Here is the location of Ootupura.

New flyover has come in front of it and you have to take service road to access Ootupura now a days.

Re: Hotels enroute Cochin-Bangalore

I am planning to start around 5 from cochin, and was wondering which will be a good place for breakfast. Last time I couldn't find any restaurants open for breakfast on the highway and had to come all the way till Hotel Malabar near Walayar !!

Are there any other recommendations?

If a Vegetarian breakfast is OK for you, the Lakshmi bhavan (I think that's the name) at Vadakkencheri is quite decent. (Comes on the left hand side about 2 kms after you pass hotel Diana - a few meters after the turn off towards Nenmara). With a 5 AM start, you should be there by 7/7:30 and I think it should be open by then

There is Hotel Moochikunnan heights at Vadakkanchery before the 4 LANE road starts enroute bangalore.
Though it looks Hi fi from outside, their restaurant is very good for breakfast and prices are reasonable. Also toilets are clean

Thanks AshiqueS we did end up going there, we reached there around 8:30, and was surprised to see most of the items like appam were over. Finally had some masala dosa which was the only thing available, but a clean and neat place nevertheless, in this section.

Re: Hotels enroute Cochin-Bangalore

I am riding from Ooty to Bangalore with a few friends next week taking the Mettupallayam, Avinashi, NH47 route. Leaving early so looking for a breakfast and fuelling place around Erode bypass (around Bhavani) on the highway itself. Something on the lines of the HP pump and A2B complex after Thoppur Ghat so we can fill stomachs and tanks saving time.

Sankari bypass has a Saravana Bhavan. You can use that. Its about 25-30km further up.

This would be stretching our fuel limits. Anything closer to Avinashi?

There is Ananda Bhavan just after Avinashi bypass. You can break your journey there. Perundurai bypass has an A2B now I think.

As Ampere mentioned, Anandha Bhavan is an option but does not have an attached fuel station so you'd need to stop for fuel elsewhere, but there are quite a few options on both sides of the 4 lane.

Yup this A2B suits us nicely, we'll fuel up at Avinashi

Re: Hotels enroute Cochin-Bangalore

Came across this Speciality Restaurant called "UBM Namma Veetu Saapaadu" in a WhatsApp Group. This place is located near Perundurai, about 4 kms from the NH47 on Perundurai-Kunnathur SH 196. Some interesting facts about this place.
  • Strictly for non-vegetarians only.
  • Opens only for lunch from 12.30 to 3.30 pm
  • Lunch needs to be booked by 11 am.
  • Rice is served as a side dish.
  • Meal costs Rs 500.

Seems to be a good option to try if you are heading to a nearby place and a bed is waiting for you to take a nap.

Re: Hotels enroute Cochin-Bangalore

Planning a bike ride from Chennai to Cochin later this year. I want to arrive at Kochi relatively refreshed and in the afternoon, so I am planning to stop over for the night at a hotel near the highway somewhere around Coimbatore\Palakkad. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap, clean and safe accommodations? Not looking for anything fancy or upmarket. Alright taking a detour of a couple of kilometers from the main highway if required.

Rithans at karumathampatti(Google for info ,also some other threads have discussed this place)(approximately 6kms before the L&T toll)should serve your purpose, else the A2B at perundurai(80kms from Salem) has rooms and so does the A2B just after Salem. The saravana bhavan at vaigundam(approximately an hour from Salem towards cbe) too has good rooms. After walayar there is nothing of any worthy mention unless you want to go into palakkad town which has many options

KR residency, Opposite to KMCH hospital in Avinashi road is recommended.
You will have to take a right turn just before L&T road and travel towards Coimbatore airport( 3kms ).
Neat hotel with parking facility. Room tariff Rs3000
