This brings back memories from TN-KA Cauvery water issue where we were also caught in the turmoil due our car having TN no.

We were returning from our trip to Gokarna and Jog Falls. Completely unaware of the unrest happening, our car was caught somewhere after Chitradurga. Fortunately no harm was done to the family, but our car was vandalised with paint and we were let go. After driving for some 20 kms, we stopped at a petrol bunk and fortunately the bunk owner/manager took us to nearby local place, where we printed a fake KA no sticker and struck it on top of the no plates. This way we reached back Bangalore safely and did not faced any other issue.

After sometime, I applied for the KA no and got it successfully. However, till this date I have kept the TN no plates with me in the boot. I'm prepared to change the plates based on the state and safety requirements. That day, even the police personnel were recommending that you either change your plates or completely remove them to safeguard your family and your car.

Of-course the best way is to avoid the travel if feasible, but if you really have to travel, this could be one dirty way to avoid conflict by changing plates.

Drive safe

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Yesterday the Hubbali-Ranebennur stretch of the highway was blocked due to farmer protests at 3 places - Shyadambi, Haveri Bypass, and Motebennur. Trucks were also stopped at Bankapur toll, where we saw hundreds parked and truckers playing cards.

While the first 2 were relatively negotiable, the stretch near Motebennur cost us an hour extra, though not knowing interior roads we ultimately circled back to the same place where blocked (it was at the entry of a WIP section) at around 5 pm when the strike was called off.

The cops were helpless and acknowledged the problem especially for those traveling with families. However, I gave one of them an earful because they did not give out the information proactively - for example, warning at Hubbali or Bankapur could have given us alternate route options, but the blockades were made such that you had to take the village roads other than turning back. And topping that it was not like tolls were waived at Chalageri and Bankapur.

I don't know if this was a one day affair or there is going to be more of the circus in the coming days. Perhaps we should keep track of local news in the next few weeks to get a heads up.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Had done BLR Pune on 1st Dec- Door to door it was 12hrs which included 90mins break time. started around 3pm from Begur - bangalore - south and reached Camp Pune at 3am some Notable points
1. Sugarcane season tractors and trucks are heavy and very slow moving so be watchful. specially after hubli. i must say that all vehicles have bright warning at rear thats very helpful
2. traffic was high till Chitradurga. badly patched up potholes post tumkur for about 15 kms
3. Sudden nasty potholes post the slope after khambatki tunnel. Please do watch for that.

Rest all good, it was my first XUV700 drive which an fantabulous experience. FE of Manual diesel was 17kmph+ for speeds around 100.
PM incase you need any specific info.
thanks

Managed to get similar mileage during my Blr-Mum drive in Aug. However, back then I was forced to stick to 100-110 max due to the rains! I was driving the XUV700 Diesel AT.

Mumbai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Hi,

I am planning a trip from Mumbai to Bangalore and back with family (Mother, Spouse, Son and Daughter). Trip is planned for next weekend and return after a 7-day stay in Bangalore.

I wish to drive only during the daylight hours as I am the only person driving and do not have much experience in Highway driving. So I will have to take a night break in between.

I will be driving my Honda City CVT 4th Gen.

I request your inputs on the following queries.

1. Which is the best route (info like distance, quality of the road, traffic pattern, by-pass options, travel time, etc.,
a. via NH 48
b. via Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway

2. Preferred Petrol stations

3. Preferred places for taking break/ Eateries

4. Preferred city and motels for taking the night break

5. Any other relevant info when travelling with family.

Thanks and warm regards,

Since I drive non stop from Mumbai to Bangalore i am not the best person to respond to this question.

5. Any other relevant info when travelling with family.
Carry sufficient water and snacks. Keep a puncture repair kit and first aid kit with you for any kind of emergencies. Ensure you get the car serviced before you leave Mumbai (if your service is due) else please get it inspected for any niggles.

The points that I have shared are what I generally use as markers on my route to and fro between Mum-Blr. They are in the order of occurrence as per the direction you would travel in.

Hotel Shree Ratnam has good breakfast. I've tried. Food was good and no problem to my tummy.

Ghar ka Khana - Farm Veda Restaurant attached to Reliance petrol pump. This is on the opposite side There is a median break to make a U turn and reach this restaurant. I haven't tried their food but heard good feedback.

Last year we did a trip on this route and we stopped at this place: Hotel Nanjundeshwara, which comes just before Tumkur. Food was good, service fast, ample parking and toilets were clean (wife approved).

This is roughly 1.5 - 2hr from Bangalore depending on where you start from.

I'm planning to do this drive end of this year and we have booked Hotel Ananth The Grand located in Hubballi. We'll actually be starting from Pune (but in the afternoon) so even from Mumbai, this should work well for a stop.

https://goo.gl/maps/X9cFMhrE3AnmKpZdA

The rating is really good on Google and Booking.com and I felt the price to be decent. Among the options which fall majorly on the highway (with not much detour), this was the only option I could find with decent ratings.

FYI, I haven't stayed here but seems like a good option.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

We did this stretch yesterday and took us almost 15 hours with 2 break.
I left Hadapsur, Pune at 7.15 AM yesterday 17th Dec. Was driving with a 4 year old.
Stopped at Manasa(Banana Leaf) Satara at 9.30 AM for breakfast. After about 40 min left Satara.
Around 2 PM got into Dharwad Hubbali stretch and got stuck in a huge traffic jam due to an accident. Since we had packed lunch made use of this time and had food in the car.
Stopped at Apoorva Resorts for snacks at 5.20 PM. Let my kid play in their lawn and took a break of almost an hour. Drove non stop and reached Vijaya Bank layout(Bannerghatta Road) at 10.10 PM

Pune to Satara road is 6 laned but surface is uneven. Satara to Karnataka border is 2 lane but smooth surface.
Belgaum to Tumkur is 6 lane very good surface . Tumkur to Bangalore is 4 lane and not great condition and heavy traffic.
Also got stuck between Kanakapura and Bannerghatta stretch of Nice road due to repairs.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

Hello team,

My wife and I are planning a Bangalore to Pune trip on Friday, 23 December 2022 and returning from Pune to Bangalore on 02 Jan 2023.

Bangalore start point: Buddigere Cross, Near Hoskote toll plaza.
Pune destination: Military Intelligence School, Near Wanawadi police station.

We have a Honda Amaze VX MT Petrol vehicle in which we already made a round trip from Bangalore to New Delhi in 2020, so I am not concerned about the vehicle. But certainly, any tips would surely help. One full tank normally goes somewhere around 450 km.

We plan to start at 4:00 AM (~30 minutes deviation max) from both ends.

Generically I want to know the following:

1. How is the overall road condition? Do we have six lanes road throughout?

2. I will surely fill up the tank before entering MH. Any tips on the petrol pump to avoid fraud or fuel quality?

3. I have been keeping tire pressure of 32 PSI (normal air) for all trips, but recently a service agent told me to keep 36 PSI if the boot is loaded. I am confused now. The Car has stock MRF tires. Any suggestions if the mileage would improve on 36 PSI? We may invite two people for carpooling (maybe BlaBla or a QuickRide).

4. I heard in the news about the Karnataka - Maharashtra border dispute getting intensified. Any concern for me in terms of road rides on NH48?

----
Since we both are very much concerned about the cleanliness of restrooms and would love to have the best possible veg food options, I request for following suggestions:

For Bangalore to Pune route:

1. Best location for breakfast around 2-3 hours from Tin Factory, Bangalore (~ 7-8 am)?

2. We have an online (video) office meeting at 2 pm for 30 minutes. We plan to have a break for lunch along with that meeting. After a lot of great feedback in this thread, we feel to stop at Hotel Amar - Only Veg - Tawandi Ghats, After Sankeshwar. With the start plan around 4 am, this should be reachable by 1:30 pm. Any other possible options are appreciated.

3. We want two short tea breaks: First somewhere between Davanagere and Hubbali and second around Satara (after Karad). Where can we halt for the best tea and good ambience?

To explore more options, we would prefer to choose different options for the return trip on 02 Jan 2023. Please help with the following:

For Pune to Bangalore route:

1. Best location for breakfast around 2 hours from Pune towards Bangalore?

2. Lunch with a good ambience around 2 pm. This could be around Hubbali if we start at 5:00 AM from Pune. Right?

3. Tea breaks across the route.

Your suggestions are much appreciated. I will give my feedback post my ride for others' benefit.

Thanks, Piyush.

I travelled this route during this weekend (17th Dec) and saw no issues whatsoever through the route.

It is 6 lane all the way from Bangalore to Hubli, Dharwad to Nippani, and Satara to Mumbai. The rest are 4 lane with only 2 lanes being usable at any point of time.

If it is just 2 of you travelling with a fully loaded boot, you can stick to 32 PSI as your pressure. However, if you are going to be travelling with a car and boot that is full to the helm, you should consider a PSI of 36!

Hotel Ganesh would be to your left approximately 4 hours + after you leave home. There are no other decent places for breakfast before that.

If you manage to leave Ganesh by 9:30 AM latest, then you should be able to comfortably make it to Amar Veg by lunch (around 2:30 PM).
