| On a very short notice did Hyderabad - Mahabaleshwar - Hyderabad trip during 11-dec-09 to 14-Dec-09. Route 11-Dec-09 Hyderabad - Solapur - Mohol - Pandarpur - Satara - Mahabaleshwar 14-Dece-09 Mahabaleshwar - Panchagani - Pune - Solapur - Hyderabad Pandarpur to Satara road is ok and a pretty straight road with some rough patches here and there, but still considering other routes/distances this is better. In return journey we thought of going through some better roads and decided on Mahabaleshwar - Panchgani - Shirwal - Baramati - Indapur - Solapur - Hyderabad, but after reaching Shirwal we inquired about route to Baramati then couple of local taxi guys adviced not take that route as its in very bad condition and instead continue further till Pune and then take NH9 towards Hyderabad. So we continued on NH4 till Katraj and took right to bypass pune and touched NH9 at Hadapsar. This costed us almost 90kms extra, but still we enjoyed the road though sometimes regretted of not taking the same route which we went to Mahabaleshwar. | Distinguished - BHPian   | Thanks for this update with pictures IN. Last year in May when i visited Mahabaleswar, I did the Satara route in reverse that is while coming back from Mahabaleshwar. It looks the same. dry, parched and very few souls on that road  While going took the Mohol, Baramati route to meet maharastra road guru (Ashish Pallod) |

| Distinguished - BHPian | Visiting Mahby again  Planning to leave at 4AM on April 2nd and spend 2 nights in Mahabaleshwar and return on April 4th late in the night. Should i take the same route as before? Onward: Hyd-Solapur-Mohol-Indapur-Baramati-Shirwal-Panchagani-Mahby Return: Mahby-Satara-Pandarpur-Mohol-Solapur-Hyd Can someone outline recent road conditions on above stretch? |

this time, it will be better to take pandharpur route. solapur-nh9-indapur has lot of truck traffic these days. indapur-baramati-nira has lot of sugarcane cart traffic as there are five sugar mills in this 90 km stretch and the mills are still running due to bumper sugarcane crop. the road condition between indapur and baramati is in worst condition. two months back, i traveled on solapur-pandharpur stretch via different route. i think, i have posted the route details in some other thread, may be hyd-goa thread. not aware about condition of pandharpur-gondawale-satara route . never attempt to take pandharpur-malshiras-phalatan-lonand-wai route. do visit mapro garden and other points not covered in your previous travel to mahaby such as wilson point[ highest point in mahaby, should be visited at sunrise], babingnton point, enter mtdc resort premises and drive along the road to the end upto government rest house[ the views from this point are fantastic, you can see the fort madhu-makarand gad]. do stop at gondawale, have look at the mutt which is along the road. gondawale is on pandharpur-satara road after mhaswad and 5 km before dahiwadi. I checked Dreamland and their pricing is Rs.5K per night this being the season and i am not looking at spending that kind of money just for the hotel room as will be there only for 1.5 days max so decided to book the same old hotel that i stayed last time around. Hotel Savoy Village is charging Rs.5K for 2 nights with only breakfast. Last time around they included 3 meals for approximately the same price.  |
