Friends i need ur help me and mother are planning to do a road trip in 2 weeks, 17th December to be precise. so i'm laying my tentative plans.
Suggestions are welcome.
eg: Affordable hotels with good parking space throught the road trip.

Ps: I'v told a couple of my friends to join in for this road trip along with their family but if they turn me down i'm not backing out on this trip.

You can try out the ferry from Satapada (40 kms from Puri) across the Chilka Lake to Krishnaprasad Island and then rejoin NH5 south of Rambha (and before Behrampur), on the way to Vizag.

You may like to stop at rushikulya to spot the Turtles they would have started pouring in by that time.

I am not sure how is the Berhampur-Bhubaneshwar patch but it used to be horrible2-3 years back. However, drive from Berhampur to Vizag is very smooth. You can easily cover that distance in 2 and half hours, provided the road conditions are same.

You can try hotels on Puri beach for night stay although they might be slightly expensive.

Since you would be coming from Konark to Puri, I would recommend you to go back via Puri-Bhubaneshwar route (though its obvious as its short) and visit Raghurajpur. Its 14 kms from Puri and you can see and purchase handicrafts from this sculpture's village.

If interested you can take a break at Pipli to buy Pipli patch work items. The route for Konark and Puri bifurcates from here once you coming from Bhubaneshwar.

The plan looks good.

Be carefull at Bhubaneswar <----> Puri road. This road is single laned with no devider.

Villagers cutting roads frequently.

Though road is good. But drive carefully. i will suggest not more then 60 KMPH.

thank you for the suggestions guys, will surly see the turtles and will stay a day at Gopalpur heard it's a beatifull place.
Lastly one my friend is willing to go with their 2001 santro with family but he's concerned weather the santro will be able to cruze at 90-100. On top of that he has no idea wat mileage he'll get with his santro ? Since he's not driven on highways much. So can you guys suggest wat to check before taking his santro for the trip.

Staying a day at Gopalpur? I wont recommend that. Its not the same Gopalpur-on-sea what used to be. Its a very rough sea coast, not very clean. If you are too keen just get off the highway (its about 15kms from highway) and spend few hours as a break. That should be enough. If you want a day for Gopalpur and Rushikulya then its a different case.

Hi BHPians,

I am all set to embark on a car trip from Kolkata to Vizag (via Puri for the onward journey and via Gopalpur while returning) during the last week of the year. Its a family trip and my BIL will be with me as the co-driver.

The plan is as follows:
24th Dec: Kolkata - Puri (~520 km)
25th Dec: In Puri (may be visit to Konark)
26th Dec: Puri - Vizag (~450 km)
27th and 28th Dec: In Vizag
29th Dec: Vizag - Gopalpur (~285 km)
30th Dec: In Gopalpur
31st Dec: Gopalpur - Kolkata (~620 km)

I would look forward to advise on the road conditions, good eating joints on the highways, starting time, etc. and other aspects. In case there is already an existing thread providing similar info, requesting the mods to merge this (and pardon me!!)
