Re: Best Diesel engine in India

With the advent of electronics into the engine bay, i consider all current generation diesel engines not so reliable, especially in the long term(10+ year periods).

IMHO, these are the diesel engines i consider the best in India.

Trax / Force OM616 : Bullet proof reliability with decent FE.
Toyota 2.4D in the qualis: Lakhs and lakhs and more lakh kms.
Matador 305. : Still powers those Ambys around.
Peugeot TUD5: All rounder, a bit noisy.
Ford endura DE: Slow, but indestructible. Timing belt job a must at 50k.
Tata 3.0L 407 engine in the Sumo: Sweet sounding, now in Turbo avatar.

And of course, the tractor engines in the Mahindra stable, mainly the MDI 3200 series.

Re: Best Diesel engine in India

how come no one mentioned the new Cruze's FAM Z 2.0L motor?? Best diesel engine I've driven so far for the price!! True torque monster which is a relentless performer.

Elantra : A stonker. The elantras real strength.
Toyota innova : Very refined. Adequate power.
Ford Fiesta : Again very refined. But runs out of breath fast.
Merc 220 / 280 : Live bombs!
I would like to add my Yeti's power plant, the Skoda 2 litre TDi CR to this list.
It belts out 140bhp with no fuss at all. When one accelerates in second gear one is literally thrown back against one's seat!
It is also phenomenally fuel efficient, consistently returning 13+ and even 14kmpl in city use with AC on all the time and a mind-boggling 18-19 even, on the highway - as per my own personal experience.
The driving experience with that immensely feel good Skoda Growl, is, to me, quite as good as the finest chamber music I can tell you.
Its an excellent engine in an excellent vehicle...

Did you change your belt? Goes on to show that even the best fail!
