In UK transferring from one airport to another requires a visa.
Once you leave airside, you need a visitor visa, not just a transit visa.

As far as UK is concerned, unless you have a valid USA visa, you need a transit visa even if you have both flights at Heathrow and don't leave airside.

I had booked Lufthansa flight mumbai-frankfurt-st louis and return on single PNR.
Do you mean to say that transit visa is not required if one has valid us visa ?
Thank you in adv to Desi folks helping out my daughter there .
All went smooth as expected with my daughter's travel to USA.

German transit visa is required for Indian passport holders with following exemptions:
a) Indian nationals holding a valid visa or residence permit from a member state of the Schengen area or Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Ireland, Canada, Japan, USA (except for holders of an US “Advanced Parole Document”)
b) Indian nationals holding a valid residence permit for Andorra, Monaco or San Marino
c) Diplomatic passport holders generally do not require an airport transit visa.
D) If they hold a used valid or expired visa issued by the US or other countries listed in [a] and are returning from the visa issuing country and traveling to a non-Schengen Member State within 24 hours after the visa expired. [ Visa must me valid while departing from visa issuing country]

Re: The Air Travel & Airports Discussion Thread

Are there any Turkish Airlines flights to Istanbul which operate from India all by themselves and not with Indigo? I was looking at Mumbai-Istanbul sector and cannot understand the options coming up on the Indigo website, Turkish Airline website and skyscanner. I want to avoid dealing with Indigo if possible.

Apart from crazy price variations for the same flights on each website, the confusing part is both Indigo and Turkish Airlines have listed both the flights as options to make one think that the Turkish one would be purely Turkish. But then skyscanner tells me that the Turkish one is also 'operated by Indigo'!

Indigo operates but I have heard Business class is served by crew of Turkish Airlines. Also, the planes are wide bodied. Not sure if Indigo owns or have taken on lease from Turkish or someone else.

TK and 6E have a code-share agreement. Both of them can sell eachother's tickets by placing their individual flight codes on other's flights.

TK operates a B773 each from DEL/BOM, and so does 6E. TK's flights are owned, operated and managed by TK themselves.
However, 6E has wet-leased the wide-bodies from TK, and are using it for crew acclimatization and gaining other operational insights before they induct their own A350s.

I don't think there are 2 different flights. Only One flight operated by Indigo, planes must be from Turkish.

Take a look at this video for more details on the Indigo-TK 777 flight.

Lot of differences if you book via TK vs Indigo.

There are 2 separate flights out of BOM, within a gap of 10 mins - operated by both, 6E and TK.

No, have a look here. Though these are shown differently but it has to be one only. Funnily, (not surprisingly though) Turkish business is expensive over Indigo.

Nope sir, did a quick search on 6E and TK websites. There are 2 separate flights, marked with individual flt ID

Did some digging on flightaware as well. Have a look here -

There are 2 separate flights with separate flight paths from BOM to ISB - each operated by TK and 6E.

Wondering if its true and also how to be sure of it coz in the video shared by blackwasp, the guy is saying there were TK passengers on-board as well who were getting better service but the Indigo flight attendants were struggling to identify them. Also, does it make sense to fly two large aircrafts daily almost at the same time to the same destination?

Isn't it like cheating the passengers who would be booking TK by paying higher prices to avoid Indigo but eventually end up in an Indigo flight?

^^
Two different flights, as picked up by Jigar

p.s. - probably the TK passengers on the Indigo flight would be the passengers who book the Indigo option from Turkish Airlines website directly

Most pax on the TK flight from BOM/DEL will be transit pax, with their final destination being on the onward connections beyond Istanbul onto the vast global network that TK offers.

The above would be true even for 6E, as its deep code-share with TK will help feed pax traffic from 6E’s strong domestic network, feeding into its DEL/BOM hubs onward into Istanbul.
However, the primary objective for 6E to operate wide-bodies will be crew familiarisation and learning the tricks of multi-class operations.

When my parents had been on a holiday to Southern Europe, their first stop was Turkey in the BOM-ISB 6E wide body.
My dad, being a travel enthusiast that he is, told me while the TK flight was close to at 85% occupancy level, the 6E flight was not even 50%.

In flight crew in 6E was Turkish, complying with the wet-lease operational requirements.
