Hyderabad Puttaparthi Road Route and Present Road Conditions

After having failed to find a thread or threads which would have guided me to understand which is the best road route from Hyderabad to Puttaparthi and also on the present road conditions, I am starting a new thread devoted to :

(1) Road route from Hyderabad to Puttaparthi

(2) Present road conditions

On Google maps, I find that the following are the road routes :

(1) This involves turning off NH7 and going via Dharmavaram (the default route suggested by Google maps) National Highway 7 to Unknown road - Google Maps

(2) This involves turning off NH7 later at Gutturu (though it adds 4 km extra distance to the above route but it helps stick more distance on NH7) National Highway 7 to Unknown road - Google Maps - however, road condition between Gutturu and Puttaparthi needs to be investigated

(3) This involves turning off NH7 just before Penukonda (though it adds 21 km extra distance to the first suggested route but it also helps stick more to NH7 apart from it finding a mention in one travelogue on Team BHP) National Highway 7 to Unknown road - Google Maps

Thanks in advance for guidance, advise and tips!

GO on NH7 till Penukonda and then divert to the left for Puttaparthi.Road is in excellent condition.

Since this is the road taken by all the Blore people and always sees quite a lot of traffic, the road is always well maintained.

Re: Hyderabad Puttaparthi Road Route and Present Road Conditions

Penukonda,Puttaparthi and Dharmavaram form a triangle. While going to Puttaparthi from Bangalore I have noticed many buses taking off for Dharmavaram from Puttaprathi, without going to Penukonda.

So I am guessing that the Dharmavaram-Puttaprathi road should be good/decent. There would be good inflow of traffic from Dharmavaram to Puttaprathi. But I have not been through that route.

Please note:

- Since you would be coming from Hyderabad side, the turn to Puttaprathi from Penukonda (if you choose to take that route) would be on your left.
- Initially many folks coming from Bangalore have missed this turning.
- So folks found out landmarks while coming FROM Bangalore (Turning is about 2-3 km from Raxa Academy while coming from Bangalore. Raxa academy is on the left while coming from Bangalore).
- At least of late there is Sai Baba board on the turning for folks coming from Bangalore on the NH7.
- I hope you can spot this board as it would be opposite to your direction. If you see Raxa Academy on your right, be confirmed that you have missed the turning.

- Similarly I am hoping there would a signboard/indication from Dharmavaram about turning to Puttaprathi itself. (Since I have NOT driven from that side I am not sure).

As ampere rightly suggest, turn only after Penukonda as it is a fantastic road. Don't turn anywhere as you will find some sign boards before Penukonda as well.

Ranjit : The Penukonda turn-off is not the one taken by Bangalore people. People coming from Bangalore take a right turn 3/5km after Raxa Academy which makes it 35/40km before Penukonda - or so say the maps.

Thanks Fauji.

See the map below :

Hyderabad Puttaparthi Road Route and Present Road Conditions-puttaparthiroute.jpg

The "Blue" marking is the route from Bangalore (with a right turn 3/5km after Raxa Academy). The distance on the 2-lane road after the turning is 35km. If we do not turn right and continue straight on NH7, Penukonda is 34km.

The "Purple" marking shows the route via Penukonda. This route will have me doing 29km on a 2-lane road.

The "Black" marking shows the route via Gutturu. This route will have me doing 24km on a 2-lane road.

The "Green" marking is the standard Hyderabad-Puttaparthi route (the bus route) via Dharmavaram. This route will have me doing 43km on a 2-lane
road.

Any more pointers?

Re: Hyderabad Puttaparthi Road Route and Present Road Conditions

I just reached Blore and noted the puttaparthi turn points for you.Travelling from Hyderabad, after Penukonda bypass, travel for exactly 30kms and you would see huge direction boards for a left turn off for Puttaparthi. Puttaparthi is exactly 43kms from this point.I asked people on the road conditions and they advised road is in good conditions and well marked. This is apparently the same right turn after Raxa academy as well.

Btw new toll gates have come up and the drive to Bangalore now costs approx 400rs.There are two new toll booths each costing INR 70 & INR75(one at Gooty and one before that as well) each and theres one coming up at Bangalore airport flyover as well.

Thanks Ranjit.

I am still hoping to get some information for the turn at Gutturu (this is around 11 km after Penukonda from Bangalore towards Hyderabad) and also for the turn via Dharmavaram.

You just don't have to worry on road conditions. NH7 anyway is excellent. The road to Puttaparthi from Penukonda deviation as suggested is also in excellent condition. Enjoy and ride safe.

Thanks Fauji. The drive plan had to be postponed/cancelled as present situation does not warrant my presence there. Hope that circumstances in June/July are conducive for the trip.

Well, looks like the situation there at Puttaparathi has changed forever.

R.I.P.!!!
