The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

I visited Mangalore for service-related work again on Friday, stayed at my relative's house in Hulikallu the previous night, and started from Hulikallu at 4:30 am. I reached the Renault service centre in Mangalore at 9:10 am. The route taken was Hulikallu-Kushalnagar-Madikeri-Sampaje-Sullia-Puttur-Mani-Kalladka-BC Road-Mangalore.
I returned to Bangalore yesterday itself and took the Ullal-Mudipu-Kolnadu-Vitla route to avoid the bad stretches of BC Road and Kalladka; this is a far better option for a peaceful drive from Mangalore. There was a lot of irritating traffic up to Kushalnagar, thanks to the slow-moving vehicles of travellers to Madikeri. It took me about 70 minutes to reach Vitla from Mangalore, and from there on it was a steady drive of 70-80 kmph till I reached Kushalnagar. I started from Mangalore at 1:15 pm and reached home at 9:20 pm with two breaks at Sullia and Hunsur.

We will be staying in Mangalore and Udupi

How are the road conditions post Sakleshpur towards Mangalore.
I have preferred Charmadi over Shirady, is this still the case now?

I drove the Charmadi last week after a very long time. Had a much better experience than the Shiradi. The only pain point was between Ujire and GV Kere.

I returned via Shiradi yesterday and the rains have again created big potholes from Marenahalli to Sakleshpura. However the concrete roads in this part have opened and the bad stretch is almost 40% of what existed earlier. I was able to reach home near ORR PES university in 9 hours with 2 breaks.

It is far better now when compared to last year, but the pain point is passing between Uppinangady and BC Road. I last drove on this route two weeks ago; after that, I opted for the Madikeri-Sullia-Puttur route for complete peace of mind.

I am planning a drive from Bangalore to Gokarna via Udupi. My planned start is 3:30 AM on Saturday morning. I wanted to know the following:

1. What is the best route to take and what is the road condition?
2. I plan to reach Udupi Shri Krishna temple around lunch time. Is there any permission or recommendation required to have lunch at the temple?
3. While I am intending to search the thread for good places to eat, are there any personal favorites that you would want to recommend?

My plan is to visit Murudeshwar, Om Beach, Marvanthe Beach, Malpe Beach and Gokarna (Not sure of what beach to visit here, need suggestions). My plan is to be back by Tuesday EOD. Are there any other places that I should include and visit?

I am travelling with 3 teenaged kids, 1 Senior Citizen and my wife in an XUV 700. Other than the regular, are there any other points that I should take care of pre and during my travel?
