Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

Hi, based in Mumbai currently driving a Honda Amaze 2020 CVT which I bought 1 year back. First car was WagonR (new) and had to sell it off as it got damaged while my society was being repainted.

I have got a new job recently that pays well which also means I will be meeting a lot of influential people and sometimes may have to ride with them. Although I like my amaze, its still not refined. There are body noises and somehow the dashboard feels like its in the face when I am sitting. I am 5'6 and if someone even 5'9 sits its very uncomfortable.

I was searching for a used Mercedes and test drove GLA, C200; the Taigun, Kushaq, Creta, etc but nothing excited me or made me smile. Where I live (South Mumbai) the roads are filled with Mercedes, Audi and BMW cars so I wanted something unique. I don't know about others, but I love the CVT on my Honda amaze, I have learned how to avoid the rubber band effect and get instant torque. The engine sound makes me smile and if driven with a light foot, it can become a good chauffeur car too. Many doctors in my area have it.

One day while browsing randomly thinking let me see if I can get an Elevate (my parents want an SUV) in the used car market - I saw a Civic ZX CVT 2020 model with 40k on the odometer. It's a Honda Certified used car with 1 year warranty. It was used to ferry the top people in RBI in Mumbai, MH01 number. Because it's registered with RBI it can be transferred to my LLP without any cost - I save a couple of lakhs and have other company benefits. Within an hour of seeing it online, I called them and went to the dealer. Drove it and it was like love at first site. The materials, all soft touch, stitched leather, lane watch camera, huge wipers, front sensors (didn't expect this), reverse camera, electronic parking, dual zone climate control and a sunroof - all in around 13 lakhs! by spending 50k more I can get Honda extended warranty till 2027. The Honda guys told me that I just need to replace the tires as they are worn out at 40k otherwise everything is good and that's why they giving 'certified' tag and 1 year warranty. My thinking is that with this, I don't have to worry about uniqueness - not many Civics around and this is a D1 segment car which looks cool and I won't have to upgrade to a Mercedes or similar for the next 5 years at least and save the maintenance and headache that comes with the Germans.

I have read other posts with a checklist - I am just too excited and have booked the car, but want your opinion whether this is a good deal or something I have to be careful about.

re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

13L for a ~4 year old, single owner, Civic ZX CVT is a steal! If it is in good condition, you can definitely go for it as it is the best upgrade from an Amaze CVT

However, you need to keep in mind the maintenance cost which is going to be significantly higher than the Amaze, also the FE figures are going to be much lesser. Hence I would suggest you go for the additional warranty as Honda parts are not cheap! If you plan to keep the car for long, you need to keep in mind that sourcing the parts are not going to be very easy and it might take time as Honda did not manage to sell a lot of Civics and hence the workshops might not have spares ready.

However, if your heart says Civics, go for it as the driving experience is worth it and it definitely is a special car!

Coincidentally even I had glanced through this car on Shaman's olx page and quite liked the car. What put me a bit off was the visible scratches on front left fender and I was surprised they put it up for sale without refurbishment. Hope they fix it before you get the car.

There are few more Civic's up for sale in the similar price range so I suggest you check those as well if you have made up your mind on a Civic. Atleast test drive a few of them to compare with your booked car. I would always advise to get it from Shaman though unless you get a really good civic elsewhere. Also do not skip on extended warranty but use the other Civic listings to your advantage and try to settle at 13 lakhs with extended warranty.

If you are after exclusivity, do check few camry's as well at Toyota U-Trust. All the best and don't forget to share your post delivery experience whichever way you decide to go.

Hi Camitesh, thanks for your thoughts. They are giving me after repainting everything, the left fender has minor scratches. The spare tire is totally unused. I don't trust anyone outside Shaman/Honda certified so I don't think I will test drive any other cars. Also possibility of getting a Civic which is company registered is next to none. And this being an RBI officer car I think its safe to assume that it is taken care of as I had civil servants in my family and their cars were well taken care of. And yes I will be buying the extended 7 year warranty from Hond. My running is low mostly from Haji Ali to BKC max via the sea-link. I checked out Toyota U-trust but to be honest I think the Camry is more like a nice refined car that perhaps my dad can drive. I have some youth left in me to have some fun before it all goes away

re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

Thanks! They will repaint and give it new tyres before delivery. Camry feels old school to me, I have some youth left so Civic it is. I will take extended warranty for sure now! Thanks for the suggestion. And ya I am not seeing any other cars except Shaman as I don't have trust and I don't think its easy to find a company registered car - that too a govt or a good big company one very easily. I couldn't find any Civic for 13L in multiple websites with 2020 year and ZX variant - mostly were priced at 14.5+. I didn't even look at Ola as I have heard many horror stories with my friends. Hence searched only Spinny and Honda. Spinny is extremely overpriced and no Civic as far as I can remember.

re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

The only issue with Civic is, the weak 140hp engine. At 11.3 secs to 100 it feels very slow even when floored. Do check out Camry’s from 2017-18, you’ll get good examples around the same budget. It pushes 200hp and hits 100 in 8.5 secs flat, nearly a 4 second difference which is massive and is really felt.

Also you get a much more refined cabin experience with better NVH and a plusher ride. Only consider low mile, single owner cars and check thoroughly by having the local Toyota dealer inspect it. It’s a little soft when really shoved into a corner, but so is the Civic.

re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

I had seen the car parked there when I had visited recently. There is also an Hybrid Accord in the background

I had considered the Civic when purchasing a sedan. Few things which I did not like:

- Build quality is not good. The Germans have a better build.
- It is not fun to drive, in terms of acceleration. I had driven a Civic and Octavia, back to back. The Civic felt slow, while the Octavia was more fun.

Why you should consider this car:

- If you are only concerned about the maintenance, get it. It will be less troublesome with the warranty.

- It is quite unique.

- The seller is an authorised arm of Honda.

Having said that, if you do go ahead:

- Get the car inspected at Honda below.

- Get the full service history, before proceeding.

- if you have any niggles, get them resolved before the delivery, and keep them in writing. If it is a small thing, they often forget and then eventually have to follow up.

re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

You cant go wrong with a used Civic and more se if it is from the used car division of a reputed dealer. This car looks good and price seems fair too. As mentioned by everyone just get the maximum warranty on the car and enjoy atleast a decade of fuss free motoring. Spares will be expensive but so were those of the previous gen Civic that I owned. That said it wont need more than your routine sevrices to keep it running well

Sure the car isnt really performance oriented but seeing your Haji-Ali BKC commute I think you should be happy with the way it drives. It is quite loaded too and looks like a million bucks. Plus its white, a favourite colour on the Civic.

Try and get the red Mugen badges for the car, they will look awesome.

I always wanted to replace my 2012 Civic with a used one like this and I was very clear about it. But then the Thar happened.

Good luck for your purchase

Re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

Great car & great price! Do keep in mind that, while the extended warranty will cover you till 2027, Honda also has "Anytime Warranty" that goes to 10 years. More information here - https://www.hondacarindia.com/honda-...ducts/warranty.

Go for it, this Civic seems to suit your requirements to the T. And the best part is, you are getting a truly global sedan at the price of a fully-loaded Hyundai i20 AT.

Pre-worshipped cars rock

Re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

A company owned car means several drivers will have been driving the car. On the other hand if Honda is willing to give a 1 year warranty which can be extended till 2027 then it should be good. Ask them the details of the warranty on paper and see what exact parts are covered. See if electricals, engine mounts etc are also covered. Make sure the insurance history is clean and that there are no incidents with the car. Have a look at the entire service history from Honda with the odo readings. Do not skip this. Most cars have their odo tampered. I have been at the receiving end of this crime.

Good luck with the purchase. As an eight gen ex-Civic owner I am myself tempted. Shaman auto seems close to where I live .

Re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

I’ve been driving a Honda City for many years and can vouch for its reliability and durability. At this price, the Civic is a real steal—definitely go for it along with the maximum extended warranty. The only drawback might be its low-powered engine.

As others have mentioned, you should also check out the Camry, especially a hybrid model, though finding a good one can be challenging. The Camry is exclusive, premium, a joy to drive, offers a smooth ride, and is known for durability, excellent resale value, good after sales and reliability. What more could you ask for?

The warranty covers all parts. It is 'Platinum Warranty' as per them. Post the 1 year warranty I plan to go with the 10 year anytime warranty of Honda. Plan to keep the car for the next 7 years till the warranty exists.

Sweet deal. The DSG on my rapid gave out a couple of years ago and for my yearly mileage I decided I could not drive European cars anymore with their service issues. I would have loved to get a civic but none were available in the used car market so got a 5th Gen City that I'm very happy with. It's a fantastic car at a fantastic price for the next 7 years. Wish you many happy kilometres with it.

For the Civic, let me warn you that the parts availability is a huge issue.

My friend had a windshield crack. They took a month to get a new windshield!

Re: Used 10th-gen Honda Civic ZX CVT Petrol | Thoughts and things to keep in mind

Go for it, it's really a remarkable car, something I am planning to get in the next 1-2 yrs once I get the parking issue sorted, till then the Jazz will serve.

Parts availability for any discontinued Honda will be an issue, however, wear related parts should not be that much of an issue. Another line of thinking is that if you really want something that stands out on the road and is unique, parts' availability is not likely to be ideal and this should not be the deal-breaker too.

In your place, I would take this wonderful machine and plan for a stand-in/beater car within the next couple of years or maybe even sooner as per pocket/parking scenario.
