This is the natural progression of the next stage. Hoskote portion of the Chennai Expressway STRR interchange all the way to Hosur road and there on to NH844 exchange at Sanamavu clover leaf.

There are two roadblocks here. One the hillock on Chennai expressway between STRR/OMR section to BCE (BLR Chennai Expressway) STRR interchange is not resolved. There is small temple which needs to be moved. That needs to be fixed. Not sure what is the current status.

Secondly there seems to be land acquisition issue at the location where STRR cuts the Bangalore Chennai railway line.

Until these two issues are resolved, not sure how soon we can see this section of STRR can open up.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

How is the STRR to reach Tumkur from Devanahalli?

Is the STRR fully done or does it have diversions?

While returning, how do you get to blr airport from STRR? Exit before hyd highway, head towards hyd and take a U turn or is there any exit ramp to head to airport without the need for U turn?

From Devanahalli to Dabaspete it is fully done with no diversions. One toll booth at Hulikunte.

You will need to exit before Hyd highway (near DNR Solace), take the service road and use the other main road to head to airport.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Surprised there are no cloverleaf junctions at each of these major intersections.

A u-turn is a tiny inconvenience for us, but think of fully loaded semi-articulated trucks attempting the same.

Of course, the beauty of a cloverleaf is that it can be added retrospectively as long as the land is available.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

I think STRR is a boon for people living in the areas around BLR-DEVANAHALLI and BLR-HOSKOTE highways. It used to be a pain to access Tumkur highway - a gateway to many holiday destinations - especially the return journey when you reach Bangalore outskirts during peak evening traffic. I have officially switched to STRR to get to Tumkur and no longer use Taj Yeswantpur - Hebbal ORR route.

I saw some speed cameras mounted across the road on STRR and displaying vehicle speed. Are they enforcing speed limits and issuing challans like they are doing on BLR-MYS road? Is there any portal to check traffic fines for a vehicle, not just under Bangalore traffic police jurisdiction but across KA?

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Hoskote to Tamilnadu border maybe Bagalur seem to open by March 2025.. I had read about it last week. Opening this stretch to Hosur will be really good to bypass Bangalore going down south from Central India. Devanahalli to Hoskote used to take 40mins now in 15mins to 20mins we are able to traverse this stretch

Thats the whole idea. My take is all the way from Devaanahalli to NH75 Clover leaf to Bangalore-Chennai Expressway exit to Baglur-Malur cross over to Hosur road to NH844 clover leaf is a perfect exit path.

If one is heading to Salem, then exit at 844 instead of Hosur road. This way you can even bypass Krishnagiri also, once 844 is complete.

On the whole I can already see traffic getting divided at Bangalore exit Chennai traffic from Bangalore exit will get divided by a third (Old Madras Road NH75, Chennai Expressway NE7 and Hosur road NH44). Similarly Salem traffic should also be divided by 2 (Hosur Road NH44 and Old Dharmapuri Highway NH844)

The speed cameras on the STRR have been around since it opened unofficially to traffic in early 2023. I don’t think challans are being issued yet (I keep checking on both the BTP/Karnataka portals regularly). I travel quite frequently on this road and I always stick to around 90kmph, the physical speed signboards mention 100kmph limit but I’ve seen the digital displays mention 80kmph and the displays with the speed cameras also show any speed above 80kmph in Red and lower speeds in Green.

You said it perfectly. I recently took the Devanahalli Dabaspet STRR stretch enroute to Pune and the drive was a breeze at 4.30 am. The stretch was lit for most of the route. I did reach triple digit speeds easily. Was not aware of any speed cameras, will need to careful going forward. The Yeswantpur route was a pain considering the heavy vehicle traffic and many a times the Parle G flyover being closed.

Can empathize with your apprehension .

The KA-wide challan portal is: https://echallan.ksp.gov.in/

I took a solo early morning joyride today from home to Devanahalli, stopped for breakfast at A2B at Devanahalli.

Then took the slip road to the STRR, drove the length of the STRR until the Hosakote - Bengaluru Loop, and then drove back from there upto Devanahalli and trundled back home.

One pic of the road taken with the phone stand.

Totally uneventful. Very normal and disciplined traffic, kept to the speed limit of 100kmph all through the STRR. Excellent surface. Two sets of tolls paid at Nalluru totalling to Rs 120 and Devanahalli totalling to Rs 170.

Also did some idle loafing around a couple of car showrooms.

(A few Drool-worthy pics)

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Sounds like an excellent morning! Quick question: is there an exit to Doddaballapura Road? Little ashamed to ask as we live so close, but have never needed to use the STRR yet.

Typically Yelahanka folks use the upgraded Hessaraghatta route to Nelamangala for the Hassan/Kunigal highway, but I can see the huge benefits of the STRR ending at Dabaspete (Dobbspete) for Mumbai/Goa travellers.

Indeed it was. I love my Solo drives with just the aural pleasure of the exhaust overrun from a nice growly little petrol engine in a great handling, planted little car, for company. The Stuff of Dreams - there is a certain purity in this, which I love.

(OT: I took it to Mysore and back on the Express-highway around two weeks back, in just the same way. Kept to the speed limit all the way up and down and enjoyed the ‘middle lane’.)

Ref Doddaballapura Road - I am sorry I did not notice any clear markings of this nature.

Of course the STRR is a massive benefit for someone driving say from Mulbagal to Pune. They simply do not have to touch Bangalore city at all. And of course it will be a boon for the Transportation Industry too.

There is an exit to Doddaballapura road from the STRR and it is clearly marked, have seen them while going to and coming from Dabaspet.

In fact Yelahanka folks should use the STRR to reach Dabaspet provide the Doddaballapura road is in good condition - Road + traffic.
