Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

I drove on the STRR from Hoskote to Devanahalli yesterday with map shared by BHPian @NPV. Took the STRR from Hoskote - Chintamani road to NH-44 near Nandi cross. The road is very good, one-way toll is Rs.70. Returned the same route, and no toll was deducted on the return though.

I'd suggest taking SH96 only if you are looking for a idyllic drive, i.e. not focused on reaching the destination within an expected timeframe. STRR should be a fair deal faster + a more safe drive given the wider + divided carriageway.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Thanks to the help and guidance from experts here, was able to use STRR to skirt around Blore , between Hoskote <--devanahalli-doddaballapura-->Dobbaspet. Of course some stretch around Doddaballapura is incomplete/potholed, however it's but a minor inconvenience.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Took the STRR between Devanahalli and Hoskote. Good road and quite impressive. Fairly empty currently. Although I expect truck traffic will pick up once the Hoskote interchange is done and also the pending works in the dodaballapur dabspet area gets done. Expect significant increase once the connect to Hosur road is done. Is there any target timeframe around that ?

This will be a proper Bangalore bypass and since it is so far out, I guess will not be too useful or viable for semi local traffic. Maybe still useful for people living in the peripheries like Hosur, Sarjapur, Hoskote.

But that is why it is called an STRR

Does that mean the Doddaballapura bypass is actually completed? I had taken the STRR on Feb 2; there was no access to the bypass and it was an excruciating 40 minutes to pass through the ~10-12 km this bypass is supposed to avoid.

Yes, according to the article all the work from Dabaspet to Hoskote will complete in a week or two. Most of the pending work was between Dabaspet and Doddaballapura so, all of that work is completing now. I guess, we will see inauguration ads soon before the election dates are announced.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

It appears Bagalur-Hoskote section will also be operational by this time next year ( could be even earlier).

I feel that it will help truck traffic that currently takes Bagalur- Sarjapur - Dommasandra route ( NH-648 and then SH-35) to go to hoskote, to bypass Bangalore. It will improve the quality of life in Sarjapura area where these trucks frequently cause accidents.

Hoskote-Hosur work is happening on steriods. Like I mentioned earlier even the section beyond Hosur Road into NH844 and Denkanikottai Road is happening fast. Earth works are on in full swing. I have witnessed most of these sections myself.

And given the STRR cuts Hosur road beyond Hosur towards Krishnagiri, its a great option to divert the trucks towards Hoskote and there on to Devanahalli.

The only fly in the ointment (and also a very critical piece) the south west quadrant Bannergatta-Kanakpura-Ramagar-Magadi-Dobbaspet needs to happen.

Hopefully rest should be up soon.

Thanks for the update, do you know where exactly this would cut the hosur Denkanikota road?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two crucial stretches of Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) on March 11, which have been built with the aim to reduce traffic congestion in the tech capital.

The two sections are the Dobbaspet–Doddaballapur bypass section of NH-648 (42 km, constructed for Rs 1,438 crore) and the Doddaballapur bypass–Hoskote section of NH-648 (37.6 km, built for Rs 1,317 crore).

.
A very critical section in my view. Not only can it take a lot of load off the hosur-attibelle-nice road section, it takes load off nice road and also potentially load off a lot of the smaller roads like Hosur-Bagalur, Attibelle/chandapura - Sarjapur - varthur-hoskote routes and even the KR Puram - Hebbal ORR which sees heavy truck traffic at night.

Looking forward to this stretch opening.

And in addition to helping truckers, it helps beleaguered people in Hoskote or Whitefield or parts of North-East Bengaluru, like me who struggle to get to any highway (barring the Tirupati one ). It takes us 2 hours to get to Krishnagiri, 2.5 hours to Nelamangala, 2 hours to get to Mysore road nice entry(this won't change for now I suppose), 2 hours to Kanakapura road Nice entry. This will significantly ease our ingress to Krishnagiri, Hassan, Durga and Chikballapur.

I see a lot of people taking this despite it be a longer stretch going forward, not just truckers.

It is also going to ease traffic significantly for people living near Peenya, Yeshwantpur, BEL, Mathikere etc as most of this will exit at Nelamangala/Dobbespet : and realizing the original benefits of this project.

As of today it would solve North-East-South side problems. But the big one still remains. And if you ask me, thats the most critical one viz. traffic on Nice road.

Unless trucks dont have alternative to reach Dobbaspet from Hosur side, traffic on the Hosur to E-City will wont go down. Hence urgency to quickly build the Hosur-Dobbaspet section.

Of course that does not mean Hosur-Hoskote is less critical!

This part is true. It helps residents get access to the highways faster.
