> The staff at Whitefield Honda was just amazing. Right from when I requested for a test-drive in January, through the booking, registration, finance, delivery, and post-delivery follow-up, every one on the staff oozed professionalism. Kudos to them!

=> I wanted the car to be registered by Mar 31st, since VAT was to go up April onwards. Even though I applied early for the car loan, the showroom-recommended ICICI Bank dragged their feet, and I finally had to go to Kotak myself who made it possible.

=> The car itself is superb At delivery I was explained that the engine was pre-run-in. Within 48 hours, I had touched 160kmph on the Bangalore-Mysore NICE road (tollway) with 5 adults on board! It looked like it could do some more more, but unfortunately there was traffic. Even at that speed, the car was rock-stable, and the engine hardly groaned! Am planning BLR-HYD-BLR next weekend. Ground clearance IS an issue (as the underside of my car will probably amply show), but it's not as bad as in the Honda City, I believe.

=> Price: Got the standard 55k discount from the company, plus free side and back sunfilms (LLumar), perfume and idol (which I didn't install), and side-step garnish (LED-lit JAZZ thingy in the photo below - it is part of the Jazz Mode kit) from the dealer. Front windshield sunfilm (LLumar), 3M paint protection, and front fog lights were charged in full. If I didn't go for the accessories, the free offer from the dealer would have "downgraded" to reverse parking sensor instead of side-step garnish.

=> One small doubt I have (still not confirmed with dealer - not sure I will do too) is that I remembered the salesman had told the insurance premium was 22k, but the policy I received mentions the premium as 18k.

Would like to end by again thanking this forum for helping me make the decision. All your advices have indeed been very, very helpful.

ThanQQQQ!!!!

Congratulations Mr. Shenoy!

Welcome to the Jazz club! It's a wonderful place where only owners of the Jazz appreciate the true value and ability of the car. The rest, according to me, are rather ignorant, if I may say so.

I see that you've chosen the same set of accessories that we had selected for our Deep-Sapphire-Blue Jazz. The red is a quirky colour and makes sure that your car stands out of the crowd.

The Jazz is the sort of car one would buy with the heart, at least in our market. The decisions you make with your heart are the ones that put the widest grin on your face, and according to me, that's what matters the most. Yes, the i20 would have been the ideal choice, a car you'd buy with your head. But the Jazz will never cease to amaze you.

The best part of the car is that everyday, you will discover something interesting and intriguing.

Congratulations once again, do give us the low-down by starting another thread. Take care and drive safe! And don't forget to buckle-up! The Jazz will remind you!
