Hi,

Please suggest the good route from Bangalore to Kollur mookambika temple.
Driving for the first time and prefer good roads for easy drive and safety.
Have read few posts suggesting via Shivamogga, but gmap is showing different route.

Gmap is showing the below route as default via NH48

Nelamangala - Tumakuru - Sira - Hiriyur - Aimangala - Chitradurga - Davanagere- Malebennur - Honnali - Nyamathi - Ayanur - Ripponpet - Hosanagar - Nagara - Nittur - Kollur

Is this route fine?

I visited Kollur Mookambila Temple last week. During onward journey we took Hiriyur - Hosadurga - Tarikere - Lakkavalli Road and joined Kundapura-Shimoga road after Hosanagar. Roads are in good condition except for a few kilometers near Tarikere. There were road widening and construction of new bridges happening between Nagara ,Nittur and Kollur, but they are not of any big concern. Need to plan your pit stops properly if taking this route. There are couple hotels before Hiriyur and there is one hotel "Aramane Vaibhava" near Tarikere. Did not find any other good restaurants during the journey. We started from Hosur Road at around 6:15 AM and reached Kollur at 1:45 PM.

For return trip , we took Nittur-Nagara-Hosanagara-Ripponpet-Ayanur-Shivamogga (mainly for refreshments) - Chitradurga - Tumkur-Bangalore. Minor patch work needs to be done between Nagara and Hosanagara , rest of the sections were good.

Among the routes mentioned from BLR to Kollur, is there any route that one can take which minimises the ghat section or hairpin bends?
Traveling with an infant and want to avoid motion sickness. Appreciate the help.

I'm planning to visit Kollur Mookambika on 15th June. Planning to start by 5 am. Any suggested route considering two 70+ sr citizen ladies? If there's a chance to visit any other spots on the route (like Sringeri), please suggest. Wanted to check the state of our roads as it's raining these days.

I would suggest: Shimoga-Thirtahalli-Agumbe-Someshwar-Haladi-Ampar-Vandse.

The other option is :

Hassan-Chikkamaguur-Aldur-Balehonnur-Koppa-Agumbe-Someshwar-Ampar-Vandse

Going first to Sringeri and staying overnight is a good idea. I dont know if the rains have begun. Can't comment on that.

Hi Ampere, I am driving to Kollur on Saturday and saw the route recommended by you.



This seems to be round about route compared to

Shimoga -> Ayanur -> Ripponpet -> Hosanagar - > Kollur

Any specific reason why you recommended through Thirthahalli rather than the Ripponpet route? Are the roads in this route very bad?

You are right. If you have to go via Agumbe, then the best option is via Chikkamagulur/Aldur and not Thirthahalli. The best route via Shimoga is the route via Ayr/ Ripponpet. But then you enter Kollur from the other side. Thats all.

Many usually dont prefer their Hosanagara/Nagodi option.

Thank you Ampere for your tip. We finished our Kollur-Udupi - Dharmasthala and Kukke trip over the last three days and was pleasantly surprised to see the road conditions so good throughout. Rough patches here and there are not a big concern and the missing part in our entire trip was RAIN and that too when the western part of India is supposed to be so wet.

Onward we took the below route.
Bangalore - Chitradurga - Channagiri - Shimoga - Ayyanur - Ripponpet - Hosanagara - Kollur.
Good roads throughout. Ghat section was concretized and good. Minor work h was happening between Hosanagara and Nagara. But only for a short distance though. Started at home at exactly 6AM and reached Kollur by 2.30PM. Had food and then went for darshan at 3.15PM.

The bummer we had during this trip was the crowd at Dharmasthala on Sunday afternoon. The queue even for the Rs.200 ticket started far away from the temple premises and not to mention the serpentine gated portions. Looking at the crowd, my wife and kids were asking me to skip the temple this time. But I did not wanted to miss after having driven so long and insisted on joining the queue. we had to endure 4 hours of no food and suffocation before we managed the darshan.

We were told that the sudden crowd was because of chief minister's announcement that women can travel for free in all government buses and most people have converged to Dharmasthala and Kukke over the first weekend of announcement. I am not sure if that was the actual reason, but we were surprised to find such a huge crowd on a normal day without any festivities attached to it.

Has anyone travelled to Kollur recently. Planning to take parents there after a long time this coming weekend and pleasantly suprised to see the route discussion here. Looking for a route with good road conditions and safe for a family to travel.

By default, Google is showing Bangalore - Tumkur - Sira - Hiriyur - Chitradurga - Shimoga - Ayanur - Ripponpet - Hosanagara - Kollur route.

Any other better alternatives?

Updating after last weekend Bangalore - Kollur and return trip.

We took the same above route (Bangalore - Tumkur - Sira - Hiriyur - Chitradurga - Shimoga - Ayanur - Ripponpet - Hosanagara - Kollur) and almost throughout it was decent, except some sections between Hosanagara and Kollur due to road work in progress and some forest road sections near kollur.

Started from Whitefield on Saturday 29-Oct-2023 around 4:45 AM and we reached Kollur temple at 2 PM, taking close to 9 hours including breaks. Had breakfast at Hotel Shree Ratnam (before Dobbaspet) around 645 AM, and they were already open and breakfast was also excellent. After that we stopped at Ayanur for some Tea/Coffee from a bakery and resumed our trip. Had lunch after reaching Kollur accommodation.

Return we started on Sunday 30-Oct-2023 around 1:30 PM from Kollur and we reached Bangalore Whitefield at 12:30 night. Return journey saw more traffic, Road blocks and diversions from road work, and our food/refresh breaks taking more time due to rush.

I am planning a trip to vist Kollur Mookambika temple from Bangalore. While doing this, we would also like to visit Dharmasthala, Kukkee and if possible Horanadu Annaporneshwari temple too.

I am confused as to how should I plan to cover these in about 4 days and which is the best route to opt for. Kindly suggest . Thanks!

I did the same route last month. You could also visit Halebeedu or Belur temple and Sringeri on the way.

Route 1:

Day1 - Bangalore- Halebeedu or Belur Temple (if you are interested )-Annaporneshwari temple( stay at Horanadu)

Day 2- Horanadu-Sringeri Temple-Kollur (stay at Kollur). You can visit Mookabika Temple either in the evening and the next day morning.

Day 3 - Kollur - Dharmasthala - reach Kukke by evening(stay at Kukke)

Day 4- Visit Shri Subrahmanya Temple in the morning and leave for Bangalore
