great.
This depends of course on what car you are using and what speeds you are accustomed to drive at and whether you are with family or by yourself / with friends.
Here are some pointers:
Madras - SriPerumbudur-Vellore-Krishnagiri-Hosur-Bangalore - 340Kms - say 5 hours.
Bangalore - take the ramp which is visible on your left after you pass Electronics City, ascend the ramp and head out on the NICE Road towards Mysore - this way you will avoid traffic in the city of Bangalore unless of course you intend to stay overnight here and refresh yourself before heading out the next morning.
Bangalore - Maddur - Mandya - Sri Rangapatnam- Mysore - 120 odd kms 2.5 hours.
Before you reach Mysore and after you cross the turn off to Sri Rangapatnam you will reach a small turnoff which helps you to bypass Mysore and head towards Coorg via Hunsur, Periyapatna etc. Take this road.

From this point he distance to Nagarhole Sanctuary is about 90 odd Km - say another 2 hours. The roads are pretty good but dont expect to do the same speeds as you can between Madras-Bangalore and Bangalore-Mysore. Average Speed will come down a bit on account of rural areas you will be passing through. The sanctuary is well marked and quite easy to get to.

Check this link to see more info on Nagarhole

I would suggest please dont drink and smoke while visiting there because it is prohibited within the sanctuary limits.
You can get to see some interesting wildlife if you hop on to one of their regular safari tours either by jeep or by elephant.

I think if you like Photography you will get plenty of great opportunities there. and of course if you like Nature, you will see the real wild beauty of it when you visit.
Now being just after monsoon the whole place will be nice and green but as we move through November/December etc it will become progressively drier and drier. Its a good time to go now.

Cheers

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the info shankar

It will be a trip organised by my office and we are planning to take a bus (charted).

We will start by evening 6 or 7 and plan to reach by early morning @ nagarhole.so it will be a direct route to nagarhole without stop at banglore.

Which route will you suggest.

The trip should take you around 11hours of drive time with stops. There is also an option of going via Krishnagiri-Kaveripattanam-Kanakpura-Mysore-Nagarhole.The only advantage being you wouldnt have to touch Blore and probably a saving of around 80-100kms.Though I wouldnt know the current conditions of the road.Just an option for you to keep in mind thats all.

To stay:Kabini River Lodge & The Cicada Kabini which is run by the Cafe Coffee Day group are the two good & popular ones.On the expensive side both.

cool. enjoy.
Since it is a chartered bus it will take you longer most definitely. - say 6 - 7 hours Madras - Bangalore and another 5 - 6 hours Bangalore - Nagarhole.
However, you can use the same route I ve suggested, to get you there in reasonable time frame.

@ Joshguy. There are two places which are part of the Nagarhole sanctuary though they are quite some distance away. The first one is the Nagarhole reception centre which is close to Kutta in Coorg district. The second one is the Kabini backwaters which is also part of the Nagarhole sanctuary. It would help if you can clarify which part of Nagarhole are you guys planning to visit. Nevertheless am giving you both the routes.

Route 1 - Chennai - Krishnagiri - Hosur - Bangalore - Maddur - Mandya - Srirangapatna (take a detour on the right hand side after Srirangapatna which would lead you directly to the Hunsur road, you would find boards marked like Orange county etc.) Hunsur, Nagarhole. Please note that the road from the Nagarhole park entrance upto Reception centre is closed between 6PM and 6 AM. You could either stay at Jungle Inn or Kings country which is just before the park entrance or stay at any of the homestays in Kutta which is about 7 kms from the Nagarhole reception centre. You could visit Iruppu falls near Kutta along with your visits to forest through the Forest Department Vans available in the mornings (6.30 AM to 9.30 AM) and evenings (4 PM to 6 PM). The distance from Chennai should be about 560 kms.

Route 2 - Chennai - Krishnagiri - Hosur - Bangalore - Mysore - HDKote - Kabini. Here the only options to stay are Cicada resorts and the Jungle Lodges both of which have their own schedule of activities in terms of going into the forest etc. Beware that the roads inside the forest are not in great shape. The distance from Chennai should be about 575 kms.

Since you are taking a chartered bus I would assume that you would take nothing less than 12 hours to reach either of the places. Let me know in case you require further details. Also it would be better to go through Bangalore than attempt NICE road in the night as it involved taking a diversion near Bannerghatta road which might be confusing in the dark

In case in the night you miss the detour at Srirangapatna, on hitting Mysore, the first signal will be the ring road signal. You can take the Mysore ring road, where the detour for Hunsur road is clearly marked. This road since being a ring road is also very good.

Hi Bhpians,

We are planning to start on May 13th evening (friday)or 14th early morning ,stay that night in nagarhole , next day (sunday) start to coimbatore (basically to attend a marriage that evening) and then return to chennai on monday by afternoon so that i can cast my vote for the elections.

How does this plan sound , is this going to be too tiring , i am not used to these roads except coimbatore > chennai and Chennai >Bangalore.

Do give me your suggestions .
