Is it really worth visiting Jog around Mar/Apr timeframe, if we drive all the way there it has to be to view the majestic water falls..so wanted to know how is the waterfalls during this time of the year

Please suggest. Thanks
You can view the majestic waterfalls, but without water .

Only during July/August/September when the Sharavathi river is full and the Linganamukki dam is opened, Jog falls is actually a waterfall. Otherwise only a fall.

My wiser half was telling me so as well, but still I said let me check with people here.

I will stick to my original plan then.
ie Drive along Coastal road to Goa and return via NH48

Unless the Linganamakki dam is full and the water is letout, Jog falls will not be in it's full splendor. Water levels are low at the moment.

It all depends on how Linganamakki gets filled up. Currently water levels are pretty low. I just hope the current levels of rain continue and fill up the reservoirs.

The water level on linganamakki is so low that the submerged. Hirebhaskar Dam is also visible on the Sharavati Backwaters. I saw many people visiting that dam as well with special permissions. This has happened for the first time in last 15 or 20 years. Considering those points I dont think Jog Falls to be in full swing until end of August. Also it depends on how it rains in the Shimoga district for this entire month.

I was at Jog last Sunday. Water flow is okish, the falls are not in the full form yet. I believe a 3-4 weeks more and then it will be worth seeing it in full glory.

There was also a lot of cloud cover that made it hard to sight the falls. One had to patiently wait for the moment when the cloud cover went away for a few mins....

There is only one route. Turn towards Nagara from Kollur (the other side of Vandse route). Once you get past the ghats, you hit the Nagodi check post. Exit the road here and drive on the single lane road till you hit the Jog-Bhatkal road. Towards to Jog on this one. (Route Link)

Re: Bangalore to Jog Falls - Route, experiences

Planning a road trip from Bangalore to Goa around end-October. Is it a good idea to plan a stop-over at Jog Falls? If so, what is the best route to Jog and then Goa beyond? Thanks in advance.

A stopover can be done at Jog falls if you start very early from Bangalore. At this point of time Jog is just a fall not waterfall You can just see very little amount of water there. I would suggest you can directly drive to Goa via Yellapur and visit Magod Falls which would be a detour of about 18 Kms from Yellapur.

I'm planning to visit Jog on 24th-25th December and maps suggest the following routes.
Which of the following is a better route in terms of travel time and food options.

Please suggest good food options on the Blr-Tumkur-Sira-Chitradurga Route.

You can do either. But taking the route via Shimoga means you need more time to go past the town. Also question is where is the destination? I mean if you are staying close to Jog then the route via Rannebennur/Malebennur would be faster.

Apart from Ranebennur, another is : Harihar bypass, Malebennur, Honnali, Shikaripur, Anandpuram, Sagar, Jog. It was good sometime back. But I have not been on these roads for some time. So would be good to get some recent feedback on the same.
