Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hi all,

I saw several posts here mentioning lack of good restaurants/stops between Vijayapura and Chitradurga. I just completed this stretch and researched quite a few stops beforehand on google and this forum.
Listing them below for fellow travelers:

BLR-Solapur direction
• Naivedyam just few hundred meters before the Hospete exit on Chitradurga bypass.
• Paakshala Chitradurga (earlier Sai Grand)
• Anand Vihar, NH50, Hulikere
• Kushtagi Nandagokula
• Hotel Kyriad Prestige, Ilkal
• Hotel Prakash Hungund
• The Evergreen Family Restaurant (Almatti)
• Hotel Gujrat pure veg (Mukartihal)
• Sri Siddheshwars Cafe and Family Restaurant, Vijayapur Bypass

Solapur-BLR direction
• Udupi Hotel Surya (Zalki)
• Hotel Gujrat Sagar (Vijaypura)
• Khalsa Punjabi Dhaba, Hospete
• Hotel Mayura KDTC TB Dam -
• Sukh Sagar right on the highway exit ramp from NH50 to NH48 (which bypasses Chitradurga)
• Sai Grand, Chitradurga bypass (now Paakshala)
• Hotel Guruprasad, Chitradurga

You can check them on google maps once for your trip.

PS: This is my first post . Thanks.

That's great to know. However, I have a queries in mind. I have used bla bla car earlier to help fellow travelers but sometimes if I see someone isn't right, I tend to avoid them and I had one bad experience where an elderly lady had puked in my car and that was the last time I used bla bla car and another where they thought I am a taxi guy

The concerns are:
1.Uncertaininty of the people who might come in the car. The last I'd want is a goon to threaten me and try to rob me off. Creating fake profiles are easy so that's concern no. 1
2. For the price difference, I believe it's a couple of thousands for such a long distance, but I would not risk it for such a long distance.
3.What if someone in the car travels and the car is involved in an accident. How will that be covered under insurance.
4. As per CMVR rules, we cannot ferry people in the car(I know we can claim them to be as a friend) but this is still a grey area.

Please note, I had asked bla bla car these questions too and there was no proper response from them.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

I plan to travel to Miraj from Bangalore next week. Google is suggesting this route:

Bangalore - Tumkur - Davangere - Hubbali - Belagavi - Chikodi - Kagwad - Miraj.

The vehicle will be Brezza ZXI+ AT which has done 10100 kms till now in six months. Have until now done max 450 kms in a single day. This will be first long drive of approximately 650 kms in a single day. I will be accompanied by my wife who can also drive.

I will be keeping tyre inflator and puncture repair kit handy. The car does not have a dashcam yet.

It would be very helpful if someone could guide me regarding:
1. Whether the route mentioned above would be good. I don't mind reaching late if the road condition is good.
2. Any good eateries along the route?

Thanks for your reply.

That is ideal route to take - been on this section last crazy Diwali weekend. You would take right exit from NH48 just before Sankeswar - Cross Chikodi town and head towards Kagwad. After KA Border, into MH, near Manjari and Mhaishal you will find some potholes and bad roads for about 10 kms. Nothing that your car can't handle - just slow down and be mindful of the two-wheelers who are trying to dodge those potholes in front of your car. After Mhaisal, you will go towards Vaddi Village and then Miraj.

Before reaching to Chikodi, there are beautiful hills and windmills - if you get a chance, take a diversion and click pictures around there in the lush green surroundings and beautiful off-road sections of those windmills/ hills on opposite side.

There are almost no descent eateries once you leave NH48 - all you will get is typical MH/ KA border hotels with small setup and probably not so great cleanliness. Inside Chikodi town, main junction/ basava circle near court, there is Hotel Tamarind (https://maps.app.goo.gl/tDcHMGRZtKeGLi21A). Descent food and quick service. Another Tamarind if you take a little diversion from your route - https://maps.app.goo.gl/bzc7JTfvTYcX3mCt5

Also - refuel before you leave NH48 - the last Jio BP (https://maps.app.goo.gl/gf3odSnULGGwxsJ1A), or Belgavi COCO (https://maps.app.goo.gl/dMeqCSLhbVakqFRM6). Fuel is cheaper in KA than MH

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

With the sugar factory season about to start in a couple of days, we are already seeing the tractors and trucks loaded with sugar cane plying towards the factories. These will further slow down your travel. Just be mindful of that. Also in case you miss to refuel on NH4, here is a trusted Indian oil bunk - https://maps.app.goo.gl/okGMdKJR2iyZG3wc8

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hello,

I have travelled a few times between Bangalore - Pune and Bangalore - Aurangabad in last year and always except once I used the route via Solapur and it was pretty good experience.

I will be travelling from Pune to Bangalore on Sunday and as usual Google maps is recommending route via Solapur but somehow I am tempted to try out route via Kolhapur.

Can anyone suggest if I should take the the plunge to give this route a try once again or stick to route via Solapur?

PS - I will starting early morning around 4:30 from Viman Nagar so traffic in Pune should not be an issue.

It's a toss-up between the traffic on PNQ-SUR vs the road-work and diversions on the PNQ-BGM side.

But if you are starting at 4.30 am, then the traffic will be lesser on the Solapur side in the early hours. But the road conditions on the other will not change. Also, the Hubli-Dharwad by-pass work to be considered.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Dear Friends,

I'm planning to travel with my family from Mumbai to Hubli in the 2nd week of Dec 2024 by my car (Scoda Rapid 2020 Edition). My concern is the section between Karad and Belagavi which appears to be severely broken. As an alternative, I was the below route via sangli, Chikodi, Hattargi

https://maps.app.goo.gl/4ff6eNjD2qRQbfdu8

Does anyone have any experience of this route ? Any help and guidance will be much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hi All,

I'm planning a road trip for which g-maps suggests a good amount of NH 48 usage. Based on some posts of poor road conditions, I felt best to take your guidance. My route is as follows:

Onward: (Completely unknown route) Inner Goa (near Doodhsagar falls) - NH748 to Belgavi - NH48 (Solapur - Kolhapur - Karad - Satara - Hinjewadi) - NH60 (Chakan - Rajagurunagar - Alephata - Dodi - Sinnar) - Nashik

On return: Nashik - Bijapur/ Bagalkote (maps suggests NH48 sections) - Badami - Hospete - Bangalore (here I'm familiar with the excellent roads from near Hospete - NH50 to Bangalore - including some NH48)

How are these sections now? Are there any decent hotels outside of Pune for a break of journey onward? Any good eateries (the veg ones)? My return trip will also be closer to Christmas, and hence could see much more traffic. I'd love to take on any route suggestions!

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

For those who are curious to understand what is the latest update on the road works between Satara and Kagal you can check the video by Droneman below. It covers the drone view for section between Satara and little ahead of Karad. Hopefully he will also cover the remaining part till Kagal in coming few days.

This gives decent info about what the road condition (at least the diversion part) is on this stretch. Looks like the overall diversions still remain the same and situation may not change for next few months.

I had covered this stretch in Oct 2nd week and as seen in the video, the concrete sections are in patches. What is worst is the concrete sections and the normal tar road are at different levels making the vehicles to fly and land at good speeds which is dangerous. This needs to be addressed by the authorities ASAP. Looking the progress, hopefully the entire road works gets finished before end of 2025.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

I had ridden down from Pune to Bangalore (Tumkur) Oct 26 and back to Pune Nov 2. Route taken: Pune - Sholapur - Vijayapura (Bijapur) - Hospete - Chitradurga - Tumkur.

Distance 800 Km.
Time: Left Pune at 5.15am and was in Tumkur Hotel (Sadanand) 4pm.

Road Conditions:

Pune to Sholapur has pretty decent roads all through. The Sholapur City bypass is also a boon to travellers and is also in good shape.

Sholapur - Vijayapura: Smooth roads. Fill up fuel at Vijayapura as there are very few options till Hospete.

Vijayapura - Hospete: Roads are smooth but have frequent speed breakers / rumble strips. Could not see any decent restaurant along this stretch.

Hospete - Chitradurga: Excellent smooth road. No speed breakers.

Chitradurga - Tumkur: Smooth roads with a couple of diversions for flyover work but nothing major to really bother about.

Overall and in hindsight, this was a good decision to take the above route vs the NH48 route via Kolhapur, Belgaum, Hubli which is still dug up.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hi all - quick update that I drove the Chikmagalur - Mumbai stretch over yesterday and today (halted overnight at Pune).

Decided to take the following route based on very helpful comments from members on this thread -> Chitradurga-Hosapete-Vijayapura-Solapur-Pune-Mumbai.

Happy to report that, other than Solapur-Pune stretch, roads were in excellent conditions, save for the frequent speed bumps on Hosapete-Vijaypura section. These also weren't too bad, and one gets used to the timing (intersections only) pretty quickly.

Upon entering Maharashtra, as expected, road quality worsens off in comparison to Karnataka roads. But still, quite manageable.

We were four of us, in a fully loaded A4 and the car would have scraped its underbelly maybe only twice or so in the entire trip (which is also a testament to the A4's delightfully buttery suspension setup).

Also consistent with others' views above, decent rest stops on this route are far and few. We stopped for food and rest breaks at Hotel Kyriad Prestige (Ilkal), Sugaran (post Solapur bypass) and Bloom (overnight at Pune Magarpatta). The suggestions on this thread for these were super useful.

Worth noting that XP 95 availability is also slightly sparse up to Vijayawada. We filled up XP 95 at Chikmagalur before starting off, and had to top up once with Jio BP on this route.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

I did Bangalore - Pune trip yesterday. Left home at 4.45 am and were at Tumkur Road Nice exit by 5.30 am. We decided to take the regular NH 48 all through.

We took out first breakfast break at Apoorva resorts, Chitradurga and were done with the 'Benne dosa' before 8 am. Crossed Belgaum by 1 pm. Lunch break was at Rao Wada Restaurant just after Karad, at 2 pm.

The number of deviations in the MH side is very high. It's almost as though You're doing more service road and less highway. But the service roads aren't that bad. Or perhaps it was a lucky day for my yesterday with less traffic throughout.

The traffic was quite heavy post the Khed toll plaza and got much heavier after Katraj. Our destination was Hinjewadi. And we got there at 4.40 pm sharp. I didn't have to fill fuel enroute, got there in one full tank that I did at Blr and the A6 had a combo of quick, super quick, sedate, very sedate and enthusiastic modes through the drive.

I'm now tempted to get back home through the same route itself. I drive back on Monday and shall update here.
