More importantly, is it advisable to do it at all now, considering the rains and the bad roads?
I think its 100-110 from Pollachi and not from Valparai. (Its 60 from Valparai. I remember seeing a milestone near Valparai town.

As Pradeep said, its easily 2-3 hours drive through the forest. If you want to do it, you can
be back by evening. I think on the way back you can take a detour (bypassing Valprai town) and visit Sholayar as well.
Do note Valley View is not in Valparai but before Valparai.

We skipped Athirapally, because in April I was not expecting any water.
The other reason: One evening was spent watching Dhoni hit the winning six to get the world cup!

Sorry for going off-topic. @ampere where were you staying in Valparai on April 1? I was in Villa Fair for the WC finals and we had rented speakers, LCD projectors and a genset to watch the match. I did not spot you, just wanted to know if you spotted a TN66 registered Linea.

thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Valley view is at the 28th hairpin bend from Pollachi if I'm not mistaken; Valparai is after the 40th bend I think. What are the exact milestones to look out for, to reach Valley view? The owner said she would send out a mail with all the directions but would love to get the first hand info from a BHPian who has visited. There's another TL here from a BHPian who visited indraprastha (he has put up full directions in his TL), but it seems the bungalows v.view and indraprastha are no way adjacent. They are a few kms apart or something

Do note that they have multiple entrances. After you hit the 28th hairpin, you should see the Waterfall estate Board (I think its the post office board). Go a bit further and on your left.
you will see a board and entrance to the corporate office and tea factory. You should take that road inside. Its about a km from main road.

Best would be to call Rasa after you hit Pollachi.
She was indeed very helpful and helped me in all possible ways.

Thanks ampere. I'll keep this noted. sorry for noticing your reply late.
By the way, any good restaurants near Pollachi where we can stop for lunch? Preferably should be on the highway so that we can avoid getting into the main town traffic.

I found two of them (on the net. Have not been to either)

1. Nivethas Inn : Hotel Nivetha's Inn - Pollachi
2. Sri Shakthi Resorts : Sakthi Hotels - Pollachi, Tamilnadu, India.

But they look decent with good car parking.

Guys

Planning a trip with family and friends this year end to Valparai and Top Slip

We are planning to go to Coimbatore by train and then take a tempo traveller from there. The train arrives by around 2pm in the noon. Is it a good idea to travel straight to Valparai from Coimbatore.
I heard the entry to top slip is regulated . Are there any regulations for Valparai as well ??

Thanks
Prasanna

It would be a total of 100km from CBE.

- 40km to Pollachi
- 40km from Pollachi to Aliyar
- 20 to Valparai (Ghat road)

The only issue is that the ghat road is very narrow (but its a good road)
If you arrive by 2PM (Kovai?), I hope train is on time and you just hop on to a tempo traveler.

Account for about 2-3 hours for a drive to the base at Aliyar (including getting out of CBE and bypassing Pollachi) and another 1 hour max for the ghats.

Hi,

I would suggest you to look for a stay in parambikulam than top slip or valparai.

There is an excellent package there and if I am right it is around 1k per person. Check Kerala tourism web page for more details

Aravind

I did see the Kerala tourism website, got info from seniors like Lalu who have done it already. The only problem is that the last vehicle allowed is at 4pm. That might be a problem to slot my vehicle at the CP.
I could see that there a couple of resorts around sethumadai. Is it a good idea to stay there.
Thanks !

Hi,

With regards to sethumadai , i did remember seeing one. But it is on the foot hills of Valparai and you should be ready to drive up and visit places. Instead i would advice you to plan accordingly on your travel and reach the place before 4 PM and get in those resorts run by Kerala tourism.

After all, going all the way till valparai and not staying there to experience it would be tough.

@Prasanna, the Valparai check post is very in-consistent in allowing entry. Normally, after 6pm you will be denied entry. Private cars will not be a problem, but tourist vehicles are sure to be denied after 6pm. Do check with place where you have booked your accommodation. They will let you know on the "current" check-post activities.

Amp, it should be the other way around.
