Athirapally waterfalls is a must see destination in Kerala, but the pics posted above are not genuine. The below pics show how it looks like in real.

My-Kerala.Com: Athirapally Waterfalls

You don't know you did a big favor for me. My home town is close to this place & I never knew the beauty of this & hence never paid attention to visit this place. Trust me, I'm going to include this in our next visit.

@MX6 - This will be our additional route on our Kollur trip

Those pics are not that of Athirapally as mentioned by Harish. Here are two of my TL's done during two different seasons. The best time to visit Athirapally would be during the period August - September when the monsoon is very active and the dam upstream has reached its capacity.

No doubts though its a fabulous place to visit, but personally I love the way the water glides at Vaazchal which is slightly further upstream of Athirapally.

Great pics. Never knew anything like this existed in India. Everyday I am surprised to know that there is so much to see in India itself. Thanks Ashish for sharing.

@ MX6 : That was a good work to quote the song. Good knowledge.

@ Mods : IMO this thread is appropriate for the travelogue section.

@aargee. You better take precautions. Heard it's raining like never before in those parts of the globe. When are you leaving on your trip?

Alas, my Aug 19th Jog falls - Sringeri - Udupi trip is now cancelled. I'll postpone it to Oct.

The non-fake pictures of the fall are good, but it's ridiculous comparing it to Niagara. Niagara is probably one the most stunning places in the world, especially when seen from the Canadian side rather than the New York side.

@MX6 - My trip is getting postponed too; I've to see 3 things - office leave, children & car. First it was car, by the time I got the car serviced, daughter fell sick, now when daughter is recovered, its office leave now

Rains are nothing new to us MX6, being one from God's own country, w'e'll manage anywhere in KL.

@Carboy - Right, we'll not call Indian Niagra to spoil Athirapally's beauty. We'll still call it Athirapally falls; nothing beats the real natural beauty especially even if someone beautifies with lights.

When I saw these falls, did not realize they can actually carry so much volume. Wow!

Aargee if you take Munnar to your hometown, you can see many falls on the way. (Including Athirapally).
Take GVR on the way back from home town.

I'll be going via Wadakkanchery-Thrissur-Chalakkudy route to MVPA; On the way, take diversion from Chalakkudy to Athirapally.

Niagara falls isn't about the lights. FWIW, I only saw Niagara in the daytime (from both the New York side & Canadian side), so no lights there. Niagara is a natural marvel which stuns you.

Stuff like the "Maid of the Mist", Horsheshoe falls portal etc enhance your experience of the falls, the natural beauty itself more than enough.

The waterfall pics shown are not of Athirampalli, this is a wrong mail which got forwarded by one of the gmail forum. I too infact received one and shortly received another mail stating they have circulated wrong info.

@mods,

thanks for moving this thread in proper section.

I had posted the email forward as it is with pics.
I am not really aware of this place or the real/fake pics.
Pics may be fake but the intention of this thread is to draw attention to this waterfall in kerala.

I am with you guys about naming it as Indian Niagara.
I will request mods for thread name change.

@mx6,
thanks for posting that song!!

There are so many beautiful spots in India and there is no promotional activity about those spots by concerned agency.
What irritating me is that Malaysian government has developed a dirty nalah and 5 acres of adjacent land into beautiful bird park and promoting it at international level and we pay rs 550 there to see the peacocks imported from India and here are we even not aware about the beauty in India.

Your trip is getting delayed? Sorry to hear that. But then it's all for good. When are you planning next? I will be in Sringeri / Udupi for Navratri.
