TIA
Since there is support for Bandh across Karnataka, I would advise against traveling tomorrow. There are calls for blocking Highways, Airports and toll booths. Not recommended.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

I drove back from Udupi on 26th, on Bangalore Bandh. Everything was normal. Not sure about tomorrow. However, the places between Bangalore and Hassan or beyond are not affected by Kaveri dispute. So it may not be a big deal for them.

You can try Sakleshpur-Hanbal-Charmady.

Can anyone advise how is this route between sakleshpur to Mudigere?
Last time I travelled between Dharmastala cross -Ujire, the road had lot of potholes and was broken in few places. How is it now after rainy season.

I want to travel from Bangalore to Sulia via Hassan (visit relatives there) next weekend in my Virtus. What is the best route?

Thanks

If you do not have to visit Hassan, the alternative is Bangalore-Mysore-Madikeri-Sullia. Roads were in good condition last I drove this route in end June. Not sure of the recent conditions post monsoon.

You can go Bangalore-Hassan-Sakleshpur-Shiradi-Gundya. Until Gundya roads are fine. At Gundya turn towards Subramanya, and then the towards Sullia. Not sure about the quality of roads between Subramanya and Sullia.

Got bored of Charmady route that i have been taking since 3 years and tried this route on 15th October (after a very long time). Lots of bad patches post Hassan all the way till Karkala.

Even with many bad patches (compared to charmady route), strangely this route is still faster than Charmady.

Since you have to make pitstop at Hassan, Take Hassan-Gundya-Subrahmanya-Guttigaru-Paichar-Sullia.. Haven't taken Subrahmanya-Guttigar recently hence don't know the road condition, rest of the roads should be good for a sedan.

You can consider this route too

Hassan - Balupet - Hethur - Kooduraste - Bisle - Subramanya - Guttigar - Sonangeri - Paichar - Sullia

I have driven via Bisle as latest as on September 5th and it is in good condition. Virtus can easily manage this section.

If i were you i would have chosen this for the view it offers.

I will be returning from near kundapura to Bengaluru tomorrow. How is the agumbe-hariharapura-balehonnur-aldur-belur-hassan route? This is the one that maps is suggesting.

I drove it few months ago. I found the Aldur-Belur stretch very irritating. Too much traffic and construction happening then.

Oh, will give it a shot if the roads are good otherwise.

Once the Tumkur-Shimoga stretch is 4-laned it may be a good alternative. Yes it is 20-30km more but it allows use of Agumbe.

Tumkur-Shimoga-Thirthahalli-Agumbe-Hebri-Manipal.
