re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

It was a diffent kind of misery on Thursday 28.04.2011 on the Highway. But this time it was caused by nature's fury. Just look at the photographs. Amazing that we drove without getting into trouble.

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

Anybody tried Malavalli to Nanjangud through T.Narsipura? Seems the road near Talakkadu as well and drivable at the least. This is an enquiry for someone wanting to cover Talakkadu, T.Narsipura and Nanjangud on a pilgrimage trip.

I did, but in two different times - Nanjangud - T.Narasipura once and Malavalli-Talakadu another time.

Malavalli-Talakadu: Road is good, though single till you reach Handpost. From Handpost to Talakadu the road is very good.

Talakadu-T.Narasipura: The road is very good.

T.Narasipura-Nanjangud: This is a decent road, with some good stretches and wider parts, interspersed with smaller and bad patches. But it is very scenic (lush green paddy fields in season, but even otherwise has a good green cover as it runs almost parallel to kapila river). Easily doable and no worries.

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

I was shooed away from Adigas and Lokaruchi by the watchmen while driving from Mysore last Saturday, the crowd in those joints is just unbelievable, its like people were falling over each other to get in and what not.

Kadambam is like an oasis in the desert, clean, warm, good service, small and warm food and clean washrooms.Adigas washroom-less said the better(looks like they never thought that they would need to factor in a washroom when they were constructing the place)

My preferred break places are Kamat Madhuvan(both ways), Kadambam (towards Mysore+) and Indradhanush (towards Bangalore). Kamat Madhuvan is suited more on a location convenience and Kadambam more on food and service(good for just an early morning coffee too). Indradhanush is preferred during evening since their Neer Dosa and Akki Roti are good ones and also the place is usually clean and friendly.

Thanx Ajith for these tips.Trust you to come up with tips for eateries on this route!

We just completely messed up our eating places in Wayanad hoping to eat at Mint like you had mentioned and when we reached there it was like a fish market due to some big group that had landed there and then we had to have a forced lunch stop at CCD,Gundulpet, bcos we let the Haritha and GreenGates pass hoping to eat in Batheri

Which is the Kamat Madhuvan?is this the one attached to a HP pump which has the Mcdonalds outlet as well?Where is Indradhanush?

Still, there was Jubilee, Prince and Regency in the list I gave you. All 3 just within a km from Mint (towards town) and I have been to the last 2 recently for lunch and both had good food, esp. non-veg, too. And remember that any day, during regular eating time, Mint is going to be full. They have a very good lunch buffet and that too at a reasonable rate(forgot the exact rate). Among all hotels in Bathery, Mint is where even a bus can be parked the most comfortably if you are travelling in a group.

Once you cross Channapatna, look out for CCD to your right side (wrong side if travelling from Blr to Mysore), CCD and Indradhanush is in the same compound (about 10km after Channapatna), CCD being on the road-side itself and Indradhanush just the adjacent building to it.The area between the 2 hotels is a large parking area. Lots of trees and a few items for kids to play as well.

No HP pump and MacD near Kamat Madhuvan. I believe you are talking about some Kamat (?)Upahaar(?) that comes on the left (same) side going towards Mysore.

Kamat Madhuvan is just after Mysore city. Just after Mysore palace, the road forks, we take the left road, now the NH-212, to Ooty/Calicut and the straight one goes to Hunsur/Coorg. On the NH-212, just within a couple of kms, you get Kamat Madhuvan. It is the corner plot of a kind of Y-junction where the highway slops down a bit to your right. Good parking place, typical Kamat food and fast service too. If you start from Bangalore early morning, you can reach this place for your breakfast easily.

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

Again had the misfortune to be driving from Mysore to Bangalore yesterday (sunday, 9th) evening witnessing very heavy rain and very heavy traffic coupled with long jams at the road humps and Zig-zag gates.

Took about 4.5 hrs from door to door with a dinner break.whew!! had a action packed drive with the yellow board guys as usual doing their antics.

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

Its becoming increasingly necessary to have a CCD/Kamat on the Kanakpura road somewhere near Kollegal or Malavalli.

That is the only point which is stopping people from taking that option and forcing them to take Mysore road.

I heard (and seen from outside but dont remember name) there is a good hotel near Kollegal bus stand and the name starts with A.

BTW, since the roads have improved on NH-209, there are lots of vehicles compared to a couple of years ago taking Kanakapura->Kollegal->ChamrajNagar these days. Any saturday early morning, if you stand for about 10-15 minutes at the NICE Road exit on the Kanakapura road, you can see lots of cars (and many bikes on long trips) and I believe not all are going to Mekedatu or Sivanasamudra only

There is a new restuarant which is operational - dont remember name but stars with S - before you reach Kanakapura. Looks decent though not tried.

Hotel Annapurna in Kollegal is the best bet for any one taking this road towards Coimbatore, Wayanad or Ooty.

Before Kanakpura would be too early. Some where around Kollegal or Malavalli would a nice to have location.

Ajit/Fauji,

Thanks for that info Hotel Annapurna.

Ampere,

Other possible place to try is Georgia Sunshine Village - a resort near Shivanasamudram - not sure though whether they serve breakfast. GeorgiaSunshine

But it will make a great business sense to start if they haven't done so far

Yes. That was Hotel Annapurna. I saw this on my way to M.M.Hills a few years back. I did not stop here since I had a food-break at a ShantiSagar like hotel at Malavalli. It is at the start of Bannur-Mysore road and was a decent place. At the end of Malavalli bye-pass, just take a right-turn and drive towards town (straight road to Malavalli was both bad and had heavy traffic then). At the 4-way junction where road to Maddur, Bannur, Kanakapura and Kollegal meets, just turn towards Bannur and you have this hotel on your right. Not sure whether this hotel is still there though as I had gone there about 5-6 years back.

If we can carry food, nothing like it ! In fact, just before Kollegal, when the highway comes close to Cauvery river (nearer to the bridge), there used to be some big shade trees to stop the car and have food. Not sure if this still exists !

For a place to go and relax, yes I agree its a good place.
I was referring to a place on the highway. For people wanting to go to CBE/Ooty/Waynad, if they find a decent hotel/clean toilet on the highway on 209, that would be very good.
For that reason alone, people stick to Mysore road.

Georgia is quite away from the main highway I think.
