Last time I started from Guruvayoor at early morning, and was near Palakkad at breakfast time. Could not find any decent hotel on the highway and had to go into the Palakkad town. Finally found Hotel Aryas near the railway gate.

During peak hours, going into these towns do not make much sense.
Indian coffe house in there in Mannuthy and Pattikad. One in Mannuthy has got a different ambience than the typical Indian coffe houses with small cottages and amble parking. Food is tasty like any other Indian coffe house in both the places. You have some decent places in Vadakkenchery

In Salem, around the main circle there are quite a few hotels, I have tried the pure Vegetarian one. It was okayish. After this the only option would be A2B in Dharmapuri.

Bobby, you must have had long back. I recently had it on my Mannarkad - Nilambur trip and had pathetic experience (bad food and no hygiene at all). I was a true fan of ICH since childhood, but now the perception is changing due to bad experiences. No doubt they still makes the best coffee around!

Had breakfast in the Pattikad one last w/e on the way back from Kerala, was very crowded food was fine, agree to you completely on hygiene. It is a pitty that ICH quality is coming down, like you I too is a big fan of their cutlets, various omlets etc etc...

Re: Hotels enroute Cochin-Bangalore

I am looking for accommodation for a night ( from 10 PM to 5:00 AM) between Coimbatore and Salem on 24th. Checked the Chennis Hotel Perundurai but they are full. Any other similar options?

Thanks.

Unfortunately no.Your next best option would be to stay in Salem.(GRT is 3k a night for Double). If you go into Salem then there is Cenneys. Then there is Salem Castle iirc has been renovated after Pride Hotels took over.

If you are prepared to take a 15km detour into Erode from NH47(Take the left at Perundurai and go to Erode),then you have Le Jardin & Oxford both next to each other and owned by the same group.

Indian Hotels, Budget Hotels, Hotels in South India, Hotels in Tamil nadu, Hotels in Erode, Multi cuisine Restaurants, Luxurious comforts, Jardin, Punjabi Dhaba, Hotels in India - Hotel Lejardin, Erode, India.

Thanks Ranjit for the inputs but staying in Salem does not make sense as I will save only 2.5 hours. My plan is to reach Vaikom on 25th May as early as possible and the other options in Erode are little over my budget for a night (Chennis was ideal). Looks like I will have to start at around 4:00 AM on 25th May and reach Vaikom by 2:30 PM.

Do you want to try Pollachi? Early morning you can start on the Vadakkachhery or the Palakakd route.

Hotel Nivetha's Inn - Pollachi
Sakthi Hotels - Pollachi, Tamilnadu, India.

If I start at 4:30 PM from Bangalore (Brookefields) what time can I expect to reach Pollachi and if I start from Pollachi at 5:00 AM, what time can I expect to reach Vaikom? Also I am not familiar with this route. Hence not sure whether this will help me save time. My aim is to reach Vaikom by 11:00 AM. If this is not possible, I will start on 25th. I am exploring this option since I have to drive back on 27th (I don't have issues but passenger have ).

Pollachi is about 400km and if you start buy 4:30AM, you should able to cover in about 6-7 hours.
The roads very good even after you get out of 4 lane at Perundurai.

Bangalore-Salem-Perundurai-Kengeyam-Palldam-Pollachi

Say 3 hours to Salem, 1 hour to Perundurai 1 hour to Palladam and and 1 to Pollachi.

Pollachi to Vaikom is 200km. So if you start by 5, you should be able to cover. You catch the GQ at Vadakencherry.
But I was told there was a bridge on this SH near Pollachi which was down and hence traffic was diverted to Palakkad.
This we can confirm Even if you have to go via Palakakd the distance is the same.

Coimbatore seems to be closer than Pollachi and I am familiar with the route. Are there any hotels in Coimbatore close to NH 47? Will I be able to reach Coimbatore by 10:00 PM. If I start at 4:30 PM from Bangalore, I will be able to reach Salem only by 8:00 PM due to evening traffic.

Salem-CBE Airport is 3hrs try what you may. There are no hotels on the bypass. If you divert to the CBE Airport, there are hotels there.Next day morning you can come back to the L&T bypass and take the road to Palakkad.

Sabari's Nest: Coimbatore Luxury Hotels in Tamilnadu , India

Apart from this there are a couple of other hotels near the airport.

Any updates on the current status of this bridge construction ? I have a drive this Friday to Cochin and hence was looking for an update on this route.
