Apart from crazy price variations for the same flights on each website, the confusing part is both Indigo and Turkish Airlines have listed both the flights as options to make one think that the Turkish one would be purely Turkish. But then skyscanner tells me that the Turkish one is also 'operated by Indigo'!

Re: The Air Travel & Airports Discussion Thread

Which airline is most forthcoming with free class upgrades? I am a fairly routine flyer on IAH-BOM route. I prefer Emirates purely for A380 and the occasional lay-flat business experience in economy .
However I have read/seen them not to upgrade pax even when seats are empty. On contrast I have had free upgrades on Qatar/BA a few times.
Any other airliner worth trying?

Re: Vistara: Tata's new commercial airline

With the number of airlines dwindling (Just 4 with one struggling), government should start looking into more liberal policies.

Air Travel should be brought down to the same level as any other mode of transport.
  1. Mobile boarding pass, not sure why India mandates printed boarding pass.
  2. Luggage restrictions, leave it unto the airline to decide the weight. However, the luggage sizes have to be standardised. Incentivises people to carry less luggage.
  3. More self check-in and self bag drops.
  4. e-Gates for immigration, they could massively improve upon in this area.
  5. Allow more airports, Hosur and Bangalore are fighting for a new airport along state lines, instead they can approve two airports for such a large urban agglomeration. In the future, three airports can comfortably handle the passenger volume.
  6. With gold duty reduced, they could increase the Alcohol Volume allowed to 5 or 10 litres. Reduces the amount of time spent on Customs check.
  7. Bring ATF into GST.
  8. Allow relatives inside the airport to help with check-in like other airports around the world. A simple Aadhar link of Blood relations and scan them at the entry and track until their exit.

If the argument is job losses and digital divide.
  • Then Jobs lost in airport can be compensated by the growth of the economy with more airports and increased travel convenience (Remember, a country which moves its population efficiently wins)
  • For Digital divide, make YouTube videos and refer point number 8 (Example below).
People travelling alone for the first time, either son or daughter or partner or any other relatives can enter the airport, finish check-in, help with self bag drop and say good-bye near security and then they can exit the airport. All this tracked digitally so that no one without a ticket stays inside the airport.

Please download DigiYatra the next time you travel to/in India.

It’s a very nice initiative by the govt and is currently implemented across all the major airports in India.

DigiYatra will help you with a seamless checkin to boarding process, with e-boarding pass.
The only downside could be the functionality of the system at the airports

I assume Digiyatra requires an Aadhar card which means most foreigners won’t be able to use this system.

Re: The Air Travel & Airports Discussion Thread

Hi guys, my younger daughter suffered a hand fracture this past Friday. She currently has a cast that's heavy and restrictive enough to make it uncomfortable for her to walk around with it. We are due to take an international flight two days from now. (Our travel is pending doctor's approval. We would get clarity tomorrow).

In the mean time, I wanted to ask the following:

1) How do I pre-book wheel chair assistance for our daughter? Should the request be made to the airline or the airport?

2) I have arranged for a kid's wheel chair, can it be transported by the airliner?

3) Do I need to carry some sort of proof from the doctor that my daughter is fit to travel?

Re: The Air Travel & Airports Discussion Thread

I am not sure if this topic was discussed before in TeamBHP or it's a suitable thread to post this topic. If the topic has to be moved to a right thread, admins please move it.

Today I happened to see Vendiman branded Vending Machine at Mumbai airport T2. And it is functional. I am a frequent domestic flyer, untill today, i have not seen any snacks and beverages in airports at MRP, not even a water bottle. McDonald's prices are still reasonable though. At some places prices are exorbitant. One can get a beverage as cheap as Rs.20 from Vendiman automated vending machine. It's a good move. I wish every airport much have these machines.

1: Request the airline - there is normally some option when you update your reservation online. Some airlines aborad might charge

2: It might be allowed check the baggage allowance terms and conditions

3: No but if she has pins/metal screws reinforcements in her hand, you will need a medical certificate.

Re: The Air Travel & Airports Discussion Thread

Over the past few months, I have had to travel to Delhi and back on a few occasions.

It was always Air India (Timings) and T3 terminal was a joy to be in. Would inevitably end up spending quite a few hours before departure.

Last week, took an Indigo flight and it was from T2. Oh my god, if ever there was an aiport terminal that needed to expand, this was it! It was bursting at it's seams.

Hardly any place to sit vis a vis the crowd, small food court area, a lounge which had serpentine queues...and boarding from the -1 level was chaotic to say the least.

And icing on the cake? Indigo announces boarding, mad rush to stand in queue before the gate. We wait in queue (no zone wise boarding) for near on 20minutes, then they say flight is delayed by 1hr!

Re: The Air Travel & Airports Discussion Thread

We are transiting through Qatar while traveling to Kenya and got a 12 hours break. We would like to do a city tour if the transit visa process is simple and not too expensive. All of us are Indian citizens, few of us are having valid US visa, but not all. It will be very helpful if someone can share recent updates on the Qatar transit visa, it is not very clear in the websites and Qatar airways customer care could not help.

Navi Mumbai International Airport saw the successful landing of an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-295 aircraft on its South runway, marking a key step in its development. The airport, being built by the Adani Group, is expected to be operational by early 2025, with construction having started in August 2021.

The landing of the IAF aircraft provided an opportunity for engineers and aviation authorities to assess the runway, taxiways, and air traffic control systems as the airport nears completion.

Once operational, the airport will handle both domestic and international flights. It will feature a 3,700-meter runway, modern terminals, and advanced air traffic control systems. Terminal 1 is expected to handle 20 million passengers annually, with the airport eventually accommodating up to 90 million passengers and 800,000 tons of cargo each year. The project is set to improve connectivity and create new commercial opportunities for the Navi Mumbai region.
