Gurgaon - Navi Mumbai - Route Suggestions

Hello Everyone!

I am new to Team-BHP.

I am planning to do a Gurgaon to Navi Mumbai (Kharghar to be precise) trip by road in early September.

After days of scouring through Team-BHP forums, I am posting this route suggestion request as I couldnt find any existing post or thread answering some of my questions.

So here I go.....

According to mapsofindia, the shortest route from Gurgaon to Taloja is Gurgaon - Jaipur - Fatehgarh - Bhilwara - Chittorgarh - Ratlam - Malegaon - Nashik - Igatpuri - Bhiwandi - Taloja.

However, some of the posts that I came across in the forums out here suggest NH8 as the best route.

Although I want to reach Kharghar in 2 days, I also want my drive to be equally pleasurable and scenic for most of the route.

So advice the best of both worlds....

No, what you got out of mapsofindia is a stupid and irrational route.

The correct route is as follows:
NH8-Gurgaon-Behror-Kotputli-Shahapura-Jaipura bypass-Kishangarh bypass-take NH79-Nasirabad-Bhilwara-Chittorgarh-take NH76-Udaipur bypass-take NH8 again-Rishanbdeo-Ratanpur-Shamlaji-HImmatnagar-Ahmedabad bypassed-expressway-Vadodara bypassed-Bharuch-Ankleshwar-Surat-Navsari-Vapi-Manor-Ghodbunder-Thane-Mukund-New Bombay Airoli-News Bombay Turbhe-New Bombay Belapur-New Bombay Kharghar

You can follow this route in my log book in the link below (Rows 684-770), between Gurgaon and Thane:
http://hvkumar.googlegroups.com/web/...SFWX59nr5BxGqA

You can follow the same route with more details but in teh reverse direction (Bombay-Delhi) in Row Nos 62-166 in the following link:
http://hvkumar.googlegroups.com/web/...Mt0t6nY0uV5FIQ

You can follow the following link to understand how to bypass BOmbay, from GHodbunder (before Thane) to New Bombay (Turbhe) and Kharghar.

HOW TO BYPASS BOMBAY via New Bombay - North side - hvkumar | Google Groups

In addition to Kumar's suggestion i.e the Gurgaon - Jaipur - Chittaurgarh - Udaipur - Ahmedabad - Vapi - Manor - Virar

Then you got two alternatives,

Take the left at Fountain Hotel via Ghodbunder Road - reach Thane - take the Highway (towards Nashik) - from the toll go to Mumbra bypass - through sheelphata - Taloja - Khargar
(Mumbra route through by-pass is good - the concretisation is complete at sheelphata stretch - avoid early morning/late night drives through the bypass & through Ghodbunder - Truckies tend to crowd it)

Alternatively, Thane (via Ghodbunder Road) - take the Highway (towards Mumbai) - Mulund (Toll) - then go towards Airoli (Toll) - hit the Thane Belapur Road - then Palm beach road to Khargar

urban_legend, in the Bombay bypass route via Shil phata, the road deteriorates during the rains and becomes terrible. The Airoli route is always in good condition nowadays, hence I prefer that route.

This year the concretisation is complete on the stretch starting from Mumbra by pass exit all the way upto shil phata. After that it is a well maintained toll road through Taloja.

I went on the bypass 10 days ago, it is already showing signs of wear and tear, and with intensified rains, I think the road will break down soon.

@hvkumar - Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions and useful links!
@urban_legend - Thanks for your insights too

Both of your suggestions / comments will sure help me plan my trip in the best way!

I will now plan my route accordingly....

I also request to please suggest stop-over place from Gurgaon towards Mumbai on Day 1.

I am planning this trip with family (wife, brother & 2 Kids aged 7 & 4) during the last phase of Ramzan (planning to be home for Eid ), intend to visit Ajmer Sherif Dargah on the way and break fast at Udaipur if we reach by 7:00 PM or break fast on the way and take night halt at Ahmedabad.

Please let me know your thoughts on the same......

Thanks once again in advance for all your help.

@hvkumar - thanks for your valuable suggestions & detailed travelogues....
@urban_legend - thanks for your insights as well

Also request you to suggest stopover location during the Gurgaon to Mumbai trip on day 1.

I am planning this trip with family (wife & 2 daughters aged 7 and 4) during last phase of Ramzan. I presently intend to visit Ajmer Sherif on the way and reach Udaipur in time to break fast (around 7 PM).

In case I dont manage to reach Udaipur by this time, then I intend to break fast on the way and proceed to Ahmedabad for night halt.

Please suggest which one would be a better option or if there is any other idea to better the two. Ideally I am planning to break fast on day 2 at home....

Thanks once again in advance for all your help.

Udaipur could be an ideal halt on Day 1, you could reach Bombay be Day 2 evening.
Alternatively, you can press on towards Ahmedabad and stay at RTDC Rishabdeo or RTDC Ratanpur, both with 1-2 hours from Udaipur.

I agree the ideal route would be Gurgaon - Udaipur on day 1 and then to Mumbai on day - 2.

If you are planning to do Ajmer enroute, then you would be reaching Udaipur late in the night. Ahmedabad would not be advisable (considering you have 2 kids) on the same day.

I would suggest that you leave very early from Gurgaon to make it to udaipur and then proceed to Mumbai the next day.

Drive safe!

Need Driving Directions Please

Hello Everyone:

Need help on driving directions from Gurgaon, Haryana to Nasik, Maharasthra.

NH8: I have driven from Gurgaon to Nasik a couple of years back, but that was mainly on NH8, i.e., Gurgaon - Jaipur - Udaipur - Ahmedabad - Surat - Nasik. NH8 till Surat was in pretty good condition (barring a few divertions due to construction) but from Surat to Nasik was quite trechearous. This route would be around 1400 Km, but NH8 was in a pretty good condition two years back. Need inputs on the condition now.

NH3: The other option that I see on Google Maps is Gurgaon - Mathura - Agra - Gwalior - Guna - Indore - Dhule - Malegaon - Nasik, NH3 all the way. This is around 1230 Km. I have no idea whatsover on the condition of NH3.

The question is which would be a better choice in terms of road condition, NH3 or NH8.

Would you be great if some of you could help. Thanks in advance!

Surat-Bardoli-Vyara-Saputara-Wani-Nashik route is OK, but never a great road. It is narrow 2 laned road through the jungles, poor facilities, hardly any traffic, without any bypasses. Breaks up during the monsoons. Currently OK. But hardly the choice for someone who is new to the region, who I think should stick to the main highways.

Re: Gurgaon - Navi Mumbai - Route Suggestions

@parvezstays - as you must have referred the links posted by @AvonA7, I id this route 3 weeks before and updated the the post in detail. Just one careful this, watch out for the Udaipur airport route NH76. If you are coming from Gurgaon, its pretty straight forward. Don't leave NH79, automatically it will converse in NH 76 and take you to NH8 after Udaipur airport.

While going from this side, at Udaipur Bypass after exiting from NH8, only this you have to look for is Udaipur airport, this is the correct NH76 which will take you to NH 79 further.

As Kumar has said in my post, MapMyIndia shows wrong NH 76 in all its version till 5.0 It seems get corrected in ver 6 though.

Happy driving. if you leave apart Gurgaon Jaipur and Surat Godbunder, rest all roads are wonderful to drive.
