do not travel on this road. the road is lonely. you will not find single descent hotel on this route.
other options are--
1] solapur-indapur-baramati-nira-lonand-pargaon khandala-wai-panchagani-mahabaleshwar

2] solapur-tembhurni-akluj-natepute-phaltan-lonand-pargaon khandala-wai-panchagani-mahabaleshwar.

route no 1 is better than route no2.

in route no1 , indapur to mahabaleshwar is 175km. baramati to mahaby is my regular route. 20 km stretch between lonand and pargaon khandala is small road with no traffic.

Thanks Ashish, i was hoping you would give your inputs

I was told by Zen91 to take this route but he too warned me that it is the loneliest road on this planet. Since I plan to cover that route before noon and not stop anywhere, is it that bad?

Can you help with approximate distances for this route? Thanks Man !

@ Mobike - if you decide to take the Solapur - Pandarpur - Satara route you dont need to touch Panchgani to reach Mahableshwar, there is a direct route from Satara to Mahableshwar.

the distance from solapur to mahabaleshwar via indapur will be 285 km.
on this route, solapur to indapur on NH9, there will be lot of truck traffic.
if you want skip nh9 after solapur, then other option will be----

solapur-mangalvedha road-pandharpur-velapur-phaltan-lonand-pargaon khandala-wai-mahabaleshwar.

on this route, pandharpur to lonand is wide state highway. it is as wide as NH9.
but i will recommend indapur route.

Ok, Via Satara it is about 270kms from Solapur and via Indapur its 285.

I am tilting towards the Indapur route, hope it is straight on NH9 and i dont have to take any detours/exits from the main highway route?

solapur to indapur is NH9,
indapur-baramati-nira-lonand is state highway[ good condition],
lonand to pargaon khandala 20 km road is district road,
pargaon khandala to surul is NH4,
Surul-wai-mahabaleshwar is state highway.

I felt driving between Solapur and Pune outskirts was a real pain, owing to scores of trucks that drive in herds of 5 or 6. I'd avoid that route if I had a chance.

Anyway, it is your call, Avi.

True, but I forgot to mention that the most painful part was from Mohol to Indapur.

Avi Bhai, after Sholapur via Mudhol,Timburni and beyond , you would encounter a lot of truck traffic and it is just the opposit of Pandarpur to Satara..No traffic

As Brajesh said, branch off left at Mohol towards Pandharpur---will surely save you a big headache.

Venu, as you can see from Ashish's feedback. Pandarpur to Satara is an extremely lonely 140kms stretch wherein you wont find a single soul on the road.

This was also confirmed by Zen91. Hence, Solapur to Indapur route.

Did this trip on May 15th weekend, Routes taken :-

HYDERABAD-MAHABALESHWAR
Hyderabad-Zaheerabad-Humnabad-Umerga-Solapur-Mohol-Shetfal-Indapur-Baramati-Nira-Lonand-Khandala-Wai-Panchgani-Mahabaleswar : 590kms

Hyderabad to Solapur is an absolute breeze. Not a single speedbreaker till the bypass, so close your eyes and step on the gas.

Solapur to Indapur is infested with trucks and it took me almost 3 hours to cover 110kms.

Indapur to Baramati, SH but very good roads and beautiful scenary around.

Baramati to Nira, is a treat to the eyes. Greenery, Greenery, Greenry

Lonand to Khandala, for 15kms i had tears in my eyes, too narrow road and many a times was forced to get down the road. But scenery compensated

Ghat section on this stretch is a MUST DRIVE

Wai-Panchgani-MBL is superb twisty roads.

MAHABALESHWAR-HYDERABAD
Hyderabad-Medha-Satara-Pandharpur-Solapur-Umerga-Humnabad-Zaheerabad-Hyderabad : 570KMS

MBL to Satara, good twisty roads and slightly deserted.

Satara-Pandharpur route was predicted by AshishPallod and Zen 91 to be lonely. But, suprisingly, the entire stretch was not lonely at all. Passed thorugh many villages, quite a few cars and many many bikes passed.

Its just that its a small double road and you have huge dry landscape on both sides. It was actually fun to drive since covered good ground on this stretch.

Pandharpur-Solapur, Truck menace again.

Solapur-Hyderabad, a cool breeze.

I recommend whoever travelling to Mahabaleshwar from Hyd to try both routes as each has its unique aspects that you can enjoy
